Why are there gladiators sitting behind the Sabres bench? Guerilla movie marketing? -

I liked seeing us pressuring the Kings. -

I was going to say you didn't get my meaning. But after thinking about it, you're 100% correct. 👍 -
I would like to politely bow out of any further discussion on this matter. We will not agree. I just want to follow my team and cheer for success.

What you are doing is focusing only on the negatives to support your premise. Again, he has two successful franchises.

So there's an even chance for an outcome that makes people happy, whatever that outcome may be. -
Would you be happy if Pegula sold the team?

Some people need to keep the razors away from their noses. -
Exactly. Thanks for getting that. But as I mentioned in another response, if the Bills and Bandits are so successful, is that not a reflection of ownership too? That's good advice.

Obviously because one team is a champion contender and the other team is struggling to break a playoff drought. Ironically that same champion caliber team had it's own 17-year drought that seemed equally as hopeless, that ended under Terry's ownership. I'm glad you used this example. If a team's success is such a direct reflection of the owner, then Terry must be a great owner, right? He already owns a twice-champion lacrosse team. (Did I just hear heads explode?) Oh right, we have an accepted narrative to explain that incongruity. 🤣

I imagine this reading your post. -
We need to pick a lane. Is it A) No one wants to play here, or B) Adams is not spending money on players? I'm reading both and no one notices the conflict. Even when we were good, there is resistance to players signing here for two reasons, maybe three. 1 & 2) the local weather and the impression Buffalo is a dull place to live, and 3) New York State income taxes. Being in a 13 year playoff drought makes it worse. So when I read that Adams is somehow choosing to not spend on players, even though it was reported that Adams actively sought players like Ehlers and Necas, that seems to ignore the narrative that our reputation keeps anyone from signing here. Of course there's always the "well, just pay 'em more" response that is supposed to magically make the other problems go away. That ignores that cap space is finite and overpaying means you won't have money for signing your own players. It also ignores the mindset of anyone who puts money above any other reason to sign. If a player can be swayed by a big payday, is he the kind of player that is actually going to contribute to making the team better. Taylor Hall is the most recent player who did the bare minimum while collecting $8MM from the Sabres. Then actually hurt the team at the trade deadline by limiting what Adams could get for him by forcing a trade to one team. The Bills are an example of a team that values character. I think Adams is trying to follow the same path, but it's harder when you are trying to climb out of a pit. But we have a roster with talent, led by one of the most experienced coaches in league. Let's show a little patience and not flip out after every loss.

You are not providing anything but outcomes that you assign directly to Terry. There is no decision about A that results in B. Just "Attendance is down!! Blame Terry!!" But I get why my contrarian behavior irks you. This entire site is devoted to stories we repeat over and over and take as gospel.

Yes. If tropes are what you go by. "The buck stops here." Mystery solved.
-
Yup. The Sabres have hockey superstars lining up to play here and Kev keeps saying "nah, we good." 😂

I'm being asked for an opinion of ownership without knowing what Terry contributes to team operations. Is he a meddling micro-manager? Is he just an observer, listening to what Adams tells him? I don't know. I'm not there watching him. So how can I pass judgement? His record is obvious but not indicative of his role in it, beyond the hiring of GM's. And we've already established most team owners are just lucky/unlucky with hires.

No GM/coach/scout is perfect. You'll never find a regime that never whiffed on a player. Who are these misses? Elam, maybe? For every miss they hit on 4 or 5.

Everyone is pretty good at coming up with their own fantasies. You don't need mine.

Give me a break! Josh Allen didn't wander in off the street. Brandon Beane had to "Draft Day" his way to the #7 pick to get Allen, when everyone and their mother said Josh was a stiff and we should take Josh Rosen. And the popular opinion going into this season was the Bills were "in transition" and might not even make the playoffs. Look where we are now. To downplay what Beane and McDermott have done with the Bills is laughable if it wasn't so pathetic.
-
That depends. Do you want me to base that opinion on what I know or what I can imagine?
-
I'm sure Terry was informed but I think it was Adams. And most of the "black eye" was generated by Eichel's management, pumping out info to friendly media to pressure the Sabres. It's not the popular take but the Sabres were 100% right not to cave to Eichel.. He already said he wanted out. Then he expected the Sabres to assume all the risk of his surgery? Another unpopular take: Adams did a great job with the Eichel trade while the hockey world second-guessed him every step of the way. The pressure to "just move on" and "get whatever" for Eichel was intense. (That was certainly the belief of 90% of posters here.) But he held his cards until a team paid proper value. Adams has been through the wringer and still manages to maintain his poise. And he doesn't get any credit for his player decisions. Waiting for UPL to click, picking Benson when everyone said Rossi, trading up for JJ Peterka, signing Zucker, trading for McLeod, etc. If the Sabres are that unbearable, I challenge anyone who feels that way to shut the team off. Don't watch, don't go to games, don't follow them because you already know that will disappoint you, right?

The finding-a-hockey-version-of-Rex-Ryan strategy.

This. Buffalo was never the easiest place to get players to sign and the drought doesn't help. So Adams is trying to build through the draft, which takes longer. I like most of Adam's picks. Granato got the team moving in the right direction. Now I'm hoping Ruff completes the job. I see progress but they have to be consistent. Injuries keep setting us back.

You're take on what Terry is doing.
