Again, missing the point. The point is about how a team that already consists of Crosby, Malkin, Fleury and others, can be in a position to continue to add players that have larger cap hits while a 25th placed team is talking about not being able to fit Vanek, Pominville, and Miller under their cap. I know that they have 2 of the best players in the league that help make other guys better, and the guys they are adding have expiring contracts. My point is just highlighting how a team rich in talent continues to get richer, while Darcys team is going to have to sell good parts because they won't have room to re-sign them after next year. You can say the same about others, like the Bruins who were about to add Iginla (it helped they found a sucker to help them and take thomas dead cap hit off their books), or the Ducks who can offer Perry and Getzlaf each more then what each of the 3 Sabres players make per year (and the Ducks still say they will keep Ryan too)

The Sabres Hockey Hotline with... somebody or other?

I'm still waiting for people to bring up RR throwing the players under the bus after the last game by asking the reporter to go talk to the players why they lost/looked bad out there. If LR or Miller said that, this place would be going crazy about how he is throwing them under the bus, a cancer, lost the team, etc. -
the issue isn't that the method has failed, its the failure thats doing the work that failed. We are still talking about a GM that couldn't win with one of the greatest goaltenders to ever play the game
-
Sure Crosby and malkin make almost anyone look better, but thats not the point, How can they continue to add guys with salary and fit them under the salary cap? They haven't given up anyone on their roster yet in a deal, just picks and prospects Why can't you rebuild a team with Lecavalier? He is a really good veteran player, and you can't just build a team with only youth and potential, you still need veterans. The Sens have been rebuilding, yet they have kept Alfredson and Spezza, and added other vets, not just youth.
-
exactly, Buffalos supposedly going to have a hard time keeping vanek/Pominville/Miller together, yet the Pens can add Iginla and morrow to a team that already consists of Crosby, Malkin and Fleury?
-
To be fair, he didn't trash Miller, he trashed Miller AND Enroth............
-
I couldn't believe the rants tehy were going on about getting rid of Miller cause "The league is going to cheaper goaltenders". Why, cause the Hawks are winning with Crawford and Emery? Both of those guys aren't horrible, and they happen to play on a team thats pretty stacked infront of them. Tell fans of the Leafs, Lightning, Flyers, devils, etc that you can get by with cheaper goaltending. The first 3 have been chasing goaltenders (and even with the Leafs currently in the playoffs, they still talk about it being something they would like to address and improve) and the Devils dropped pretty far when they had to go to Hedberg for a long string of games without Brodeur................... The caller/texter was right in saying trading Miller will set the franchise back (their arguement was that they are currently near teh back of the standings anyways, how can they get worse?). If they move Miller, you now have to find a replacement (unless 3 good games are all you need to see to think Enroths the answer, or that because Leggio has done well on the Ameriks, that a journeyman AHLer is the answer). So say they move Miller to Tampa, are they going to take Garon or Lindback as part of the deal and go with them? They weren't good enough for a Tampa team thats below them in the standings. Or tehy could then move more assetts to the Kings to chase after a replacement in Bernier.
-
They made their move last offseason moving Staal so that they could keep Malkin and Crosby together. No way they now move Malkin.
-
I was just thinking earlier about what kind of stupid move Regier coul now come up with and thats the move I thought of, sending Vanek to Boston who can come back to bite the Sabres in the @ss many times when they re-sign him to an extension........
-
And yet the Sabres won't be able to fit under the cap/keep Vanek/Pominville/Miller together.............

