I was with you. But I think this is part of the frustration. Adjusting or lack there of. We need to get better with working the puck low to high from behind the net in the offensive zone. We just can’t do it. We also seem totally hell bent on working the rush through the center and never answer when it’s taken away. Bryson and Clague are useless.

I hope the Sabres come out and score 4 more. Also Clague is absolutely lost out there.

I think teams are forcing us to start playing the puck low to high in the offensive zone and we suck at it. I am curious if Mitts is a guy who could QB that from behind the net?

I have some individual criticisms (*cough* Bryson *cough*). But as an overall team I thought we played well. We suck at moving the puck low to high in the offensive zone. Teams are starting to force us to and we have no answer.

Quinn has leveled up since filling in for Tuch. Curious if Cozens/Tuch could do the same for JJ.

I tried the game off at a little more than half way through the 3rd at 3-0. The Sabre’s had clearly given up so I was going to spend some time with the Mrs. My jaw dropped when I saw 7-1. I’ve been high on this team making the post season for some time. They were scoring a ton. Playing fun hockey. Their plus minus was through the roof and their lower play was elite. Theres a lot to be excited about, but they’ve been missing something post ASG. I’m not sure they find their way into the playoffs anymore.

I think we dismantled the whole thing. I remember starting to lose belief with the Campbell trade. It’s been 15 years so it’s foggy. But I just remember all this talk about the Sabres needing more production from their defense. Somebody who can move the puck, etc. And just being like “The WTF did you trade Campbell”. He was one of my favorites of that era.

I try and forget as much as possible about that era of Sabres hockey.

I don’t know if anybody is questioning whether he can be rough like sandpaper or strong like bull. Rather, is he any good at hockey.

This reminds me of late in the 2011-12 season when we traded Gaustad before the deadline for a first on the last year of his deal. I legitimately thought he could be coming right back.

I was actually hoping we’d start to see Anderson at home. Goaltending has been tough at at KBC, and Anderson has the best number in Buffalo by a decent margin I believe.

I’ve been just sort of mapping out the Sabres path to a possible 8th seed in 5-10 game increments. I certainly knew the road gets tougher come March. But man, I just looked at the schedule. I thought 5/10 points to finish the month would be quality. But man. I wish we did better to open up post ASB to give us some wiggle room come March. EDIT: This wasn’t the first time I’ve looked at the March schedule. Sometimes I just try and take stuff in digestible and actionable chunks. This week was the first time I had to fully digest March.

I was shocked he didn't get 5 for that. Stunned. I thought there was a strong argument to toss him from the game for that. It was wildly flagrant and targeted.

My uncle texts me after every big loss something along the lines of “I can’t believe you think this team is moving in the right direction, could make the playoffs, etc.” My personal favorite is “this team would get destroyed by the 99 team” because the Sabres are likely a Stanley cup favorite with prime Hasek between the pipes playing 60-70 games per year. Similarly to this it drives me nuts. And he has nothing to add to the conversation. I don’t need it to even be positive. But just add something…anything…other than basically “haha, we suck and you’re a loser”

We surely need to beef up our lower pairings. But it seems like we have an abundance of good to serviceable left handed defensemen and we’re in desperate need of a couple of righties.

I am drinking the koolaide. I think we’re on to something. I think it will be tough sledding for this team to make the playoffs and win a series in the same year. I’d love to get the monkey off of our backs now and be able to slightly raise expectations in the 23/24 season.

The team is getting better and guys are developing. We’re the youngest team in the league. He gets the opportunity to try and see this thing through.

Good post. I keep having the Sabres playoff conversation and friends just chirp me after games like this. I don’t think the Sabres are world beaters. They’re a middling team in a log jam of other middling teams for the 7-8 seed. None of which I think are hands down better than the others. Sabres are one and done in the playoffs and not close at all. If somehow we could push Boston to a game 6, that would be incredible. But like are out in 4 maaaybe 5.
