Depends on the player and franchise he plays for......

For those thinking the Sabres would get a nice return for Miller, When was the last time a good starting goaltender was traded, and what kind of return did it bring the other team trading him? Recently it looks like backups that have shown potential and look like they could become starters have been moved but can't think of any that got a good return for them. Halak from Montreal to St. Louis? Hasek from Buffalo to Detroit? They say his best value is at the deadline cause next year he will be in his final year of his deal. So at the deadline, what team will be looking for a Goalie and what would a team in playoff contention be willing to give up for a goalie? The team would have to be someone looking for a starter and not a backup. Regier said last night that teams who are Buyers at the deadline aren't looking to deal away good roster players for guys, they will give up picks and prospects. If your going to move Miller then, your gonna need someone else here to take his spot for the rest of the season so your gonna have to get back a goalie or make a seperate move to get one (limiting your return cause your either taking away some value of your return by taking another goalie back, or giving up something to get someone else here. Looking at the Standings, I would say the top spot could be Detroit (would Darcy go back and deal another great Buffalo goalie to Detroit to help them win again?) Detroit could use an upgrade with their weaker defence. In return I would expect Buffalo would get back either Howard (if they don't wan to keep him as a backup til Millers deal is up and they don't want to re-sign him) or Gustavson. Either have potential to be decent starters (good but no where near great) until they can farm another great goalie for Detroit Other possibilities include Toronto - Looking for an upgrade, could get back Scrivens or Reimer (both have decent starter potential, good but not great) but would you want to help out a rival? Philly - Can't see it happening without the Sabres having to take Bryz off their hands (TP could do this as a favour and use one of their buyouts on him this year, which could maybe get teh Sabres a little extra in teh deal for doing them another favour) Tampa - Move would be a good fill in til the goalie they drafted is ready to come up, could send their starter they picked up from Nashville in return Winnipeg - Possible if they feel they are good enough for the playoffs and have lost faith in Pavelac, but from what tehir owner said when he purchased them, they weren't going to be big spenders and would build the team through the draft Dallas - Doubtful, but they could surprise everyone and look to bring in a former friend for Roy Teams that Miller would probably be an upgrade but are doubtful that they would want to make a move to get him might be Phoenix - No big contracts are going to be brought in to Phoenix until a permanent owner is in place Washington - Could use an upgrade but don't see them as a buyer at the deadline San Jose - Only likely California team that would want him (LA has 2 very good goalies, Anaheim already had to move Hiller to backup) but I don't think their issues are goaltending enough to want to make a deal for Miller Edmonton - Millers an upgrade, but they aren't close to being a contender yet, even though they have been doing what everyone here wants Buffalo to do for many years, "Suck for (insert this years #1 pick)!" They won't be buyers Columbus - Same situation as Edmonton and Washington, he's an upgrade over what they have, but they won't be Buyers Throw in other potential #1 guys that are also on the market right now like Luongo and that can also limit the kind of return Buffalo can get for Miller.

So you would be fine sending Vanek to the Press Box so that Grigo can get his minutes? We already know what we have in him and just have to explain we don't want him hurt, gotta see what we have in Grigo Seriously, the only ones that don't know what the team has in a player are the fans. Evaluating players is what the preseason is for, the coaches and Organisation know what they have in Enroth, they know he is a backup at best. If they were uncertain of his ability to even be a backup, giving him a few more starts isn't going to change their mind, just create more of a divide between the fanbase who will start up the "We should trade Miller cause Enroths shown he is capable to win some games now" They know what they have in Miller, a goaltender capable of playing at a high level in the league alot of games. -
You can get something decent for Pominville too, ship him off as well, you can replace him in the new core with Stafford who can take the 'C' from him..............

Exactly, and I was going to use the Canucks situation as an example too. You don't ask the starter to take a back seat so you can try to figure out if your backup is good enough to be a backup in the league. If you have reservations about him being capable of being a suitable backup, that you want to split time with the starter to see it, he isn't good enough to be the backupNo starting goaltender is going to be happy to spend time on the bench, they want to play. Part of it is because if the other guy starts to look better, theres a chance they could be run out of town and lose their job. Miller also has a contract coming up soon that he will want to show he can still play at a high level and handle a big workload So the Oscar winner for his performance as Severly injured player is over it and is concerned about winning instead? Thats good, I would be over it too if I was able to convince the league to suspend the guy for 5 games for something others seem to be getting away with around the league on a regular basis -

Why would Miller even agree to this? If they were to come to him and tell him that they were splitting starts for the rest of the year cause they want to see what they have in Enroth, I guarantee Miller tells them Enroth can have the rest of the season once they trade him out of Buffalo. -
I understand completly how trades work and how the league worksBecause its not the Ducks (or any other teams) problem if he does not agree to an extension at the end of the year that they would offer up multiple first and more if he doesn't. Thats why there would have to be a deal in place already for an extension before the deal is made. When have you ever seen someone get moved where they included multiple firsts and more for a player if he doesn't sign an extension with a team? Usually its only a conditional pick that gets upgrade a few rounds if the player walks. The Sabres shouldn't even be in the conversation for him if they aren't giving him what he wants in an extension, and if a deal is going to be made with both teams without an extension being agreed to already, then it won't be for Pominville, a prospect and pick.

