  1. So if I may summarize your position so that you can verify if I understand or not: These me are POWs of a war that will be ongoing for generations. As such they should be held for life without charge.
  2. I see all of your non-solutions, I get them, I'm wondering if you have a solution, within the means of the United States (for instance, we can't force Yemen to become a stable democracy with a strong criminal justice system overnight.) I see three possible options: provide the evidence and charge in some juristiction, release to their nation of origin, detain forever. The third option is a non-starter for me. The first option has to be a risk assessment of these men vs the intelligence cost. If that assessment says the intelligence cost is too high, then release is the only option.
  3. Interestingly, according to the article, that is largely what the President intends to do.
  4. I understand what you would do with future captured persons. What would you do with the current uncharged detainees?
  5. This is the beauty of the Internet and Corporate Capitalism. We all find out about these things, and it scares the pants off the CEO's of associated Corporations. It's so easy for a negative social media campaign to pop up, and it's every PR/Marketing Manager's nightmare.
  6. Can we detain any non-US Citizen for life without charge if they are suspected of supporting a un-identifiable enemy of America?
  7. I thought I asked for clarification, which you provided, and went no further. I wanted to get the discussion back onto poverty. Which is where is went. Who is the enemy?
  8. That was me. I really believe that people who use his middle name, which he does not use, and is not needed to differentiate him from another similarly named person, is used exclusively to extend a negative connotation associated with his racial heritage. This is the definition of racial bias, and I suggested that those who do this are being affected by that, likely sub conscious, bias. I'm not calling anyone a Klansman, I'm pointing out that choosing to put an emphasis on his middle name is a decision to inject race, and religion, into the conversation.
  9. I'm not extending then American Constitutional Rights. I'm saying we should extend this as a basic human right.
  10. This is about the assurance of those basic God Given rights. The men potentially being released (Full Disclosure, I can't bring myself to read NY Post Articles since they ran the cover story with the wrong guys in the Boston Bombings) are being held without charge. It's a difficult scenario, because POWs can be held without charge, but the in this new type of war it's tough to define a POW. Regardless, if we are naming them as POWs so we can hold them without charge, when the hostilities end, we have an obligation to charge them or release them. If we could convict them, I have no doubt we would be doing that. My understanding is that there is no solid evidence, and as such most of the detainees have to be released within the next year as we wind down the war. As awful as these men might be, without evidence, they still deserve basic human rights.
  11. Hi, I'm Glass the Patriot, nice to meet you.
  12. I was thinking about bumping this the other day. My Orioles are having a solid start despite some injuries (Three of their best position players have missed significant time) but they still trail the Jays by 5.5. Thank god for the long season and the wildcard(s). I've found that the last two years, as my oldest has started T-ball (I'm the head coach!!) all my old love for the game has come rushing back. My brother bought himself and me new gloves for my birthday last year and we get together about once a week just to throw. The sound of ball hitting the glove is so damn satisfying. O's - Athletics is three MLB.tv free game this afternoon. I know what I'll be doing :-D
  13. You can save any PDF to the kindle and read it like a book.

  15. just loaded on my kindle. The intro and first dozen pages will hook ya. Sabrespace Book Club?
  16. The last 25 years have pretty much been spent destroying military and paramilitary groups we created during the Cold War. Iraq, Afganistan, Iraq Part II, even the JNA had us made weapons. Eisenhower was dead right.
  17. Just made chicken fried rice from scratch. Plenty of ginger. Yum nom nom nom.
  18. She's totally not serious either. Before this album, her breakout was a YouTube video for her song Pu$$y (yes, spelled like that) A sample of the lyrics: Left right back to the middle Head on swivel neck till I quivel Open ya mouth Taste the rainbow taste my Skittles ah!
  19. I'm not saying they're saints, I'm saying not one of them has been charged with a crime in the Hague.
  20. I'm pretty confident most people reading the conversation will accept the bold for the complete BS that it is. Of course we'd have a great time getting a beer. and we should! I don't think you're an evil guardian of the underworld at all. I think you are subconsciously (as I initially noted) affect by racial biases, as almost all American's are. I feel it is constructive to point out those instances. Seriously, if I'm ever in ATL or you make it to the Finger Lakes, we should do beers. And Good Luck Tomorrow!
  21. I'm not racist! I have a black friend!!! I'm not pointing it out to change your mind, I'm pointing it out for the benefit of anyone else reading the conversation. I'm 100% certain you never referenced William Jefferson Clinton, George Herbert Walker Bush, Ronald Wilson Reagan, or James Earl Carter. Your use is specifically to demean the man based on his genealogy. It's the definition of racism.
  22. It's not minutia, it gets to the core of a very significant subconscious racial bias against this particular man.
