  1. The NWS won't sound any major alarms until the forcast is concrete. The GFS has consistantly shown 2-3 days of 20MPH+ sustained winds with gusts 60-80MPH. Depending on how the front moves past us run to tun, rain and wind fuctuates. The usual hurricane hits fast and hard, and gets carried off. This is an aircraft carrier and is going to slowly drift around the general area. And I don't see how strong winds and 3-5" is very different from what I have been saying. You will have 2 inches from this weekend alone before Sandy joins in. You don't need to panic, but if you aren't prepared for a constant battering for a few days, you are doing yourself a disservice. Earlier in the week it was unclear if there would be snow involved for Buffalo....and yes, the winds will be comin N/NE.....so if it was freezing, and you had 5 inches of rain translated at 8-10" of snow per inch....then add on everything coming down from Lake Ontario...it could have been a complete disaster. It looks like WV will get the worst of the snow. Bloomberg just looked like a complete fool on TV. He tried to do his Henry Winkler impression. Instead he probably just got a few people killed.
  2. I got laughed at by some people Wednesday night. Now there are $100 million worth of horses stranded in NY because things weren't moved up. There are a lot of smart people here fluffing this off. If that is happening all over the NE, I can only imagine what the average retard is doing.
  3. The media is UNDERreporting this from the beginning because they have recently gotten mocked. The NHC has lost it's mind and is not using Hurricane watches and warnings because it will technically be a non-tropical core once it phases in with the front. Stupid...stupid....stupid.....I see the scoffing here. Maybe ILovePhysics or someone with some weather background can give input on this type of storm. If this does what the models are all projecting, every major city on the mid-atlantic coast will set a record for lowest barometric pressure EVER! Everyone can do what they want.....It will be fun reading the complaint Thursday thread this week though.....if you have internet access.
  4. People don't understand the dynamics with the front coming down. If you are used to looking at pinwheels in August, the hurricane itself doesn't look impressive on radar or with it only being a Cat. 1......but when it collides and transitions to a more classic winteresque storm, it will explode, and instead of wrapping all that energy around itself, will spread it out. Instead of being a Ferrari, it will be a F-350 with nitrous boosters. The pressure is going lower now, and I have to catch up with the overnight models, but this could be a doozy for even Buffalo. 20-40MPH winds for 48 hours and as of last night, there were gusts to 80 projected. When this stalls, we will be thankfull this isn't snow. The lake effect on top of the regular precip when the winds come off the lakes.....it would be freaky. I went to Wegmans last night preparing as if we could be out of power even here for 3-5 days. All was normal. Buffalo may end up with 3 months of rain in 3 days.
  5. He tried, but the Chinese masseuse said no! I'm reducing my halloween candy budget by 50% in anticipation of a trick-or-treat washout. Some models now have Buff/Roch getting 6-8 inches of rain through Wednesday. Actually, you may be in the worst of it if it hits Atlantic City, which seems to be the trending ground zero. NY and north NJ get straightline winds out of the east, driving all the water in. Still way too early to know. She was weakening overnight but now trying to flair up again. Very interesting situation.
  6. Nope. Irony. Touching.
  7. Let's put it in less reflective terms. Maybe the reason no broads are in congress is because all the smart ones got aborted. There you go......
  8. No...they were cheering for the right to buy a mucho grande latte at Starbucks...... Again....right to guns......protect yourself from bad guy Women's rights......right to be the bad guy. At least a half dozen seriously bad decisions need to be made before you get to the point of even having to consider an abortion. If the numbers were 10,000 a year or so, I would take the "rights" thing at face value. But abortions are about as common as ordering pizza. That's what I view as crazy. Rape/daddy-love/health...............yes, I can understand.
  9. You have nuclear arms to prevent the "bad guy" from killing you. In abortion....someone who had no choice in the matter gets killed because they are an inconveinence to someone who had 4 Margharetas. In the case of rape, or health of the mother.....sure. Tough decision, but understood. It is the fact that so many women's "rights" supporters act is if they themselves are the poor soul for being tortured by this growing intrusion of a fetus, that makes many people push back. People treat abortion like a credit card. They sexually spend beyond their means, but know they are covered. To me, a fetus is the same as a 1 day old, or a 6 month old, or a 5 year old, or heck...in the eyes of the court, a 16 year old. They are all at the mercy of their guardian. If I have a brat of a kid at 3, why can't I just abandon it or whack it? It can't survive without me anyway? I know a lot of good people have made the tough decision to get an abortion. It's just that I can much more easily identify with those trying to protect, than those trying to destroy. The irony is, the right is the bad guy because they want to take away hand-outs to 30 year olds who don't want to work for a living and free ride. Innocent being? Ahhhh...just whack'em. I never saw him.
