  1. As one of those people who told Gionta to drag his skate, like every coach has since he was in peewee, I'll point out that we all complimented the game has had aside from that play tonight.

There was no reason to drag his skate. Gionta and Kane waited on Eichel who had the momentum.

You drag when you are faster or the same speed. They almost stopped to let Eichel go full speed. Eichel doesn't get cute, they are half a stride onside.

The odds of a goal there are 1000~1 anyway. I'm with the dozen and a half who say replay sucks and it ruins the spirit of the game. I'm not going to sit around and watch a smart vet get piled on because the flavor de jour got cutesy again.

  2. And every night on the NHL network you see 10 + highlights where a player drags his skate to stay onside. Everyone knows how it works except Gionta and you.

    With 8 seconds left?

I see 1000 huddles every week in the NFL, but when my team does it down by 8 at their own 25 with 90 seconds left. ...I'm going to call out the coaches and qb for being morons.....

  3. I disagree. The offsides is solely Giontas fault. The other 3 sabres had no problem staying on side, Gionta needs to drag that skate...he just knows he's too slow for Jack and was cheating at the line to keep up.

You mean Eichel who had the puck, McCabe who was 6 feet behind to start, and Kane who they were about to accuse?

    The rule is crap.

I'm not mad at Eichel for trying to make a play.

I'm pointing out that some people continue to pile on easy targets.

  4. If another thread was started about this I apologize but Schopp broached the subject yesterday after he saw the Sabres were predicted to finish last again.

I cleansed myself of the ugly tank years promptly after last season ended. Right up until this very moment I was disgusted by the thought. I'm not sure if the Sabres could actively do anything to ensure a worse place in the standings. None-the-less are we headed for another last place finish? My eyes and heart tell me no but doubt is creeping into my head.

  5. Thank you for mentioning that play behind the net. WTF was Jack doing? (other than playing D on Kane...) Those guys still don't seem to gel. I thought Eichel looked better (but not quite good) and Kane was very quiet.

Rooting against Risto? Focusing on +/- when two of his goals were on the PP? Weak. Sauce.

Risto played a good game in the D zone last night.

Woah, me and GoDD both used "weak sauce" at the same exact time.

How was it a theory? You flat out admitted that you wanted the other team to score so Risto looked worse.

I said I wanted Ristolainen to get in the record books.

    People like to project.....

  6. Sorry it didn't happen. I can imagine how satisfying that would have been.

You're doing it wrong. Better to cheer for your personal opinions and prognostications to be validated.

    Hoowee.

Both of our goalies are regressing to the mean.

I was the only one to say Babcock is a paper tiger and Bylsma is the real deal.

If your condescending theory was true, wouldn't I want to root for the team to win every cup as hard as possible so I could give you the ultimate "I told you so!"

    Weak sauce, chief.......

Ristolainen is a talented fella. So far it's been a lot of telling us how you won a $1,000 jackpot on the slot machine but fail to mention the $1,200 you lost that weekend in Vegas going into the score...

  7. I think there's gonna be a giant earthquake or some other natural disaster in the next few days.

People are losing their sh!t on each other, but even more the animals are freaking. Horses flipping and running off, $100 winners back to back at major outlets....

This you can call tinfoil. Still, there needs to be an environmental stress relief.

  8. SabreSpace: So rakish, why your own thread?

rakish: Well, there's a few reasons, but mostly, trying to data porn the draft makes people angry, so I'm trying to stay out of the way.

    SabreSpace: Why post at all?

rakish: In the end, I need stuff dated. This process might work, or it might be a disaster, but if it works, I need a date on it.

SabreSpace: So what nonsense do we have today?

rakish: Total nonsense. What you are looking for in the draft is increase in productivity. So I'm trying to see who is good next Summer by how much better they are in the Spring related to their Fall.

SabreSpace: So these are the 10 players you don't want?

    rakish: Absolutely, not yet anyway.

    SabreSpace: Any qualifications?

rakish: Well, I don't have many NLA players in the database, and Matthews has been injured, so his score is more meaningless. Chychrun doesn't score enough, so he'll never get the model's love. I'm thinking the smalls are overvalued, because there's so many of them.

SabreSpace: How does this compare to last year?

rakish: Well Eichel and McDavid were over a 1000, Marner was at 850, Strome was about 625. So as an early look, expecting the Matthews rating to be way off, then replacing Matthews with Eichel or McDavid, pretty much the same, except for one star instead of two.

SabreSpace: So one less McDavid, and two more Marners?

    rakish: yep

    Keller: 891

    Matthews: 853

    Bitten: 710

    Tkachuk: 676

    DeBrincat: 662

    Nylander: 553

    Dube: 537

    Burke: 527

    Mascherin: 497

    Rubtsov: 473

    Pethrus: 471

    Chz: 69

    I kid....

Good stuff. Always thinking and looking.

I have no clue about this group but am a good 10 games away from wanting to learn.

  9. Bylsma doesn't strike me as the "go out and draw blood" kind of coach. Indeed, he reminds me of some of the "everyone gets a trophy" parents I run across all too frequently.

I think he is better than Lindy for sure. Same style but with more of a human approach to teaching than dictatorial.

Still trying to figure it all out myself. Gorges and Bogosin have seemed robotic, yet both are back from serious injury.

Much like the Bills D threw Rex under the bus multiple times this year, if there is an issue we will soon find out.
