  1. So what are you actually proposing?  We could stay the course but we just became the first NHL team in history to finish 31st.  We could get *more* negative, but ROR just said he lost his love for the game at points this season so I'm not sure that's even possible.

    Or we could push for leadership that is bold, positive, and assertive rather than the passive apologetic gloom we've been stuck with for years.

    "We should do better"

    "We know we could do more"

    "Everyone knows we need to give more effort"

    Or

    "We are going to work our @sses off and win."

    See the difference?

    There is no difference if everyone on the team is not thinking the same way. Helps to have something to play for after the 1st of the year.

  2. He could have said that, but it wasn't really true.  They aren't loaded with a bunch of aging veterans but they aren't as young as they seem either.  The youngest in the lineup was Eichel at 21.  Reinhart is 22.  Both of them are in the 3rd year.  I think ROR is honest with himself that at times he lost passion for the game.  I mean, early on this year the team was horrendous.. at some point you aren't looking forward to coming in and getting knocked around.

    He's blamed them before.  Stop trying to get the square peg in the round hole.

    It doesn't work that way.  This isn't the 70's.  I am sure Housley could have come in, Day 1, and knocked the crap out of the players.  I'm guessing there's a north of 75% chance they would immediately stopped playing for him and this season would have been even worse.

    Why ? IMO, I think knocking the crap out of them in camp sends a message that we're gonna work hard all year. And I don't think the season could've been any worse.

    There are plenty of guys that bust their arse in the offseason and come to camp ready to work. They get paid for the whole season, not just games.

    @pham1717
    Housley: "Jason and I will have to talk about that, but I don't expect any changes on the coaching staff."

    @pham1717
    Housley: "I told them to be ready for training camp. It's going to be a hard camp.

    @pham1717
    Housley said he didn't see O'Reilly lose his passion for the game.

    @pham1717
    Housley: "We have to evaluate everything. The coaching staff, the players. What are they going to invest in this summer to change."

    What a crock - every training camp should be a hard camp. It becomes even harder if you show up to camp out of shape.

  4. Absolutely.

    Karlsson will turn 28 on May 31; Risto will turn 24 on October 27.

    Karlsson put up 62 points in 71 games this year on a terrible team while working his way back from a very tough injury.

    Risto's cap hit is $5.4MM for 4 more seasons (after this one).  So he'll get a big UFA contract that starts in his age 28 season.  That contract will probably cost at least $6.5MM per year.

    Karlsson will probably cost $10MM x 8 years.  So for the 1st 4 years, he'll cost $4.6MM more than Risto, and for the 2nd 4 years he'll cost $3.5MM more than Risto.

    Of course, Karlsson's play could decline precipitously, especially during the back half of that contract.

    Karlsson is still unquestionably a top-10 player in the NHL, and probably top-5.  Risto may or may not be a top-pairing defenseman.

    I think if Karlsson is traded he will probably return more than Risto plus the #4 pick in the draft.

    How bout we throw some cash at the other Carlson ?

  5. I've been on here for like 7 years and I still have many posts unresponded to.... Then again, I don't usually have good convo, just some silly one liners lol

    Yep, the fog has lifted ... appreciate all of the comments on this and that in and of itself is welcoming. Nuff said ...

  6. I don't think so this time; we were in traffic that was moving slowly. She has had car sickness issues before, but not often the last couple months I've been driving her to school in the morning.

    Any fever ?  Could just be an intestinal virus.

  7. I don't think there is any undo pressure on either. Beane just "got them to the playoffs" so he'll have 3 years to get our QB up to speed and build around him.

    Botterill has the benefit of finishing last. Literally anything will be an improvement. With pieces like this year's number one and apparently O'Reilly on the block, a 20 point jump in the standings wouldn't be unrealistic.

    Disagree ... Beane has to draft the "right" QB and that in and of itself is pressure to me. He also has to fill all of the other holes we have. I can't think of a more pressure packed decision than "Do we move up or not ?"

    I hope you're right about Botterill, but he's under pressure to fix the 'D' and the goaltending. Another finish near last place and he'll be gone. It may have to be done via trade for a goalie as the UFA class doesn't impress with the exception of maybe Raanta.

    Glad you're optimistic about #1 ... don't run the simulator lol.
