  1. Appreciate the kind words guys.

I was annoyed by the Drane comparisons when they happened, and annoyed by the overall "aha! I'm so clever for figuring it out" attitude to them but I also get why they happen. He was vocal on the Pegula stuff and I'm like a mosquito to a flame when it comes to questioning the true motives of billionaires. I agree that we think alike.

I wasn't chased off as much as I've become disillusioned by sports lately. If I told you what I really think about sports, people would skip past the tin foil hat memes and send me straight to the loony bin. But that's how it is. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't banging my head against the keyboard with the Evander Kane/racist stuff. And I criticized Eichel about a month too soon apparently. Fans weren't ready for reality yet.

I do believe there are some very shady conflicts of interests on this board as well as TBD so that makes me hesitate to post many of the things I'd like to. But I haven't yet given up on the NHL like I have with the NFL so I'll be around every so often, just maybe not as often as before.

Sorry to get you profiled. Your hunches are with good reason. Heck, I've only been allowed to post 150 days out of the last calender year, yet legal professionals are posting that Patty Kane was drilling in the wrong hole for brown gold. I guess that's ok.....but who am I?

Don't be a stranger. It's always nice to sit in the waiting room of the VA with another who went through the .

  2. Observations and thoughts like this are why I can't quit you, Ghost. And why I don't want you to quit on us.

And yes: I am sorry to have offended you, as I apparently did. No offense was ever intended, but was evidently imparted.

I'm sorry for calling you a dipshit.

I love how that isn't filtered.

I was just more disappointed that someone I respect thought I would hide under the cover of something else. And musichunch is a neat poster. He may think like me in some regards, so I understand in a vacuum why you would compare.

    Nice.

Whens the last time anybody saw Ovechkin in the dirty areas?

I remember him challenging Drury to a fight after he sent Briere into the boards but to quote OV, "I know I was wrong but he was a chicken and wouldn't accept my offer."

  3. When did Disco say this? That's been my biggest issue with Jack so far. If he can learn to be less passive and go to these areas, well, he's got the physical ability to be dominant doing so. Hope Dan can tap into that.

He hasn't called anyone out by name, but multiple times in press conferences he has said guys aren't going to the net and willing to take punishment. That makes me happy.

  4. ^ You can't disappear until you do a summary of DD's start, as you see it.

In all seriousness, Bylsma is so sharp, it's going to take a while to let these guys figure it out.

I love the guy. The only thing I'm sceptical about is the focus on positive Corsi and all that BS.

Has anyone seen Eichel score a goal in the dirty area? 7 of 8 were 30 feet out. Sure, many were pretty, but he is not willing to play the real game. Audette, Briere, Dumont....snipers who were skill players but willing to camp out. Eichel wasn't shy about putting out youtube videos of him squatting a Volkswagon....so, where is that on the ice? Bylsma finds it lacking so I am encouraged we will get it long term.

  5. FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT.

No need to get all exercised, dude.

I heard the same voice. The fact that you're telling me brief research would've validated whatever point 'hunch was making tends to reinforce my ... hunch.

    No matter.

As for why I didn't PM you? I was just having a bit of fun. Which is what this board is. For me. Christ. There's real sh1t -- plenty of it -- for me to get exercised about. Stuff around here doesn't nearly qualify.

I'm not sure what your point about Gary is/was. The metaphor was just ... icky. Like I said.

    Be well, Ghost.

Good luck to you as well.

  6. If 'hunch wasn't you, I'll eat my hat.

And I ain't funny (or heavy), I'm your brother.

The rejoinder of FFS is not unfair there. Sounds like I'm ball washing the whitewasher a bit, eh?

Never fear. My skeptic's mind is never far away.

The Gary parable was unbidden and icky.

You really want to eat it you dipshit?

30 seconds of research and you could understand where that guy is coming from.

The question becomes, why didn't you come to me in private? I think I know the answer.

    Now You Funny Too.....

And the Gary wrant was just a friendly reminder to the TRUE FANS who EMBRACED THE TANK, what they really are.

  7. I have it in good authority that Bettman absolutely loves the Pegulas.

I'm not saying he's more fond of Mrs. Pegula than I am, but maybe he's getting there. Maybe.

