  1. I hope he doesn't because at 21 I wouldn't touch him. He's not good and needs 2 years behind a vet at least.

Idc what the pundits making mocks think. Allen isn't good. For every highlight there's 3 plays where you say wtf.

You mean like Aaron Rodgers ?

  2. Im very aware of where scouts rank Allen. I don't agree with them. He's got a big arm and scouts think that's great. He makes bad decisions, he doesn't consistently throw from a strong base, he panics in the pocket, he stares down receivers. Scouts like him for 2 reasons. He is their ideal size. He has their ideal arm.

I'd wager that the scouts have every piece of game footage available of both Jackson and Allen. I also have to believe that the Bills' scouts will do their due diligence on all QBs available and be prepared to make the correct decision for the team. With that being said, if we don't trade up and Allen falls to 21/22, I'd be taking him. But he won't make it that far down. My opinion only.

  3. Oh I wanna play "gotcha" too. Quick say something that I can find a video on that disproves the thing you said!

Great, he had some touch on one throw to the back of the endzone.

You made it sound like he has no touch at all. Obviously, the potential is there or the scouts wouldn't have him rated so highly.

  4. Well when the Sabres get one of the best players of all time to go along with one of the best coaches (atleast in many opinions) then it makes it very easy to do as you say.

As for the leadership, you can't just go and find young leaders, those guys just aren't available. And most look at leadership as something gained through experience. They aren't bad because they have Pomminstein, they are bad because they don't have better talent ahead of him to push him to a lower role........

Young leadership to me is under 26-27 with 5-7 years in the league.

Pominville will go the way of Moulson next year - healthy scratches and a possible demotion at some point.

  5. When he actually runs, no he doesn't keep his eyes downfield. When is rolls out or steps up in a broken pocket he absolutely does. He does drop his eyes until he's decided he's running. Up until that point he's thinking about throwing. I would say he is more likely to throw then run on plays where the pocket collapses. I will say that Jackson throwing to the sidelines within about 15yrds is not good. He overthrows or out throws his receivers.

Allen's footwork is terrible and he guns every pass because he has no touch. So you are either being overthrown or breaking your fingers.

    Mason Rudolph

    No touch at all ...

  6. I'm 100% not excited about any of this stuff. I don't think Lehner is worth anything, I don't think Kane is as valuable as people want him to be, and I couldn't really care less about Dahlin or anyone else.

One person's junk is another person's treasure.

  7. Well yea, there is no golden goose for QB projections. And even with strongly correlated stats, there are going to be exceptions.

Right, I would expect a QB's completion % to be lower if he threw more 20+ yard routes than another who had more 5-10 yarders.  So maybe's that's the case with Allen although I don't know for sure. Too many other factors as well including quality of receivers, opposition defenses, offensive schemes, weather, etc.

  8. Let's look at yards per completion.

    Rosen: 8.5yrds

    Jackson: 8.5yrds

    Allen: 6.7yrds

    Darnold: 8.6yrds

    Mayfield: 11.5yrds

    Rudolph: 10.03yrds

Even that is misleading as it doesn't tell you the actual length of the pass since it includes yards after the catch.

  9. Of course you do. Rosen is better than Jackson. Rosen won't be there at #3.  Hard to get up to #1 or #2.

I wish I could find drop percentages. I know jackson's WR weren't good even though that doesn't explain everything. Now you ready for this fun, EJ Manuel had a 68% completion percentage his senior year. 9% higher than Jackson and 5.4% higher than Rosen.

Completion %s don't mean a lot unless you also look at the distances the passes were thrown.

  10. Not sure where you're getting those figures for Scandella and I like Foligno too but we had to get defense in here in the worst way.  Ennis and Pominville's contract length is the same with (if memory serves) Pominville 1 mil more in cap hit than Ennis.

I'm just adding in about $3 million of Pommers salary to Scandella's $4 mil as no way is Pommers a $5 a year player. I just don't want to see any more players at the tail end of their career for which we'll be asking how to buy them out or where should we send them.

  11. We didn't sign Pommers - we traded to get rid of Ennis with the opportunity to also get a defenseman in Scandella.   You want Ennis back?

Agreed, but we now have Pominville who dead weight now and probably will be next year as well. Ennis will be playing next year and he and Pominville are 5 pts apart and most of Pominville's points were at the beginning of the year. I actually liked Foligno - thought he came to play every game.

So it's like we're paying 7-8 million for Scandella ...

  12. I provided a detailed answer to this very inquiry from you in another thread, with no response. So it’s nice to know comments about the benefits of winning are going by the wayside. I’m not writing it all out again.

Serious question, how many times do the Sabres have to be terrible and draft top 10, with no improvement, until people admit that picking high is no guarantee of ANY kind of success?

If the Sabres are terrible again next year, after yet another high pick, will the refrain again be about losing to get a high picks? Lose for Hughes?

It’s doesnt necessarily work. It’s clearly not working for the Sabres.

I would start to wonder about the mouse than keeps going back and pushing that same button, even though it’s transmitting an electric shock every time it’s pushed.

All one needs to do is look at the New England Patriots as an example. Always draft near last, build a core of solid players, and then supplement with established young talent.

If you assume that 95-99% of drafted players are a crapshoot to play well in the NHL, they why not trade Kane for existing prospects with a year or couple years under their belt instead of looking at a draft choice ?

Botterill needs to establish the core and keep it the same as long as possible. IMO, you can't roll 10-12 players every year and expect the team to win the next season. Also, we need to stop signing guys like Pommers/Gorges at the tail end of their career.  Sure the team needs leadership, but the leadership doesn't have to be at the end of their career.
