He could have said that, but it wasn't really true. They aren't loaded with a bunch of aging veterans but they aren't as young as they seem either. The youngest in the lineup was Eichel at 21. Reinhart is 22. Both of them are in the 3rd year. I think ROR is honest with himself that at times he lost passion for the game. I mean, early on this year the team was horrendous.. at some point you aren't looking forward to coming in and getting knocked around.
He's blamed them before. Stop trying to get the square peg in the round hole.
It doesn't work that way. This isn't the 70's. I am sure Housley could have come in, Day 1, and knocked the crap out of the players. I'm guessing there's a north of 75% chance they would immediately stopped playing for him and this season would have been even worse.
Why ? IMO, I think knocking the crap out of them in camp sends a message that we're gonna work hard all year. And I don't think the season could've been any worse.
There are plenty of guys that bust their arse in the offseason and come to camp ready to work. They get paid for the whole season, not just games.

@pham1717Housley: "Jason and I will have to talk about that, but I don't expect any changes on the coaching staff."@pham1717Housley: "I told them to be ready for training camp. It's going to be a hard camp.@pham1717Housley said he didn't see O'Reilly lose his passion for the game.@pham1717Housley: "We have to evaluate everything. The coaching staff, the players. What are they going to invest in this summer to change."
What a crock - every training camp should be a hard camp. It becomes even harder if you show up to camp out of shape.

I would totally try to get Joe Thornton in here. Money talks. Get it done Botterill.
For what ? Thornton will be 39 when the season starts.
-
Are you counting empty-net goals in your calcs ?

I'd fire Rob's ass so fast. He's not nearly good enough to get to act like he doesn't care to be there. He's been beating that drum on his WGR appearances for weeks. He's been citing the number of days left in the season. One more untalented slacker to send away.
Agreed - I would have fired him just for the stupid banter with R.J.

More updates ...
http://thestarphoenix.com/news/local-news/humboldt-broncos-bus-involved-in-highway-crash
Looking at the bus, I'm surprised there were any survivors.
-
Interesting. I just read that Greyhound in the U.S. equipped their buses with seat belts about 10 years ago.
But your average school bus does not ...
-
Very sad ... looks like some of them could be related.

Only one way to find out.
The list is only good if Ottawa tries to force a trade on him. If we offer the right deal, he might waive it.
-
No offense to you intended here, but, f*ck the draft.
Karlsson is The Truth. Right now. And maybe for ten more years.
Karlsson has a 10-team modified no trade. Think Buffalo is on the list ?
-
Absolutely.
Karlsson will turn 28 on May 31; Risto will turn 24 on October 27.
Karlsson put up 62 points in 71 games this year on a terrible team while working his way back from a very tough injury.
Risto's cap hit is $5.4MM for 4 more seasons (after this one). So he'll get a big UFA contract that starts in his age 28 season. That contract will probably cost at least $6.5MM per year.
Karlsson will probably cost $10MM x 8 years. So for the 1st 4 years, he'll cost $4.6MM more than Risto, and for the 2nd 4 years he'll cost $3.5MM more than Risto.
Of course, Karlsson's play could decline precipitously, especially during the back half of that contract.
Karlsson is still unquestionably a top-10 player in the NHL, and probably top-5. Risto may or may not be a top-pairing defenseman.
I think if Karlsson is traded he will probably return more than Risto plus the #4 pick in the draft.
How bout we throw some cash at the other Carlson ?

Maybe get a Sabre-centric avatar? At first glance you kind of give off a non-Sabre fan vibe.
Good idea - tks

I've been on here for like 7 years and I still have many posts unresponded to.... Then again, I don't usually have good convo, just some silly one liners lol
Yep, the fog has lifted ... appreciate all of the comments on this and that in and of itself is welcoming. Nuff said ...

If identity is the same as chemistry, I'm all in.

I don't think so this time; we were in traffic that was moving slowly. She has had car sickness issues before, but not often the last couple months I've been driving her to school in the morning.
Any fever ? Could just be an intestinal virus.

I don't think there is any undo pressure on either. Beane just "got them to the playoffs" so he'll have 3 years to get our QB up to speed and build around him.
Botterill has the benefit of finishing last. Literally anything will be an improvement. With pieces like this year's number one and apparently O'Reilly on the block, a 20 point jump in the standings wouldn't be unrealistic.
Disagree ... Beane has to draft the "right" QB and that in and of itself is pressure to me. He also has to fill all of the other holes we have. I can't think of a more pressure packed decision than "Do we move up or not ?"
I hope you're right about Botterill, but he's under pressure to fix the 'D' and the goaltending. Another finish near last place and he'll be gone. It may have to be done via trade for a goalie as the UFA class doesn't impress with the exception of maybe Raanta.
Glad you're optimistic about #1 ... don't run the simulator lol.
-
I can't remember a time in my years of fandom where the pressure has been higher on both GMs in Buffalo sports.
-
I think you're crazy if you think our forwards are mostly fine.
Agreed, but he needs to fix the 'D' and goaltending with utmost priority.
-
Interesting. First time I’ve heard that one.
Just an observation, or have you heard things?
Too me, he looked more tentative than labouring early.
Just an observation, but he seemed a lot slower in the first half of the season. Don't understand how he would be tentative as he had a good 2016-17.
-
lol, that is exactly what first popped into my head.
The tale of two seasons;
The first half the most disappointing
The second half the most Improved.
IMO, Reinhart came to camp out of shape and played his way into it as the season went on.
Most improved - Reinhart
Most disappointing - Lehner / Johnson
-
If he doesn't it'll be his choice.
Agreed - he may decide to help his wife out on the campaign trail.
-
See, this is why I don't respond to everyone's posts.
I do now see your point.
Bite your tounge
Sorry, but I think Doug might be the Buffalo equivalent of the curse of the Bambino. Time to go.

Wholesale changes
Start with the goal song, Doug Allen, changing the unis back to royal blue, and it pains me to say it, but let RJ retire. Lowering the ticket prices a tad would help retain some of the fan base that has had enough.

There is no difference if everyone on the team is not thinking the same way. Helps to have something to play for after the 1st of the year.
