  1. I know that I am in the minority on this, but I wonder how the young players and draft picks would have developed over time instead of using these assets in the trades that were made.  Clearly, some players needed a change, including Stafford and Grigorenko, but I continue to believe that we overpaid in some of our trades, particularly for Lehner.  I understand that O'Reilly and Kane are quality players, but it seems that the trading of a significant portion of our assets has left us with a weak defense with few options in free agency.  Of course we could make more trades to upgrade the defense, but do we really want to use our remaining assets to do so?

The rebuild has been painful, and fans of the Sabres should not be happy about the last few years, but I was willing to be patient for a bit longer.

You want quality assets you need to give quality assets.

Buffalo does not have the patience to wait 5 more years for all that young talent to possibly develop. If the Sabres were to take that route the majority of fans would of revolted.

At this point we are dwindling on assets, but if the goal is to start winning now then there is little reason to wait.

  2. Sorry friend the Grateful Dead ceased to exist after 8 9 95. You saw 4 greedy old men driven by Jill Lesh. Also Earnie can't shine Jerry's shoes

    ROTFLMAO

nothing could be further from the truth. Tickets for these shows were still cheaper than the majority of big name acts playing these sized venues. Hell even the stones were charging more for their tickets, and everyone who went to the stones says it was a great time and worth the price. The last 4 members have been playing shows ever since Jerry passed, what could possibly be wrong with them recapturing that on their 50 year anniversary???  Man that is hilarious, those 3 shows were FANTASTIC. still have goosebumps from them. I saw more than 80 shows pre-95, and the 3 in Chicago last weekend are up there with my favorite Dead shows ever. The whole weekend surpassed my expectations and I would gladly see that band play again

but you've made up your mind so the debate would be useless. and I can tell you the more than 70K who were attending that show and most all that streamed those shows will tell you it was worth every single penny

let me guess you are one of those Trey haters that just needs to whine about something.

If you are even a fan I strongly suggest you watch the shows the music was fantastic, and that is the only thing it was about.

  3. Just got back from Chicago for the last 3 Grateful Dead Concerts. Pretty amazing weekend. So many friends made the trip, and we broke the attendance record for Soldier field 3x's.  Musically is was fantastic, Chicago was very laid back in regards to fans. Parking lots were a huge party and the streets of Chicago near the arena were going strong till daylight every night after the shows.

Trey filled is quite admirably at guitar.. I left wanting more...  "They're a band beyond description, like Jehovah's favorite choir, people joining hand hand, while the music plays the band, they're setting us on fire"

There is lots of good music to be found out there

If you like bluegrass instrumentation with an edge youtube railroad earth

  4. Something Murray said while talking about the Lehner deal helped me to soften up on my reaction to it; he said that every player in the league has had

that kind of injury at some point.  I figure that's probably more true than hyperbole.

I'm guilty of looking at some of these moves in a vacuum at first, but I'd like to think I can be reasonable enough to look at the big picture.  After I took some time to absorb the Lehner trade, and after hearing Murray talk about it, I'm good with it and believe it makes a lot of sense.  I decided not to react to the O'Reilly deal until I had some time to absorb it.

Upon further reading, taking into account the details of the trade, and taking into account the opinions and viewpoints of those (here) whose hockey-think I respect, I like the move.

And then, again, stepping back and surveying the big picture, Murray's vision is becoming crystal clear and I really, really dig it.  Each move, on its own, is a potential head-scratcher or cause for consternation on the surface, but after digging into the details, and looking at the moves together in context, I agree that there is absolutely nothing here to complain about.  Indeed, I am in awe, for the most part.

Add a good UFA D man and this team looks poised to way surpass the projections saying a 20 point increase would be an improvement. I feel they could contend for a wildcard slot, if not better.  And I believe that the vision is large enough and bold enough to make them Stanely Cup contenders.  How can anyone complain about that?

that is the most well written recant I have ever read on a sports forum

  5. OK -- let's keep track of this one (trading the draft pick, not making the playoffs, which I expect we'll be tracking anyway).  Bragging rights at stake here.

Right on.. I'm just an optimist and I like what the Sabres have on paper with Kane and Bogosian and now Lehner added. Add a 2 way player like RoR to this mix and what is not to like. Thats a team ready to make a significant step up IMO

  6. I don't think the Sabres will pick that high next year either, but it's certainly possible, and 6-10 is reasonably likely.  Either way, I don't think GMTM will trade next year's #1.  (Of course, WTH do I know?)

