  1. The bare minimum for Risto to EDM for me would be

Yamamoto, Klefbom, and #10 for Risto and our 4th.

The biggest problem wit trading Risto is the lack of grit and ice munching we'd have on the back end.

  2. You could be right. My belief is based on:

1.) Botts calling Risto "just a top 4D" instead of a top-pairing D BEFORE it was cool, last offseason  (He's likely a 2-3, so that makes sense)

2.) Botts not mentioning him in a recent interview when talking about his core (GMs rarely mention every player, remember the time before that he mentioned Risto and forgot ROR which had people up in arms)

3.) Botts' general need to shake up the core and acknowledgement that he needs to do so, coupled with reaffirming his desire to keep ROR and mentioning Reinhart in his core. (I actually doubt he does with the Dahlin pick, before he was likely prepping us for trading ROR/Reinhart to get another Dman)

4.) Rumors that Risto is a locker room/coaching problem (Aside from Paul Hamilton, has anyone else actually said meep about this?)

And again, if he trades Risto; Botterill better get a king's ransom and then some. Not prospects or picks but Taylor Hall-esc, so not RNH.

  3. Oh, I'm separating my view of Risto from Botterill's there. I think that HE wants to trade Risto, and I think Edmonton wants to trade for Risto.

I don't see that, he'd be rather dumb to do so and I just don't see Botts being that stupid barring Chia handing over the equivalent of his 1st born

  4. I'm not trading any of our core unless the trade makes us blatantly better.

I'm not trading Risto for anything short of Draisital on EDM. I'm not taking pieces or cap dumps or picks, they either give us a player of similar importance or I'm keeping our young defenseman.

So I think Risto is going to be the guy. And I think Edmonton might be a target.

I know you dislike Risto, but that doesn't mean we need to trade him.

  5. OK -- as I posted in the playoffs thread, I'm ready to commit to Braden Holtby as my #1 offseason target for the Sabres, with Grubauer as my fallback.

It looks like the Caps have enough cap space to keep both, but they also have a good goalie prospect in their system -- Ilya Samsonov, their #1 pick in 2015 -- and the plan reportedly is for them to bring Samsonov over from the KHL for next season. So it's fairly likely that they trade either Holtby (if they want to free up more cap space) or Grubauer.

Holtby is under contract for 2 more years at a $6.1MM cap hit. His numbers declined this year -- he was 7th in the NHL in wins, but had fairly pedestrian GAA and SV%. But over the last 3 years, he's #1 in wins, #7 in GAA and #13 in SV%. And the 2 years left on his contract means that it's not an Okposo-like enormous commitment that goes on forever.

Grubauer played 35 games this year and had better GAA and SV% than Holtby. Grubauer is cheaper and is trending up, while Holtby is expensive and trending down (although he's had a great playoffs). If Holtby is put on the market, a number of teams will be interested.

Could the Sabres get him for Nylander and their #2 pick this year? Who says no?

As good as Holtby might be he’s not worth a recent Top 10 1st rounder and the 32nd Pick to me.

  6. Apologies! I think it's a good one.

No reason not to be creative to get our goalie, rather than just sending over asset x for goalie y.

No problem, I had thought on a similar train of thought in order to acquire Grubauer

  7. Orpik only has one year left on his deal. Would anyone be interested in taking him with Grubauer to reduce the price of getting a goalie? Is it worth the risk that Housley actually uses him and relies on him, not recognizing the reason he was brought in, to the detriment of our defense day in and day out?

I mentioned this idea about 2 weeks ago :)

  8. Solid effort, but I just can't live with those wingers

The problem is there aren't many wingers out there...... either they'd require to many assets or they are one dimensional.

I liked my McCabe for Yamamoto deal seeing as I could really see Edmonton biting on that and he's a solid winger prospect.

Vanek is a 1 year guy who has spurts of speed and still scores

Wilson is a solid bottom 6 winger

ERod I really want to see with Eichel

    as for RW

Okposo should bounce back this year to some degree

Reinhart (2nd Half) would be our best winger

Baptiste, speedy who has scoring potential

Pominville & Hendricks, vet presence who sit on the bottom line or in the suites

    Bailey, extra fast guy

  9. I think that's the consensus around the league. Keith and Seabrooke are pretty toast at this point. Might have another surprising year, maybe 2, but they're no longer top pairing guys.

Another example of why the league has started to pay for potential and not past performance

5 more years at 5.5M cap hit. He'll be 39 by the time that contract ends

To be honest while Seabrook is cooked, I think Keith may still have a little left in the tank due to how he plays the game. Place him next to Dahlin and I'd bet he'll look like he did a couple years ago. Not to mention his resume is worth the contract, 2 Norris, a Conn Smythe and 3 Cups where he had an instrumental part of winning them. He's reliable health wise and aside from this year he was still a solid Dman. And this year he was playing the Ristolainen role on a defense that has been stripped of most of its overall talent.

    What about

    https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/679026

  10. Can't believe so many people want to keep players we've been losing with.

Because it is both unrealistic and idiotic to attempt and completely wipe this team down to the studs without making us wait 4 more years

  11. Here's another idea

I tried to find a nice mix of vets and speed, and as for the high cap dumps

2019 Contracts that end of not:

    Pominville 5.6mil

    Orpik 5.5mil

Moulson 5mil (Granted 1mil was saved during the season)

    Hagelin 4 mil

    Vanek 3.25mil

Kruger 3.08mil (Granted 1mil was saved during the season)

    Hendricks 2mil

I'm attempting to maximize our cap space while we have the opportunity to use it to gain further assets.

  12. I think ppl are underestimating how crowded are blueline has become

Nobody’s counting on Pilut, Antipin, Nelson and Bogosian playing and Dahlin still feels like a mirage.

I would trade Beaulieu and Antipin (rights) and buyout Bogosian

  13. The cap will be at 80mil

And based off this other team I made earlier we'd still have 10 mil in cap space.

Remember we shed Gorges contract and a Bogosian buyout would give us nearly 3.5 mil.

Plus I'm ridding us of Beaulieu

    Orpik's is 5.5mil x 1 year

  14. What is a fair value trade for one of Washington's goalies?

IMO goalie has just become priority #1.

Probably picks and prospects. The Caps don't really need much as far as roster players go. They have plenty of cap space to lock down their D free agents which is their only area of need. I could even see them qualifying Grubauer and then trading him during the season if they end up having a need somewhere. But I don't think they have to trade either of their goalies, which makes them a tough trade partner.

Would you be willing to take on Orpik's salary to get Grubauer?

    Beaulieu for Hagelin straight up?
