  1. Gramps, I think you may have cut to the root of a problem we've been discussing on here for quite a while. I know I'm guilty of it, too.

I'd like to think it's more a problem of familiarity, rather than consciously ignoring new posters. Easier to respond to someone who you've seen face-to-face at a meetup or know outside the board from somewhere. And I do understand that some posters have more time on their hands and are more likely to post than new members. Even with all that, I'm not sure of what the solution would be.

  2. No offense, but this is kind of a weird complaint. Do all posts warrant a response?

I have to think more than half of my posts have never received a response, especially in GDTs where we're all just firing comments at a wall as the game goes along.

If you're expecting responses to all of your posts then you may need to adjust your expectations.

Certainly not, but when it becomes a pattern you start to wonder. And I've seen it with other newer posters as well. I would think existing members, especially those like you that have been around a long time,  would encourage new members by responding even sometimes if you think no response is required.

  3. I think what you’re describing here is simply a product of numbers. There are so many more people over there so it’s going to be much easier to blend in there. That said, there definitely have been people here who generally have no idea how to communicate with other people. Some are gone, some still remain. With so few people in comparison, those post stick out.

Maybe there's a lot more people over there because new members stick around. There are village idiots on every board and they are eventually called out. I personally don't feel like anyone should be treated as a "newb" on an anonymous internet board, as everyone was a "newb" at some point. And as far as communication skills, you can find fault with everyone on this board at one point or another.

  4. I'm a frequent poster, almost the most frequent in the board history. I don't see how I control content or responses. I'm missing your point, I think.

Content is controlled by whether or not you respond to a post - ignoring posters with lesser post counts easily controls a thread. I'd like to know how many posters have left this forum because their posts never got responses. Contrast that to TBD where almost all initial posts get responses.

  5. Serious question:  do you not feel welcome here?  You seem to post regularly, at least recently.  I haven't noticed any issues with your conversations, but I could've missed something.

This board just seems to give off the vibe of the good ol' boys club where a dozen or so posters control the content and responses to posts. I find just the opposite on TBD and every other forum I've been on. I'm the not the type to post in-depth analyses and long posts as I've found that most folks don't like to read them anyways. And maybe my content sucks - so be it. I've been a Sabres and Bills fan for a long time now and feel much more at ease at TBD. It is what it is.

  6. I agree that it is tough for rookies around here.  It was for me.  It does take time to get used to how it works.

    +++++

The point jw brought up was when certain posters drive the discussion with a certain narrative.  Very few posters have ever done that, IMO, and most are all gone.  GoDD and Yuri come to mind and both were banned for it.  Smell, certainly, has never done it.

PA has in the past, but he has not done so in years.  And his meddling owner narrative was pretty harmless compared to the others and it was Sabres related, which helped.  PA's trial thread was a hoot, actually.

    PA,

You know that I mean no disrespect here, right.

Sorry, I don't want to spend time learning how it "works" ... TBD is a much friendlier board. This is definitely a 1st for me ... a good ol' boys club on a discussion board.

  7. Eh I don't know, I disagree. We've had this conversation a ton too, even had threads on how to better acclimate and welcome newer posters. But the reality seems to be that unless you're around here long enough and post enough, well you're at a disadvantage. I'm not saying like my post count, or Ligers, but Aud has thousands of posts, which is more than enough. Someone with, say,  less than 1000 or so, has a harder time

Lol come on Flagg, Aud has 15k posts. I'd say that's more than enough to carry some weight

    Truth, especially in GDTs

  8. Yep. They're close to having, at worst, their 2nd choice of guys.

Make the trade up into 2 or 3. They'll still have ~4 picks in the top 100. At worst, they'll have the standard 3.

Sign Bridgewater as the insurance policy. Start filling holes w/ FA & trades of guys that don't fit the system. Use the other picks to upgrade the talent.

If Mayfield, or whoever they get at 2/3 doesn't pan out, at least they'd have Bridgewater who looked pretty good prior to nearly having his leg amputated.

And when Mayfield, or whoever they get, does pan out. They're set at the spot for 10-15 years. Now that QB's can't get touched, there's a lot more Blandas around. Not having to spend a 1st rounder on a QB for another decade+ will be HUGE.

I'm not so sure Bridgewater or Bradford is the answer given their injury history. Think I'd rather see McCarron. And I doubt they get to 2 unless the Giants get another QB in free agency or they're content trading down for Jackson perhaps.

