  1. Murray said he had multiple offers for Ehrhoff, so that last part is just false. The potential recapture penalty scared Murray enough to not take the offers. It really is that simple.

Yes and those offers did nothing to offset the penalties that could of came down the road. It is that simple.. WRAP YOUR HEAD AROUND IT. Nobody was offering enough or what it would take to offset that potential penalty.

Murray rahter have the cap space in the future guaranteed. I have no issues with that because we have a plenty of assets in our system and plenty of firepower to add more in the short term

  2. If Darcy Regier had bought out Ehrhoff and received nothing in return for an asset, this board would be ablaze with comments ripping Regier for mismanaging an important asset. However, if Tim Murray mismanages an important asset, he is praised as a conquering hero!

Enjoy your honeymoon Mr. Murray. Someday the jackals will be at your door.

No Murray is just mopping up Reiger's messes....

nothing mis-managed by Murray.. just dealing with the what he was dealt. Obviously nobody wanted Ehrhoff with the contract Darcy gave him

  3. I really want Reinhart. He was the best player on the ice at the prospects game. Made the players around him better. So if the Canucks pull off a deal to get Reinhart at 1 do you take Ekblad or try to get Edmonton to unload something and flip flop spots with Edmonton and take Bennett.

You take Ekblad and you only trade the pick if Edmonton or Calgary completely overpay. But if that was the case Florida would of made the trade already.

  4. Well if Murray could swing it, I would love to see him trade with EDM to get #3 straight up. Maybe Myers for #3 and ? Hard to say what could or could not happen on draft day. If that did happen, I wouldn't mind seeing either the other Sam or Leon in blue n gold.

this is my fantasy draft. Reinahrt (@#2) is the play-maker, and Draisaitl (@#3) is the immovable big man that sets up the screens works the offensive boards and knocks in those rebounds

We have Plenty of ammunition but would a team like Edmonton, that is pretty much not ready to compete, want to give up their high draft pick. I think they would be smart to do what the Sabres are doing. Blow it up, tank, and rebuild.

We have Ehrhoff Stewart Meyers Stafford and 2nd round picks to dangle. If a deal can be done ahead of the draft and we can land a pick in in the teens or higher we might have a chance to repackage that pick and move up some more.

  5. Two problems: We may not be sure we have St Louis' 1st by June 1st when NYI needs to decide, and we'll look pretty silly if we give away a 1st round pick just to have the Islanders turn out to be terrible next year.

If St Louis in in the Conference finals we get the 1st. That should happen before June 1

    OR

if Miller signs a long term deal

  6. Just so everyone's clear that our best chance at McDavid is less than 50 percent.

And that's if the islanders defer and, with Buffalo, finish as the worst two teams in the league.

It's more likely to be less than 20 percent.

There are many excellent players at the top end next year. Hopefully we get one of them.

excellent !!! then we simply must lose to ensure us the highest percentage probability

  7. We've acquired 16 1st/2nd round picks from the 2013 (last year) to 2015 drafts! ...and we're interested in getting more?! Stockpiling high draft picks is great, but there has to be a satiation point.

I can only hope that the plan is to bundle lower picks to move up in these next two drafts.

Don't forget in 2-4 years when we need to bring in some experienced talent to further our push for a Stanley Cup other teams will be tanking and we will have a pipeline of prospects to trade

  8. Kinda disappointed to hear about Moulson. Here's a 25+ goal scorer and solid citizen who is interested in staying, and the Sabres aren't interested? Why? Because they'd rather have a pick or a prospect who might, but probably won't, be as good as Moulson in 3-5 years?

Also, Brooksie is slightly more credible than Garrioch, but only slightly.

I would rather have a pick and a prospect because this team won't be going to the playoffs for another season or 2 and Moulson will be on the downside when we finally do.

I want ot see this team stick with the plan they started. Tank and load up and then revisit UFA's and trades when the teams youth is coming up and making an impact

It would be massively dissapointing to see this team just trying to make the playoffs instead of building a true championship worthy team

  9. One would be enough to screw us in the draft. I pray it waits until 2016.

They have the investors and Key Arena is a capable temporary home. That won't be an issue.

Maybe you haven't been following it all as closely as me (because, having been to Seattle, that place would love hockey), but there are already reports that an announcement on their expansion team is due soon (as in by the end of this season) as they are close to deciding between multiple investors.