  10. It's more the high priority that so many people have for that issue. On freaking Jay Leno the other day the president refered to a woman's right to choose and people went ape with cheers and applause. Abortion should be like a nuclear bomb. You only use it in the case that a bunch of other things don't make having the baby the right move. The left treats it like it is a bb-gun. I can't understand that mindset, and that is why you see the hardcore religious right going at them.
  11. What I don't understand is the pure celebration that many on the left have for abortion. That's what makes me queazy. They treat it like a top-shelf, 1st line of defense, when in reality it is gut-rot and should be looked at something as the last resort because you f'd up really bad. If it was as simple as personal rights.....I could understand. Just the level of admiration for those that celebrate it is pretty sick in my opinion. I can respect your "right" to get an abortion....but when you celebrate a grave decision, I just don't respect you.
  12. And that's 500 miles inland! It is a very interesting scenario setting up. It is a hurricane getting caught up with a Nor'easter. There is a chance Buffalo sees 20-40MPH winds for 48 hours in a stall with gusts in the 60-70 range. It looks like if it is rain it will be 2-4 inches over 2-3 days. If that is snow, pretty much 18-36"....but it looks more like snow down south and Buf gets rain. The power being out in Obama country is very interesting. If NJ/PA/OH/VA/RI all get hit hard, which is possible.....turnout even a week away could be low.
  13. As Obama would say......"The kids know Bullsh!T when they see it." Hull was one of the top 3 names in the game for half a decade. His dad was what Rick Martin wanted to be. If you exposed Brett Hull to the elements, the product of his half-life would be Tomas Vanek. If the puck was an 8 inch vulcanized rubber missile, Hasek probably would have stopped it with his ### PS...I still need coffee.......
  14. Any flamer that uses a ;) symbol probably works for the Sabres.
  15. They don't know where the snow or how much there will be because it depends on the cold front. Most places will probably get rain, but on the western side of the storm, if it is higher elevations or just cold enough, they could measure it in feet. Still have to see where it hits and how it merges There hasn't been any sensationalism....that's why I pointed it out yesterday. This is like that Dennis Quaid film setting up where the hurricane-like system crashes into a jet cold front and an atmospheric bomb explodes. It is so rare that nobody has said anything yet because of the once in a lifetime sort of pattern that is setting up. Now that all of the models are in synch, you will see serious talk tonight. Still 4 days away, so always a chance for some sort of dud, but this would really nail a lot of people and is pretty serious looking. I sounded my doom alarm last night and talked to the barn because they have a horse shipping to Cali for the breeders cup.....supposed to fly out of NY on Tuesday. Of course the plane charter is saying the same thing as you are, but I told them to pound on them to move it up a few days. By tomorrow, people will be talking about this.
  16. It's on. Agreement from all models and they will be pimping it tonight on national news I would assume. A couple have direct hits on Long Island Tuesday morning and a few range down to your area. The cone is going to shrink most likely. This thing is a monster and who knows what will come of it. Lots of people are going to get smacked though, almost the whole northeast. It will be interesting to see what lingering effects there are for the election.
  17. Obama just did a great job on Leno. He even talked about the NHL lockout and said owners and players are making oodles of money because of the fans, so stfu and figure it out. Of course he said it with about 12% of the testosterone implied..... He's a likable guy...just lowest common denominator policies....
  18. Almost all the major models now have Hurricane Sandy hooking into the US mid-Atlantic/NE early next week. There are some crazy projections going on given it is supposed to hook up with a cold front. You could have 100MPH winds and 15 inches of rain on the coast, and 3' of snow inland. The National Weather Service has gone on some special alert that they've never done before in order to capture as much data as possible since this could really knock the daylights out of a huge section of the country. That's what got my interest. It's supposed to be 75 tomorrow.....time to finish up the outside chores!
  19. I'm confused
  20. Like I said.....rely on the government! I'll give you credit unions, but that's like saying the Sabres are loaded with grit and heart because they have Nathan Gerbe. ........
  21. That's pretty funny.
  22. It's sort of like giving a crap about your ex-wife's, stepchild's birthday.
  23. They probably picked up that real estate at 65 cents on the dollar......thus incentive for strong hands to now hold and develop. How many people are lying in a burning pile of embers in order for them to now develop it? There are people buying $600K houses too. Problem is, the previous owner is now renting a 3 bedroom, the bank took a $800K haircut on the mortgage, and the taxpayers paid the difference through a government bailout and in the form of higher commodity prices and a depressed wage base as compared to real money like gold, oil, and the like.