I think we will  be a surprise team and we will squeak in the playoffs.  And I do think next years 1st is completely on the table for the right player.

If RoR can be had then next years 1st is most definitely in play IMO, better next years 1st then another prime piece that is already in our system and ready to contribute this year

  7. As in (Risto or Zemgus) plus (Zadorov or Pysyk) plus (Griggy or McCabe).

FWIW, I don't think GMTM will give up next year's #1 because he knows there's a real chance that it's a top-5 pick.

No way we pick top 5 next year IMO.  and even if we did what are we going to do with that pick.. We would be better off with RoR as the team will be hitting its stride and established players would be more useful

  8. No, they weren't.  He made a choice to do that.  Remember "Suffering"?

Of course, the Sabres got cold feet and decided to fire everyone and hire old fan favorites (Ted Nolan and Pat LaFontaine) to fix things right away but it's not like sucking wasn't the plan.

So far Murray's two best moves are drafting Reinhart and Eichel -- the two critical parts of Regier's plan.

Evander Kane and Bogosian don't factor in ?

Your clouded hate for TM is affecting your ability to reason

His ability to trade away a guy like Moulson and get him back for nothign doesn't figure in ?

He made great moves loading us up with more top draft picks as well, and he is using those assets to bring the team out of the cellar sooner that later. I'm more excited for Sabres hockey future than I have been in awhile

  9. Darcy did build the best Sabres team of all-time though.  And we know his plan was to draft 1-2 overall in 2014 and 2015 (i.e. "Suffering") so it's likely we'd have Reinhart and Eichel even if he'd never been fired.  We don't know what moves he would eventually try to make to build around them but presumably it would not have been just to keep all of his prospects.

Reiger is long gone and good riddance.

MUCH MUCH MUCH prefer Tim Murray at the helm

  10. But he didn't win the shiny trophy until he had a 7 or 8 HOFer's in front of him.  I don't overvalue the goalie position and tend to undervalue it.  I certainly would not pay what Murray paid to a division rival to lessen their cap burden, give them the 18 and now 21 picks and allow them to lock up the rest of their young talent.  Lack would have been sufficient at the cost of #51.

he was the ONLY reason Buffalo went to the cup that one year.

Its not Haseks fault our previous owner was too cheap to surround him with more talent

Yes you use a 1st rd pick on a Hasek, and you don't bat an eye..

The more I see people complain the better I love this trade.

  11. My esteem for TM is eroding rapidly.  This is a horrible trade even if Lehner is the next Hasek.  It shows poor understanding of the market and a gross overpayment for a position that we could address in FA.  This is the first instance where I am beginning to see the foundation of the Murray is planning to take the Sens job talk.  Hate this to the point of ruining my Eichel Day.

you cannot possibly be serious with this comment

he mostly likely he is not but if someone offers you a Hasek clone you give up multiple 1st rd picks. The guy won games by himself

All this being said. Love the complete over reaction by the armchair fans. We are stocked with prospects and the #21 pick was used to get us a real starting goaltender. Whine all you want about it but it was a solid move and I'm sure there are more to come

  12. This is what someone posted in response to a Buffalo News article "Eichel says he is the best player."

"Eichel and the Sabres deserve each other. Both immature and dilusional. While both are exceptional players McD's 2.55 ppg is in a universe far beyond Eichel's 1.77. How can anyone expect excellence from this organization?"

Have to call bs on that one. Even Dan Marr, central scouting director, has said "it's a fine line" between the two. He did give the edge to McDvid, which is how most people feel, but there is very little difference.

My response to the post above was rather "polite." Simply gave him the fact it is difficult to compare the OHL and NCAA. More or less told the guy it's like trying to compare apples and oranges. OHL has more high potential talent, but it's still made up of 'kids.' The NCAA is made up of young men. Players are bigger, faster and stronger. Disadvantage in the NCAA's is the lower amount of  high potential talent. Main point is you cannot compare stats to decide who is better. Claiming McDavid is 'in a universe far beyond Eichel' is a debate you cannot win. Simply not true.

I posted a few LOL's to that poster.. I was not so polite
