Well, Didn't Sawyer (one of TPs "Hockey Advisors") call Regier a "Hockey Genius" recently? I doubt he is someone who thinks DR shouldn't keep his job............ I would be really surprised to see the Sabres get anything for any of the players listed above by thewookie1. Regher, Leopold, and Hecht may get you a late draft pick or possibly a mid to low level prospect from a team thats not completly desperate for a veteran body. The rest are not guys that a playoff team is going to look at and give up much for at the deadline looking for someone to help during a playoff run. Pardy might get the most return, but even then I doubt its much. The only players that might get the team the best return are guys that you don't want to give up unless your looking at a complete gutting of the franchise and multi year rebuild. Guys like Miller, Vanek, and Pomminstein (even Ott) would get the best return, but I don't think its worth it unless your plans are to scrap everything and start over at the beggining (See Columbus). Those are guys that would have the interest of contending teams looking to make moves at the deadline. You might also find takers for the younger guys who probably won't be around (or contracts will be up) by the time the rebuild is ready to compete (Hodgson, Foligno, Ennis, etc.) The best way to move forward right now, and get back to atleast the playoffs without a complete gutting of the franchise is to fire DR when Golisano took over, Find someone to take over who will gut this team of all the dead weight by taking whatever someone might offer for some guys whos deals aren't up at the end of the season (If someones willing to give up a pick for Stafford, do it), At the end of the year let most of the UFAs go (Leopold, Hecht, Regehr) if theres no interest in them at the deadline. This should free up some cap space to hopefully make a few signings this summer, along with making a few deals using some of the picks and prospects in the system to get players that can contribute now and they can have a team that will atleast get them back to competitive which they can use to build off of to get to competing for a Cup

Terry paying Stafford $4mil a year is like you paying $4 for a beer at the game (Maybe $40 for something at the Sabres Store) There is NO WAY anyone should feel sorry for the one and only person who has the absolute power to make the changes necessary to fix things, but would rather not because it might upset the "family atmosphere" hes trying to create with his employees. Instead he is too busy making other business deals to increase his wealth now that he has most of WNY believing that everything he does is for the good of their beloved franchise and turning this into "Hockey Heaven"............ Detroit didn't become "Hockey Town" by building some pretty statues/lockerrooms/public arenas, it became 'Hockey Town" by becoming a very well run hockey franchise that focused on drafting great hockey talent and winning championships.............

If thats the team I'm thinking of, they are burried on the website because they are BAD right now from what I have heard from people around here who attend Jr. B games

So basically TP just made a purchase to ensure his new building will have a permanent tenant.................

What Goaltenders?Basically its Miller, Enroth, and a journeyman AHLer in Leggio in Rochester, after that I don't think theres anyone close to being NHL ready (maybe even a stretch to say theres anyone AHL ready) Theres always a "flavour of the month/year" that fans cling onto and think we NEED to follow to make this team a winner, and its usually whatever led to the previous SC winning team. The thing about goaltenders is that every year there are a few that seem to pop up out of no where, light it up for their team and are being touted as the next big thing, then they go on to limited or short NHL careers when teh league catches on to them. Jim Carey won a Vezina for Washington IIRC and then went no where, last year Ben Bishop was supposed to be a future stud whose struggling as a backup now in Ottawa, Johan Hedberg was looking great for NJ last year when Brodeur went down. Lots of times they are backups who looked really good for a short period for their team and teams think they can transition into being a starter when at best, they are just a good backup (Biron?)

I think its part of their slogan/tagline, WGR - Just more typical BS!Roy had to go, and he was deserving of being a whipping boy the majority of the time, but the problem is that they never addressed the loss of the production he had with this team. And this has been the biggest problem with this team, its the moves like that which only end up with the team spinning its wheels because its taking away production in one area to try and add something to another. Good teams get better by upgrading weak areas and replacing lost production. It always seems to be one or the other being done around here
-
Either way, Roy had to be moved, good for him that he is excelling with the change of scenery. The biggest issue wasn't moving Roy, its not making other moves to replace what he did produce here cause he wasn't a horrible player, he put up numbers, just his play was wearing thin here Well, unless they calculate last place differntly in the West, Dallas are currently the last place PLAYOFF team, currently sitting in 8th, while Buffalo is barely hanging on above Last place in the entire Eastern conference (and only 2 points ahead of Columbus, the last place team in the entire league, while they played more games then anyone below them)Unless Ott was from teh Niagara/Toronto area, I don't think it matters much that Buffalo is closer geographically to Canada then Dallas........

Is that when Scott and Myers go out and try to play with Ennis and Gerbes Sticks? Does anyone know if Gerbes stick would meet the size regulations for a Mini Stick tournament or would they have to add extensions to it somehow? Just look at any discussion about him playing and the few game discussion threads for when he plays and theres plenty of "He needs to get more games, how can you expect him to play good when he never sees ice time, etc." -

Not a chance, the excuse train is already backing up with the "He needs more games to show what he can do, you can't expect him to play well getting so few starts......." -

Somehow I think thats more like "Whoa is me" Sabres Fans who think that everyone views them as pushovers more then Devils fans who just witnessed their team lose to the same Sabres team on Saturday....... if teh Devils really want to have a shot at winning this game, they should try putting in Hedbergs backup tonight.............. -
Wow, less rolling around clutching body parts on the ice then Richards who was ready to go for his next shift......................