The Sabres Hockey Hotline with... somebody or other?
apuszczalowski replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Whats so inconsistent about it? If your not a superstar/player the league cares about, or wear the right jersey, its not gonna get called/be reviewed for a suspension.Gerbe and ennis can be wheeled off on stretchers for all the league cares, they are minor pieces of the league that can be replaced without the rest of the league blinking an eye. -

Unsuspendable hit? Is that even possible? Only way you will get that is if the Rangers have one of their own players (or a Sabres puts on a Rangers Jersey) hit Richards. The Sabres will have to watch out that they don't skate by Richards too fast, if he falls over because of the breeze from the player going by the Refs will probably have the Sabre in the Box for retaliation. The Refs are gonna watch closely Might enjoy it more if you put the other game on the big screen and the Sabres on the small one....... -
I wouldn't say things haven't changed because the assistant coaches are still the same (if Rolston wanted to do something different, they would be doing it), the problem is its the same group of underachieving players still here who were the problem in the first place. If you really wanted to see a change when tehy let Ruff go, they needed to continue with moving some of the players out and replace them with some talent, not just call-ups from the AHL.
-
There is no way they include a 1st, let alone multiple firsts and a 3rd as compensation if he doesn't sign. They might get the 3rd, or maybe a 2nd if he doesn't sign Pominville, a prospect and a pick (not a 1st, maybe a 2nd but atleast a 3rd) for Perry (with him re-signing once traded) is a fair deal for both sides. But theres no way your getting anything more from the Ducks for just Pominville and a prospect.........
-
I'm not saying I agree with that either, but it makes much more sense then it being what it looks like was written of Pominville and a prospect for Perry and some 1sts from the Ducks. And theres no way I would even entertian talking to the Ducks about Perry if he is just a rental and is not going to sign a long term deal with the Sabres. But Pominville, a Prospect and some Picks for perry is most likely what it would take to get him
-
Thats not too bad, it only means your atlest 44 years old. It could be much worse, you could have been a fan of a team before the BlackHawks came into the league ;)
-
But your original proposal (the way it was written) only had the Sabres giving up Pominville and a Prospect for Perry and 2 First round picks. Were you trying to say that the 1st round picks are part of what Buffalo sends to the Ducks? That might make more sense (Pominville, Prospect, some picks for Perry)
-
Yeah, you watch the video over and over and try to convinvce yourself that you shouldn't feel the way you do cause its Neil, but then you see a Bruins jersey and your back to being confused
-
Sorry, misread that part
-
Did he really say good defencemen though? I thought they refered to them (atleast Leo) as good for a third pairing
-
Hit on Chris Neil? I want to be against it, because its Boston, but then I also want to give McQuaid an award for doing it...........
-
Actually it is if you have a few hundred Million extra laying around to own one.............Not as easy as feeling sympathetic for a billionaire whos toy is broken................
-
Do you really think the Ducks are going to give up Perry, plus multiple firsts and possibly a 3rd to get Pomminstein and a d-man prospect? I think its more likely the ducks would consider listening to Darcy if it was Vanek and a roster defencemen like Sekera plus one of our picks for Perry. Perry is going to be one of the hottest commodities at the deadline if they decide to try and move him, they aren't desperate to make any move. Doubt you see someone giving up a 2nd for Leopold when they could probably pick up another veteran defencemen with pressbox/heqalthy scratch time on waivers.
-
Your right, the owner shouldn't be blamed for his team getting worse, its not like he can do anything about that, he already fired the coach, what more could you want from him?
-
but its not TPs fault, he's trying the best he can, he fired Ruff and spent money, what else can he be expected to do?
-
Disagree, On papaer, a defencmen with Myers size would be considered great, the key is that on paper, what you get is a name along with what they are projected to do/be (potential), when you look at the lineup along with reality, thats when things look worse.

Game Discussion Thread GDT - Sabres @ Flyers, 3/10/2013, 7:30pm
apuszczalowski replied to darksabre's topic in Archive
C'mon, if that was really from Shanahan you would have to throw in an extra 10 games for Kaleta too because he is a repeat offender who probably was the reason why Ennis and Gerbe would do such a horrible thing........ -
Weither its one move or a million, TP is the one who can make things happen, its Really hard to feel any sympathy for how things are going to the one person that can make the moves needed to fix this team. Yes, firing Darcy is one of them, It fixes the team because he has assembled a roster that was supposed to be competivie thats now fighting for last in the league. The coaching change did nothing but keep fans content for a few minutes until the results stayed the same. "Status Quo" has been to make minor tweaks to the roster in the offseason, bring up some new hope from Rochester, and when things struggle, let them work themselves out on the ice instead of making changes. So what if people think this roster has more talent then their record shows, I'm sure you can say that about alot of bad teams in all of sports, so the answer is to leave things be and let them fix themselves? And I'm supposed to feel sorry for the guy who holds all the power to make anymoves because the one move he has made hasn't done a thing to change this team? Make some trades, Waive some players outside of 4th line goons/enforcers