Your goalie has to be able to score goals, NJ knows this and its why their GM can make mistakes and not Darcy......... -
I don't think so either, and I don't think that DR is going to be let go either this offseason. It sounds like they know stuff needs to be done and theres something wrong, and the plan is to continue building with what they have, rather then sell for the future. You won't see them make a move at the deadline for rentals or big names, just more hockey trades similar to the Hodgson/Kassian deal last year. In the offseason I think they will make a move or 2 for a bigger name. I think they keep DR for atleast one more season, but I don't think they keep Rolston. I expect them to offer him his old job back in Rochester (if he takes it or not I can't say) then they will bring in someone new for next year

I always wondered if he was interested or looking into coaching in the futureHe was always the guy that looked like he was running or keeping the pre-game skates going passing the pucks around, and then he ran training camps for the players before Ruff was allowed to this season. Sometimes some of the best coaches are guys who played but weren't the most skilled on the ice. Maybe its because they would get alot of coaching to try and make them better players, or that they weren't on the ice as much so they got to see more ont he bench and how things would work..... -
I would Pity the GM that doesn't sign him up........
-
As long as its not to Boston or Pittsburgh I'm fine with it.I respect Iginla as a player too much to see him play with the trash in Boston, and I would be pissed to see him go to Pittsburgh to join a team with what seems to be an invisible Salary cap. I respect the Blackhawks and kings both as teams so I wouldn't mind seeing a classy player like Iginla play there and get a cup As for wanting him, I said last season that I would be all over getting hm cause he is the kind of player/leader this team needs. I wouldn't want to give up much for him now without a guarantee he signs an extension so he isn't just a rental for a non playoff season. problem is the masses here think like usual that when something is wrong, everything has to be blown up and re-started from scratch...........

For those wanting to deal Stafford for something of value, these benchings are in no way helping to see him traded............ -
but Gaustad re-signed prior to reaching UFA, so the point about getting him for only 20 games doesn't matter. They got him for the rest of the season, the playoffs and they were given time to sign him before anyone else in the league could. In this trade the Preds also received a 4th from the Sabres too, it wasn't just Gaustad for a first straight up. the preds made a deal to get a player who could help now, and in their playoff run (and have the opportunity to re-sign him before anyone else could) plus a 4th. This trade did nothing for the Sabres now, its something that they gamble on helping sometime in the future.
-
Didn't Dreger also say that the deal would probably be one to happen in the summer, not at the deadline?
-
I only used MLB cause it had been mentioned previously in here. sure KC will land a fine player, but is that player guaranteed to be any better then who the next 5 teams in the draft get? The only draft in the NFL in recent years where the #1 pick could have been argued that it was worth bottoming out for was last years to get Luck. Before that maybe the draft with Peyton Manning?
-
Could you imagine a RR/DR conversation? I bet they would get confused trying to figure out who said what. "That sounded like I said that but I don't remember actually saying those words" Good point, stupid Crosby, surprised the pens haven't waived him yet. He will be playing Beer League hockey soon......
-
But Miller is below average, or average at best! Fleury has won a cup........... thats true,Vanek/Pominville doesn't compare to Crosby/Malkin, but I would take Miller over Fleury. As for the other comparison with the Black Hawks, its hard to compare when you don't include one of their goalies in there, but obviously (well maybe not, some here on this board will disagree) that Miller over Crawford/Emery is better
-
But are Crosby, Malkin, Fleurys totatl salary comparible to Vanek, Pominville and Millers combined Salary? And those are just the top 3 guys, will anyone really debate that the rest of the Pens team isn't better then the rest of the Sabres team? Your are right about the first part though, Crappy cap management.................
-
Well, considering if they had not had the #1 pick and Luck wasn't there for them to pick, they could have just kept Peyton Manning and gone on competing for the playoffs........... True, they are older in age, but theres still no minor league system for them to go down to and develop until they are prepared to play in the Pros. Once your drafted you are either playing in the pros or sitting on a bench. You have to contribute right away, unlike MLB or NHL where you can take years to put it all together
-
So can someone explain how the Pens can have room salary cap wise to make any deal with Crosby, Malkin and Fleury on the roster, yet the Sabres can't keep Vanek, Pominville and Miller AND add to their team to upgrade? Something seems wrong here.............
