  1. Which D-man is the odd man out?

If Risto,Zadorov, and McCabe all pan out who do we keep?

    Myers

    Ehrhoff

    Pysyk

    McNabb

    Ruhwedal

    Weber

    McBain

only 3 of them would stay in the NHL. And besides Weber/Ehrhoff they're all young and typically successful Ds have 1 vet at minimum.

  2. If we were to attempt to trade Miller for Tarensenko, how much of the trade would Miller be worth?

    25% 50% 75% ?

I'm not naïve to think Miller for Tarensenko is possible, however with the depth St.L has already and their need for a vet potentially elite goalie if Murray were to insist on Tarensenko do you think it could happen?

In the ideal scenario we'd have 3 teams(St.L, Minn{Harding still injured}, Wash) bidding at Miller, and potentially a couple others. (Anaheim? NYI? Chicago even?)

  3.

To be honest I'm glad they haven't yet, I don't want us expending assets to get a guy we can pick up in the offseason for free. I love him to pieces but not enough to trade for him when he's a UFA

  4. The more I think about it, the more I want Tim Murray to do whatever it takes to bring Shane Prince, native of Spencerport, to Buffalo. He drafted him in Ottawa, and he has spoken very highly of him. If Ottawa wants Moulson and Moulson isn't out long term then send Moulson to them for Shane Prince straight up.

That video gives me chills because of the irony of the song when talking about him coming to Buffalo. One of his relatives was wearing a Sabres jersey at the draft.

Here's a young prince rocking a Sabres sweater:

Wouldn't mind Cole Schneider either. From Williamsville

  5. Gold: USA, Miller gets revenge for 2010

    Silver: Canada

Bronze: Sweden, although Lundquist goes down in the 2nd, Enroth holds onto the 3 goal Swedish lead to take Bronze

4th: Russia, the stress of being the "home" team crushes many younger Russians and Ovi and Kovulchuk cause internal strife (Ovi tells Kovulchuck he's ruined many Russian players hopes in the NHL)

  6. Since about the time Hodgson went down, Ennis has been playing like an animal. If Ennis continues to play this way when Hodgson comes back, I think he will have alot fewer eyes on him. Hopefully with the reduced pressure his numbers will start to improve. Oh yeah and f*** Zack Kassian.

So far this seems to be playing out. Although with less offensively gifted players, he's been generating more points as a 2nd line center.

Five Stages of Grief: 1. Denial 2. Anger 3. Bargaining 4. Depression 5. Acceptance.

The only thing sadder than fans rooting for a tank is fans someone convincing themselves the tank is complete. It's like deciding you're going to go on a diet and then deciding mission accomplished because didn't that salad last week count just as much as a diet?

The Sabres have never tanked. This is their fourth year in a row where they've started horribly and then begun to climb out of that mid-season.

    2010-2011: Start horribly, draft 16th.

    2011-2012: Start horribly, draft 12th.

    2012-2013: Start horribly, draft 8th.

    2013-2014: Start horribly, draft ???.

What we have to show for this so far is: Armia (so-so in the AHL), Catenacci (barely exists in the AHL) , Jacobs (who?), Grigorenko (has had success in the Q and a good WJC), Girgensons (awesome but needs to protect himself if he wants a long career), McCabe (hasn't turned pro yet), Kea (???), Ullmark (let's see what he can do in North America in late 2015), Risto (so far so good), Zadorov (so far so good), and a 2013 grab bag of a forwards that *might* be good but probably won't be superstars (Compher, Hurley, Bailey, Baptiste, and Possler).

Not a bad haul, but I'm still not seeing a franchise player to lead us back to the playoffs in there. And by "franchise player", I'm not even talking about a Crosby. I just mean someone to lead the team, and to count on when the game is on the line. I guess maybe Myers if continues his resurgence. Maybe Girgensons if he doesn't get himself killed.

Complete the tank this year and a first overall pick means they're getting a player with more potential than anyone they've drafted since Pierre Turgeon (1987). Add that guy and suddenly this whole blueprint (no hashtag) snaps into focus. Unfortunately, draft 4th, 5th, or 6th this year (which seems likely) and we're looking at another Grignorenko-level prospect. Who knows?

As for next year, I hope they start off hot and we hope they hang in there for the playoffs. Anything is better than another year of "Start horribly, and hope they finish horribly." Four is plenty.

    Based on that.....

    2013-2014: Start horribly, draft 4th.

    2014-2015: Start horribly, draft 1st.

I'd be perfectly fine with that.

  8. Miller is an enigma for me, while I doubt he wants to be a Sabres player in the current situation; I believe he loves the city and its people. I'd offer him a contract and if he's unwilling to sign I'd trade him to the highest bidder in the West.

  9.

Could we toss in a 2nd rounder from this year as well to help sweeten the pot? We have so many 2nd and you see so many traded at the deadline that we should be able to package some things together. TM just has to identify who he wants to go after. As for Toffoli I don't know much more than his stat line and I'm not up on Kings prospects but if he is worth trading for then we could try Moulson plus some pick(s).

Tyler Toffoli 9g 8a in 33 games. However in his last 11 games he hasn't had a point. He put up 2g and 4a in 12 playoff games last year.

  10. If we trade Moulson without getting him to telling us he'd resign here I can't see Miller resigning.

Toffoli & marginal prospect for Moulson and the Sabres 2nd rounder might work. I wouldn't be willing to take players with 3 to 4 year wait periods. I'd want at maximum players who'll be able to play for us in the 2015-2016 season along with "McDavid." Any later and you start making the Sabres, Bills 2.0 which = continuous rebuild.

  11. Best case scenario: Isles defer, we finish last next year and the Isles win the lottery. We pick Eichel and McDavid. NHL champions ten years in a row.

Which first rounder from this year are you trading? You definitely don't trade a potential number one pick for a first rounder next year unless it's to a very very bad team (so only teams like Florida, Edmonton, Calgary).

And as for moving up next year: I don't think anybody will even consider trading away McDavid. I don't think we could trade them three first rounders and a pick in every other round next year even just to move up one spot from 2-1 next year.

I meant one of the random 1st rounders we'd get, not our pick.

The only way I draft Ekblad over Reinhart is if Myers is fetching us Eberle or better in a trade.

  12. If we can convince Ott and/or Moulson to be traded and come back that'd be a plus. Miller I'm on he fence on what to do, but it looks like it'll be a trade. Thus

    Ott for someone's 1st rounder in 2015 and a 3rd rounder this year or (b) a 1st rounder in 2014

Moulson for a 2015 1st rounder and a 3rd rounder this year prospect or two.

Miller for a 2015 1st rounder and something.

See if Tallinder, Sulzer, or even McBain is worth something to someone.

If option (b) is taken then trade that 1st rounder to Ottawa for their 1st rounder next year and a prospect Murray likes.

During the 2014 draft, aside from grabbing an elite player at the top like Reinhardt, aggressively try to move up with the extra 2nds or even package a couple together to move up into the 1st round again, then trade it to someone willing to give you their 1st rounder next year.

In the end, we could have 4 to 5+ 1st rounders in the 2015 draft. Then not only do the odds help us, but in the event we get #2 and want McDavid we'd have ample ammunition to move up.