  9. Per the Draft Value Chart, yes I know per rumors that GMs really do not use this too much,

It would take 12, 22, 54 and probably 65 to move to 2.

Pick 3 or 4 would be less

Bengals also get the Bills 5th rounder and the Bills get the Bengals 6th

If this is a precursor to moving up, they must be looking at Rosen or Mayfield. Unless they're hoping Jackson is available at #12 and they use #22 on another need. If it's Rosen, they may have to go to #2 - Mayfield, either 5 or 6 dependent on Cousins.

  10. I believe that they're gunning for Rosen over Darnold.  That seems like the Bills move.  Either way getting a young QB is the smartest thing this franchise can do in the last several years. Amazing maneuvering of the roster.

If the Vikings win the Cousins sweepstakes, I think that Darnold goes to the Browns, Rosen to the Giants, Allen to the Broncos & Mayfield to the Jets possibly leaving Rudolph and Jackson to the Bills at 21/22. Jackson might be gone as well if the Cardinals/Chargers decide on a QB in the 1st.

Move up and you might get who you want.

  11. Maybe. Probably. I'm not sure it's even about the money for most of these guys. Their sense of identity must be so closely tied to being an athlete that what comes next terrifies them. I'm not sure it's the sense of adulation or anything. How adored is an NHL player in Buffalo, NY?

I don't think it's adulation at all - IMO, it's being around the guys and the team. All of a sudden you go from really busy to not busy and there's only so much golf you can play. Not dissimilar to retiring from a corporate job after 30 years or so - except KO is only closing in on 30 and would need a plan for the next 25 years or so.

  12. My guess: They move all the way up to 2, take their guy, and sign ... McCown (the Josh one).

Not great all the way around, but you hear all the time how McCown in a consummate pro. Show the rookie the way, etc.

Doubt they go to #2 - Giants need a Manning replacement and will want a franchise QB.

  13. Sure they can pitch the same FAs we do, but the player has to want to play there.  I don't see many top FA QBs wanting to go to a team as bad and as poorly managed as the Browns.

Considering we had not made the playoffs in 17 years and had a coaching carousel going, we aren't exactly a FA's #1 choice either. Maybe now it's a little different, but cash is king.

  14. Interesting.  That would be different than a concussion then.  It sounds scary as hell however and your poor daughter is not having as much luck.

Wasn't he in the ICU because of a reaction to the medication and not just the concussion?  My guess is that they'll find another way to treat him this time.

You may be right - I thought it was both a reaction to the meds in combination with concussion symptoms and a total loss of appetite.

  15. I completely agree. We need a qb, rb, C, LB, DT and either a CB or OT. With 6 picks in the top 3 rounds we can fill a lot of long term needs.

Also a smart move for the Browns. They were probably finding it hard to sign a decent FA. Taylor is under contract for decent starter QB money. Gives them a year to develop the QB they draft.

Why ? They would have access to the same group of FAs as the Bills.

  16. I think it's important to note that head injuries are wildly unpredictable and each person is impacted differently.  So, while Savard may have had one set of symptoms and impacts, Okposo may be different.  There are certainly plenty of people who have sustained major concussion and as of yet are not showing major brain trauma impacts.

The good news is that there is a massive amount of study going on and the use of fMRI, etc. to map and monitor changes in brain function.  I am certain that Okposo will get very good treatment and some projection of the latest injury (assuming it's even a head injury) impact on his mental function.

Frankly I really hope it's a chest injury... unlikely, but I hope.

I wonder what Crosby's brain looks like at this point.  He was out of hockey for a significant period of time.

While this is true, KO's first reported concussion landed him in the ICU and IIRC he lost a lot of weight as well as had other symptoms. As you say, I'm sure KO will make the right decision based on expert medical opinions and the advice of his family.

  17. I'll plan on meeting there.

I'll also probably grab lunch at Union Pub (38 Swan St, near Washington & across the street from Pilot Field (Dunn Tire Park, Mighty Taco Palace, whatever the #### they call it these days) at noon. How early are people planning on meeting at will call?

Still not sure if my kids are coming along or not. Will try to get confirmation on that tonight. If not, I'll probably have an extra pair in the front row of the 300's that I will part with cheaply.

Also, it's been a LONG time (like 15+ years) since I've been in Cole's. Assuming they allow underaged people into the establishment, can anyone please confirm that?

They do - I've taken my family there many times.