More seriously, Bettman apparently flipped his sh!t when he saw the completed Harbor Center, and thinks the league needs a few more Pegula families in it in order to progress.

Which is to say, if the Sabres want the 2018 New Years Day game, I bet they get it.

    Oh FFS.....

On a side note, you may want to do 30 seconds worth of research before you chase off a quality poster like musichunch by claiming he is me.

To quote George Thorogood...."Now you funny too".....

  8. I'll cry uncle.

Please let us turn the page on that night and season.

"Awww....baby....you know I did it all for you honey? I mean....you had the surgery, and had to go through all those treatments. ...a woman has needs you know.

Gary next door is such a nice guy. I only did it to save our marriage. He was tender. It felt so natural.....ummmmm.....Gary.....umhh....that's it right there......yes.....thank you for doing this....oh...oh.....my husband should be normal in a year or two......ohhh...oh god.....yes.....ummmm Gary...please....right there....don't stop....oh...Gary....yes..please...yes....oh.....oh.....mmmmmmmmmm"

So you see baby.....I did it all for you!

  9. He gets the toughest minutes.

Faulting him for being on the ice for a breakaway? Worrying about + -?

I was really hoping you would have more in your return to being the only one on the board who doesn't think he'll be a franchise defenseman.

    I'll be honest.

I don't feel good posting again.

    Sorry to disappoint.

    Ristolainin, IS, your franchise defenseman.

    Enjoy.

  10. Risto had a play yesterday I haven't seen a Sabre do in years.

He caught up to a guy on the breakaway and used his reach to lift the stick from behind.

There is nothing pedestrian about that.

    That dropped my jaw.

    it was beautiful.

Could you give me the reason why Ristolainen was on the ice for a breakaway against, seeing he is the worst minus on the backend?

    Thank you

  11. How long have we watched Sabres D men shoot the puck at the opposing players feet? If he has to break dance a little to get shots all the way through to the goalie (something he is really good at), then, so be it.

He's really good. He's really young. I like him and think if he played the same game but was Canadian and had a dark scruffy beard Ghost would like him, too.

    No

He sits at the corner of his own net and is not decisive in taking a position. Bogosian, Gorges, Weber....they take a stand. Ristolainen sits there. Not a sound position to disrupt, but out of passiveness.

We once traded Turgeon and Krupp for LaFontaine.....

    Redux 2019?

  12. Some skewing of #s there, I think, but it's good to pump the brakes a bit. I also enjoy the personal vanity digs. I don't begrudge him that -- euros, man.

Also noticed the shout-out to Weber. Have you been a Weber guy, lo, these many years? I forget.

The last piece is spot on, I think. I don't think Risto projects as a #1 monster type. I'm not even sure how many teams have that guy anymore. But I think the set-up you envision is an attainable one.

I am a Weber supporter in that I was disgusted the "fans" made him the devil for actually wanting to win last year and being upset that they booed their own team for winning a home game.

Also, what led me to post in the Yeichel thread was in the Tampa game thread, not 1 person said anything positive about Weber but 6 had vulgarities towards him and wanted him off the team. In that same thread, 20 people felt the need to praise and celebrate Eichel's goal.

Not 1 person pointed out that Weber was the one who fed Eichel with a 70 foot tape to tape outlet pass that led to the goal. To top it off Weber did it again 2 shifts later to spring a 2 on 1, but Eichel f'd up the entry and turned it over.

That game thread made me look up actual stats and that's when I noticed Ristolainen had 1 more even strength point than Weber, and that he and Eichel were in the bottom 10 in +/- for the entire league.

Bottom line, don't tell me salmon is lobster....and don't tell me chuck roast is a turd.

  13. GoDD, you and I have disagreed on Risto's game pretty much since he arrived.

You've always seen a softness that I just don't see. I see him shrugging off guys and clearing the zone.

The kid is no Myers. He's competitive, he'll push first and wants the puck when it's crunch time.

Smell is right saying its long season, and that's why the thread title has a question mark.

But I think your first impression is blinding you to what's happening on the ice.

So far this year 55 has played like a #1

I do like my defenceman hairier, I'll give you that.

And the board misses your informed contrarianism (really appreciate the jab at eichel)

Hope you get the love back soon.

