Let's argue the other side of the coin. What does Lindy Ruff add to the Sabres in a POHO role? Experience? Okay. Does that experience sync with the analytics-driven Karmanos Sabres? There is nothing I'm seeing with the Sabres trajectory that I feel Ruff advances. In fact I would fear falling back into old thinking. Hiring Ruff is a feel good nostalgia move. Don't fix what ain't broke.

I'm of a mind to let Craig retire happily to Florida. He was a great teammate and played well enough. But I don't think he can keep it up another year.

Not sure if that's true for the entire fan base. Shiny new things get old quickly. I live near Boston and go to TD Garden a lot. Lovely building with lots of amenities, but pretty much everything, from tickets to hot dogs, cost twice what they do in Buffalo. Of course Boston is a wealthy market full of corporations that spend on entertainment. Buffalo wants nice, but keep it affordable. More regular fans than companies buying suites and tickets as write-offs.
