  1. The paint on my porch has been peeling and in need of repainting for a while, and someone had suggested I try chemical paint stripper. Found a non-toxic one with great reviews, tried it the other weekend, and not only did it not remove much paint, the porch looks worse than before because there's a pale pink cast to it even after heavy washing. Ugh.

And the annoying old lady who lives in the other half of my duplex is giving me grief again. First she sent a letter asking me to trim the lilac bush before it becomes a problem with the fence (a legitimate request). She also mentioned that our neighbor across the street had told her about a defect in my porch roof (thanks a lot, man) and that she hopes there isn't damage on her side that I would have to fix. I sent a polite note back letting her know I would take care of the trimming as long as she didn't mind me coming on her side to access the taller branches, and that I would certainly let her know after I've had an estimate on the porch roof if the contracter determines it concerns her as well. A few days later I get a long note asking again to make sure I have the contractor look at her side of the porch so I can have it fixed and suggesting how I should trim the lilac on my side of the property. She goes on to tell me she wants to be present for both projects but she's not an early riser, blah blah and it would have to be after 11am.

What Blue Hair isn't awake at 5:30 everyday? The only ones that I know are drunks.

  2. My bottom line on Darcy: he built one of my all-time favorite sports teams -- the 2005-'06 Sabres -- which was a great team, and it wasn't luck.

I never said Darcy was lucky in forming that team, he just lucked into getting every single penalty called the way they should be, therefore giving his smalls speedy skill team a decided advantage over teams who only months earlier were set up for success in the clutch and grab era.

  3. I have an irrational dislike of this player. It's not his fault. It all stems from JoBa's tweet in praise of him last year - as being part of the team's future blue liners - that put me over the edge.

I couldn't agree more. He's not a NHL player and for Battista to mention him in the same breath as the other is beyond ignorant.

  4. Derek Jeter dated and dumped: Mariah Carey, Jessica Beal, Jessica Alba, Lara Dutta, Minka Kelly and Jordanna Brewster. All without any one of them saying anything negative about him in the press. He's the greatest player of this or any generation!

...and those are just the ones we know about. He's kept his PP clean and come out smelling like roses. Toilet seats everywhere are envious of the ass he's got.

As for how good Jeter's career had been, he never would have been in the position he is today if he didn't play with an all star team every year. He's been a consistently good player on a great team for his entire career. He has so many "clutch" hits in the post season because he's been on deep runs in the post season almost every year.

    I don't really like Drake...

    Worst. Rapper. Ever.

This guy is light years better

    No really...

  5. He's the better basketball player between the two. Just not the greater.

Athletically, no one since Shawn Kemp compares to LeBron. MJ wasn't just the most athletic player of his era but also the most competitive. LeBron is definitely the most athletic (Blake Griffen a not so close second). Size, speed, strength are unmatched in one package. He just seems to come up short in his will to win.

Leaving your hometown team to fabricate an all-star roster to win it all is unbecoming at best and probably something closer to distasteful. His big game moments are equally negative as they are positive.

  6. I never understood why they reverted back, part from several big market teams crying about not being succesful immediately out of the gate.

The NHL's plan was to appeal casual viewers, you cannot seriously tell me the casual viewer finds the game more watchable today?

    This.

I just don't get the NHL's ethos. Are they trying to expand the sport or appeal to Don Cherry? In my mind, it's the latter. All you need to so is watch a Shanny "he followed through on his check putting his elbow through another guys face video" to understand the culture of these cromagnans. They don't want small skill guys to have a run of the league because they haven't suffered all the blood, sweat and tears they did in the 70's and 80's.

The game would be way more popular and exciting if they called it like they are supposed to. It's such a simple and obvious solution but the knuckle draggers won't allow it because they think it pussifies the game. I'm as blood lusty as they come but not at the expense of my favorite sport. Let them skate, make plays, create. Their can still be hitting and toughness just not in the form of penalties that prohibit exciting play.

  7. I get excited because these kids are all we've got and there is no point being a fan without hope.

    But PA's are wise words.

Risto looked like Rob Blake out there.

Has he grown that much, or is it because of who he was playing against?

    What he said...

Risto is the real deal. Big, smooth, smart. I made the Blake comparison as well. He just controls the game at both ends when he's on the ice. Out of everyone, I hope the fans latch onto him.

  8. Watching college kids on the driving range at Springville CC and projecting out to how they'll play at the Masters.

Sorry, not buying into any of this. Wake me up when they're doing it on MSG and at MSG (against the Rangers, not during a Billy Joel concert).

I'm as cynical as the next guy but can't a few posters get excited about the only thing we've been given so far, hope for the future. Sure only a handful of these guys will ever be players you cheer for at the FNC but lets at least enjoy what we have.

  9. I could see Carrier passing Armia but I will be very disappointed if McCabe passes Risto.

I'll be really surprised. Risto looked like a young Rob Blake in the A last year. He controlled play throughout. If McCabe is better than Risto, the Sabres are looking at a vast improvement in wins.

  10.

Good thoughts. I'd add that Leduc looked good too, even without the goal; one of the faster players on the ice when he was out there.

He'll need to start looking like a prospect soon. He finished the regular season last year in the ECHL. He's been pretty abysmal so far. Lets hope he starts putting it together this year.

Duffers shaving it down. Love it (coming from another chrome domer).