Lets let them focus on winning games before we start worrying about them having to learn how to win games with their backup against good teams........... -

This team struggles to score enough already and they usually make unknown backup backups look pretty goodPutting in Enroth will most likely mean they need to score more then 4, Carolina has really good forwards who can score If Brodeur is still on IR this week, playing Enroth against a NJ team thats less potent on offence (outside of Kovie) might be a smarter choice, although with no game then til Sunday, Miller could end up getting that start too since it seems that the only ones with faith in Enroth being a capable NHL caliber goaltender (and not a flash in the pan) are his family and Sabres fans (and I'm not even 100% sure about his family) -

That is, if the management has any thoughts of going to a new regime, with a "hockey genius" like Regier in charge, why would they trust someone else with a rebuild?

thanks, that explains why they mentioned him not getting the start in their last game in the highlights. Anyone know what the injury was?Hopefully it wasn't as serious as Richards injury............... -
I don't know if that would work or not, the boards already have some give in them, watch when guys get hit in the glass, the boards usually move a bit I think they should cover the boards in a thick "Nerf" type coating and then just let the players go wild hitting each other.........

Not surprised, when I was listening to the highlights of their last game when Ward went down, they were talking about how Ellis was supposed to have that night off to rest (or maybe it was an extra day to recover from illness), but he didn't get the night off cause Ward went down and he had to come in. (I thought it was weird they were talking about the backup goalie getting rest/night off) I guess Buffalo should throw this game, wouldn't want their record to be tainted by only beating teams backup goalies............ -
The "discipline" is a joke in the NHL, and they seriously just need to remove hitting and fighting from the game completly since they don't want to call things fair and everything is a judgement call on what the player was intending to do in the refs/shanahans eyes. There have been many similar hits to what Kaleta did that don't get called, just like there have been many similar hits to what Girardi did to Ennis that get called. Players now know what to do in ored to get a call on a player. If it wasn't for Richards Oscar winning performance laying on the ice after the hit, Kaleta would have been given a couple minutes off the ice and maybe a game or 2 suspension. Its funny, I have seen people sending pictures around that show soccer players laying on the ground clutching their knees making reference to them faking injuries, while also showing a hockey player cut skating on the ice talking about how tough they are and how they fake not having injuries, but Richards performance after being hit was something that would make a soccer player embarrassed..... (And not just because the soccer player plays Soccer)

Seriously, who is going to trade for Miller and give up anything of equal value right now? The only teams that will be looking for a veteran goaltender upgrade at thedeadline will be playoff teams. They don't give away good roster players that can effect their chances in the playoffs, they give up proscpects and draft picks. If they are a playoff team, those draft picks at best (if a 1st), will be in the 20's most likely. Teams with a chance at picks in the top 5 (or even 10) are also sellers and won't be looking to take on Miller for a run. There is not much of a market right now for top level veteran goaltending unless your willing to lower your asking price, just ask Vancouver. There is no starter in waiting here in Buffalo like Vancouver has, so any deal would have to involve either a goalie coming back or a coresponding move to spend some assets to get a goalie back. The only logical place for a deal right now would be Detroit (with Detroit sending Howard back as part of a deal which would lower the level of prospects/picks coming back), or maybe a team like the Flyers which would probably involve the Sabres having to take Bryz back in the deal. Most other teams in the playoff hunt aren't looking for upgrades at goaltending except for Toronto (if the teams GM would want to deal Miller in the same division) who could send either Reimer or Scrivens back in the deal or possible Tampa, but they wouldn't want him long term because they have a goalie in waiting right now. Again, as I have said many times, they don't need a full blow up rebuild of this team, they just need an aggressive GM who will be willing to give up some assetts (picks/prospects) to obtain some good players in return, and not overpay for mediocre FAs to turn this team around quickly Its funny how there are some being accused of over valuing Miller, when their arguement against that is how he was beaten in a glorified exhibition game in a shootout by one of the best players in the league (Crosby) in a 1-1 game, was beaten by that same player playing on a stacked favorite to win the tournament in OT of a game the the only reason his team was in it and had any chance was because of him and his play (he was named MVP of that tournament because of his play), and because he was beaten in 2 game 7's in the playoffs (The first being in the finals where his defence was beaten down with injuries and forced to play their #10 defencemen IIRC? and the other in a game where he was one of the only guys to actually show up that game for his team agains the Bruins)

Seriously, just remove hitting from the game or let it all go. Guys know how to get calls, just stand a few feet from teh boards with your back turned tot eh play, if you get touched and go into the boards you just put your team on a 5 minute powerplay! Richards Oscar worthy performance on the ice afterwards is what got the call and got Kaleta tossed, now throw in his "reputation" and here comes a long suspension for being a "repeat offender". He takes the hit and spends 2 minutess on the ice laying and writhing in pain, goes to the bench (no quiet room visit) and was back on the ice for his next shift looking fine. If the league wants to get rid of head injuries and serious injuries they need to make all hits like this require a player to go to the "Quiet Room" and sit out the rest of the game for precautions until they can be further evaluated by medical proffesionals. The NHL becomes more and more of a joke when they cry about serious injuries and Head injuries from hits like these when they make judgement calls based on the reputation of a player or what team tehy play for. Girardi hits Ennis from behind and he won't even get a call from Shanny, kaleta does that same hit and he would get called in for a suspension...........
