  1. NOT a rumor, but Lance wonders on twitter about Sam Lafferty, who it seemed like the Hawks were showcasing tonight by matching him up against the Matthews line all night. He's under contract for one more year, brings a lot of sandpaper to his game, and he was in Pitt when Karmanos was there. Interesting idea.
  2. I think you're right that JJP will be a better player then Rosen but i don't think it's fair to show their AHL stats. As of January 1st, Rosen has 3 goals and at the same time last season JJP had 4. JJP just went off in the second half of the season and Rosen hasn't. Last years team was better this the current one. But Rosen was hurt last year and when he wasn't he didn't play all that much. JJP came to Rochester after playing in pro leagues in Austria and Germany. Because of his thin frame, Rosen mostly plays the perimeter game.
  3. I was watching a Bruins game on espn+ not too long ago, and they said when Ullmark arrived, the Bruins goalie coach watched film on him and then had a meeting with Ullmark, telling him if he fixes his rebound control he could potentially become one of the top goalies in the league because he liked a lot of the things he was doing, however, if he doesn't, he has no chance of surviving in Boston and will be nothing more then a journey man. The broadcast crew said Ullmark really took that to heart and worked his tail off and now in his second season the results speak for themselves. Thought that was interesting. Sabres couldv'e done a better job developing him but also a lot of that relies on the player being willing to learn. Took a tough talk in Boston to really change his mindset.
  4. what a pathetic effort tonight. The team is so careless with the puck and playing extremely poor in their defensive zone.
  5. How quickly people forget pre-Granato days. It depends how far they miss out by. If they finish this season with 88 points and they finish next season with like 95 points but 4 points out i doubt they would fire him. A lot depends on roster still. They can run it back with UPL/Comrie and a defense that allows a ton of high quality chances and the fall guy will be him? Not finding better talent, getting a better goalie? Maybe replacing Marty Wilford as defensive coach? Don't think Adams would panic.
  6. They were also snubbed years ago by Justin Schultz who signed as a free agent with Edmonton. That was a huge circus after he became a free agent.
  7. And i think he's been playing at a point per game rate since returning from the WJC.
  8. Greg Wyshynski was on WGR today and they talked about this. He said while it's a situation worth keeping track of and it could really negatively impact those teams, essp since some of them depend on that money to cover it's bottom line, but said as of now the NHL isn't really worried about it and they are not in panic mode yet. fwiw
  9. Absolutely, he's excellent. It's refreshing listening. He's not one to be some kind of insider or newsbreaker, but he really knows how to find data and how it translates to the sport. I believe Jeremy thinks of himself as someone who also wants to be on the modern-thinking spectrum too, but doesn't always know how to get the data. Like when they talk hockey rumors, Joe quickly brings up zone entries, puck retrieval, possession and shooting % from high quality spots. I will also miss him. Even prior to WGR, from Empire sports and WNSA. The sharpshooters was the best show imaginable with Mike Robitaille and Jim Kelley. My best memory of Howard however will be the time period when the Sabres were supposedly on the move. I was in college at the time and didn't have class til like 9 or 10am, but each day i'd wake up at 6am to listen to their show for any latest information. This was before social media as it is today, there was a lot of rumors, but he did a great job back then staying calm and informative and finding out the latest information. Felt like i went through those dark days in Sabres history with Howard.
  10. Just gotta keep Zegras in check. That dude seems to feast on the Sabres.
  11. Wonder if he'd change his mind if the Ducks win the lottery
  12. As much as i dislike MSG for Sabres coverage, it seems like we're pretty lucky right now in terms of local broadcasts. This seems like a headache. I watch the nhl almost nightly on espn+ and i gotta say the bally sports broadcasts are by far the worst. Not surprised they are having issues because i assume their mlb and nba broadcasts are just as poor in quality.
  13. Fwiw, i've seen McCabe mentioned several times with Toronto.
  14. The one thing that could have kept his job was fighting and he never fought this season not one single time.
  15. Right, and even further on this, they are basically on the same career path. Next season, realistically, both of them are penciled in for the AHL. I don't think he wants to be stuck next year behind Levi in the AHL and on top of that have a 24-year old on a one way contract in already in Buffalo. Unless something drastic happens, the only way for Portillo to get a solid run of games next season in the Sabres organization would be in Cincinnati. And i doubt he cares much for that.
  16. Last year when Seattle came to Buffalo it was when they were playing the worst hockey. Sabres lost 7 in a row that period and 13 out of 15. But this Sabres team can compete against anyone i think.
  17. Carter Hart played tonight and got lit up by the Leafs 6-2, so Samuel Ersson is expected to play tomorrow. He's actually won his last 3 starts, stopping 80 out of 86 shots in the 3 games. Also, with this being that weird make up game (Tampa moved to Saturday in March and this moved from March to tomorrow) i would imagine tomorrow will be the smallest crowd of the season.
  18. Pardon? Where was this reported? And how's nobody talking about this... ? lol
  19. I was there and yeah it was a great time. Very festive. What sucks for this team is they don't get to experience that too often and the game before the Christmas break (night 1 of the storm) was also going to be a sold out arena vs Tampa. If not for this massive storm we would've gotten this type of crowd back to back home games. Next one will probably be Ryan Miller night.