Key Arena is very small and would require the loss of seats to make it NHL rink size.. It would be by far the smallest venue in the NHL

    15,177 for ice hockey games

""The sightlines, however, benefitted the SuperSonics at the expense of the junior Thunderbirds, with a scoreboard that was significantly off-center in a hockey configuration, hanging over one blue line instead of the center-ice faceoff circle."""

  10. In the sportsnet radio interview, TM says he's pretty confident he can improve the bottom six or bottom nine from within the organization and through free agency, but he said the first-line guys have to come from the draft.

Ya build through the draft, and in the NHL the only chance you have at offensive studs is to have the #1 pick.. Just ask Pittsburgh

And no other NHL team is going to trade away there very top prospects. You're going to get lots of upside guys but you're not picking up a 100 points a year guy or a 50+ goals a season player, which is what this franchise desperately lacks

That is why the tank is on. No way does this team compete for the playoffs next year without sacrificing the plan they are on now. Too much youth on the roster, and even with the vets we have now they still aren't capable of winning regulalry

  11. Even if we finish last next year we might be 2-3 years off the playoffs. Don't underestimate McDavid.

But we've gotten this far. We'd be dumb to push for a fifth or sixth pick. Just suck. It's been too long since a Buffalo sports franchise had a true superstar.

I agree.. the thought that this Sabres team will even be in the conversation regarding playoffs in 2014-2015 makes me chuckle.. This team will be ready for playoffs only when all there prospects mature to the point they are capable of winning on their own.. Then the UFA and trading other prospects for top players could put us over the top.

BUT IT IS NOT HAPPENING NEXT YEAR... We have another year of serious pain at minimum.... the only joy will be watching prospects develop with the occasional ellipse of what could be

  12. My concern is if we continue to win and end up in 2nd and lose the lottery, thus drafting 3rd. Now there's a good chance Edmonton is ahead of us and if they are they will likely take Ekblad. But if we pick 3rd and both Sam's go 1 and 2 I would seriously give a lot more thought to take Ek over someone like LD or Dal Colle. I would also be trying to trade up a spot or 2 if we end up in 3rd but if we can't then I I'm not sure which way to lean. Probably Dal Colle but I'd be OK with going Ek in that spot and try moving one of our young D.

Once the trade deadline comes most of the players that can keep us winning these meaningless games will most likely be gone and we will fulfill the tank

  13. It may very well be my imagination, but it seems like the Sabres' basket has been full of promising young players for a long time. "Darcy drafts well." What happens to these guys? Maybe it's different this time, but I think the powers that be like to hold the brass ring just out of reach of us — and we keep reaching.

our drafts where weak with Reiger. Lots of undersized forwards and never any real scoring prowess.

He made the occasional splash trade but overall his vision for a championship team never really produced, and the time when it did we had to get rid of some of the players that took us there, but those players were not drafted.. players like Breire and Drury

that being said our recent pipeline has improved but it was too late for Reiger, and I don;t think any of us trusted him to be able to complete the transition properly

  14. By the time this team is ready to compete again Millers days in the league will be numebred. There are some solid goaltending prospects in the Sabres system.. but Enroth just isn't #1 material...

Ya have to trade Miller and maintain the rebuild IMO. Way to late to turn back now.

Your also not going to bring in any top FA's with this team... So until the youth they've brought in starts to show promise and the Sabres are a playoff team with the youth movement in place... going fishing for high profile players is a waste of time.

Hopefully Miller can be traded for solid youth assets or picks or both to a team who is trying to win it all now and willing ot part with those assets for that chance.

  15. Well, if anything, this shows the Sabres have written off this season, and likely next as well. Also, no accountability for Regier for the absolutely dreadful product we're seeing out there right now.

Pegula is completley on board with this rebuild... so No Reiger is not being held accountable for this otherwise Pegula woulf of fired him bvefore the rebuild

  16. I haver to laugh.. After last years fire sale I find it funny that any Sabres fan wouldn't be talking 2014 draft. Are there really a few of you who expected this extremely young team to win ?

It was beyond obvious we were in full rebuild mode... I'm just hoping we don;'t do something real stupid like win to many games and not get the 1st pick overall

The Vanek trade was a decent trade, 2 high draft picks and a temporary replacement player..........Miller is next.