    Way too much Ehrhoff.

He sits 8 feet to the side of the net and breakdances like he's auditioning for a Spike Lee joint while guys fly in and camp out in front or control it in the corner.

He isn't a wuss, but the guy is 6'5" 215 and should have a little physical confidence.

I am not disappointed in his game. I just think you have nice turf stakes horse and not a Kentucky Derby winner

  14. Gionta creates speed through the neutral zone. He's a terrrific player in transition. He really is.

I think you could question his PP minutes - fairly - but really, watch how many times the guy wins the zone.

And he doesn't take penalties. (last night the exception).

I would suggest people watch the video I posted in the original Bylsma thread which was locked by the moderators so I can't show you.

He sets up multiple systems for different games and will run misdirection as well to confuse an opponent. Problem is, unless you are a sharp lad, you may find yourself lacking in his system. It's funny watching Girgensons go from untouchable by 97% of the board to tradable in a matter of 25 games. Our buddy is still the same player. He just might take a bit longer to catch on.

Guys like Gionta and O'Riley are going to be leaned on until then. Heck, Weber was getting minutes at first for the same.

I think Bylsma sees something in Deslauries. He put him in every situation a few weeks in and then sat him. Maybe he will be the long term 3rd liner who can go both ways and put in 10~15 goals while dropping the gloves. Him and Legwand have been a fun match so far.

  15. He's just pointing out the Rasmus' game still needs to develop a bit before we can start calling him elite or anything.

Now that Eichel is ranked on the Sabres' scoresheet pretty much where Ted Cruz is for president, I've been patiently awaiting the fine soaps, oils, linens and servants, to show up at the Swedish waistline next.

I'm a little surprised by the thread starter, and again, like Eichel, Ristolainen is talented and may very well be a true star down the line if he loses the hair gel and stops shaving his chest...but for now, here are the facts.

Mike Weber has 1 less even strength point than Ristolainen in the games they played together before he got hurt.

If you projected Franson with as much ice time as Ristolainen, he has almost the exact same stat line.

Ristolainen was in the bottom 10 in +/- for the entire league for a good stretch of the season.

He's big, he has a great shot, and he is a smooth skater. I have more hope for him than Myers at similar points. He's still a Euro in his own zone for the most part.

Once Bogosian is full speed it will be interesting. I think this team is probably going to need another top 3 dman who is physical and has skill. There is not a true #1 here, but you could roll 6 guys who are 2s thru 4s if you get 1 more guy.

  16. This thread is the heart of the matter of it all.

Great stories of childhood. I notice a lot of my favorites here chiming in.

There are questions to be asked.

How much passion for the game now from older fans is actual passion for the current product in general and team, and how much is out of habit and trying to recapture the buzz of an innocent youth?

I agree with pi and neo et al. There is no physical passion from players anymore. Fighting is gone. Guys are getting paid and have gone through 2 or 3 labor strikes together. The rules have gone soft with no red line, automatic icing, the instigator rule, leaving the bench, etc. I see few true rivalries.

The Sabres themselves have been a joke for a decade. Run to make a profit last group and with a self-serving weasel as the architect, bringing in a team full of marshmallows.

I can understand blind fandom from the 20 something and under crowd. Some are historians but many know no better.

This thread reminds me of my sanity.

Without the unique ability to hold your rival accountable on the ice through physical play, the nhl is no different than indoor soccer. Ut just costs 10x as much for a ticket.

  17. My niece from up North happens to be in her first semester in a college an hour from me. Due to my brother's divorce and her mother's disapproval of anyone from my family I haven't seen her in seven years. Now she's grown and making her own decisions and chose to spend the holiday and weekend with my wife and I. She is a great kid and I love her dearly. I am VERY thankful that she is spending this time with us.

    Winner winner turkey dinner.

    Happy thanksgiving to everyone.

Thanks for letting me opine over the years.

Thank you as well for introducing me to such superstars as Ellie, Pappy, Kirby, and Luca.

And for sharing tribulations of best intentions like unstable exchange students, Zhitnik defecting to the promised land, girlfriends gone bad, and soulmates in peril.

I'm gonna go eat a turkey ass now...
