Thats a big percentage... lol... yeah, I like to have hope even when its fleeting... but bottom line I expect a guy that may get called up from time to time but ultimately plays in Roch until we don't want to offer him another contract... and he plays in the AHL for some other team or goes to Europe.. thats my guess... but who knows.
Pretty much a big whiff as a 1st round draft pick. I know not all of them hit but every Sabres twitter jackwad was pouting like an insolent child after the pick and they were right making this even less enjoyable. I didn’t know anything about him but quickly came to the conclusion that he wasn’t anything they needed and was a reach by the every measure.
Draft guys that don’t look like the league will be too much for them and run them over immdialty. See Jiri Kulich or Konsta Helenius. They’ve already shown they can hang with the pros and possibly excel. Drafting waify kids who have no chance of competing has to be something we can rely on my the scouts and GM.

I agree here... not sold on Rosen, hoping Quinn figures it out... and very hopeful for Helenius... but he needs to bake a bit more in the AHL... I could see him getting a cup of coffee with the big team at somepoint this season just for his own reference.
Not sold on Rosen? I think 1000% of the world agreed outside of his mom.

Gotta give Adams credit, wraps up Draft, Prospect Camp and Free Agency in 6 days... Now he gets to hang at Chautauga Lake until November, when he'll have to explain the putrid product... Rinse and repeat... SMH...
Why does he need to explain it? Maybe to Terry but he doesn’t owe us anything.

Let's summarize the transactions and the aftermath. The Sabres are better on the blueline, and that is before knowing how the Byram issue turns out. In general, I would say that the Sabres are grittier than last year's version of a team. The issue that hangs over these player maneuvers and renders them helpful or not is the state of our goaltending. Is the addition of the new goalie going to be helpful? Will UPL become an adequate to solid #1 goalie? Will Levi eventually force his way onto the Sabres and relegate UPL as expendable? If the Sabres get consistent and solid goaltending, then at least we can hope for a credible playoff race. If not, then we continue to be stuck in the abyss. For me, it's not an issue of being confident or not about the position. I just don't know. So entering the season I find myself as being queasy about this team's prospects.

What changed? I'd speculate it's Ruff being in the room more than anything else pushing for this. And, because Jarmo's been there only a month now and besides, they made it a point to re-sign Zucker and Greenway late last season.
Comes off as another off-season where they make 1 moderate move and a bunch of minor ones. Then, pronounce that the sum is greater than the parts while gambling/banking on unproven players to improve. Meh.
My issue with the Sabres wanting to be grittier and tougher to play against is they still have too many players that are extraordinarily easy to play against. Power, Samuelsson, Quinn to name a few.
Follow through on your vision, move every pansy ass player out the door. Adam’s not even considering buying out Mattias is criminal behavior.

Everyone signs cheap AHL players. It's just... most teams have other news so it isn't the only thing coming out.
Yeah I’m aware. I still think they aren’t adding payroll intentionally.

Is JBD better than Bryson, if the answer is yes than Adams is awful at his job.
It seems like every day is his first day on the job. Just no sense of direction or purpose.
From the little I’ve gleaned from the Sabres this offseason, “hard to play against” seems to be the mantra. Kesselring and Doan are an upgrade in that department but they aren’t exactly Chara and Lucic.
Danforth and Timmons I suppose also fall into the same category. It just doesn’t seem like Adams fully understands his own guidance. Maybe there weren’t a lot of options.
As I stated previously (god only knows what thread it’s in), it isn’t hard to build a team WNY loves. Get hard working grinders all throughout your lineup. Guys that hit, fight and stick up for teammates. Sprinkle your Tages and Dahlins into the lineup for high end skill but stay true to the plan. Get players that play the game the right way.
Instead they just keep taking huge swings for the fence with draft picks like Kisakov. I know they have rectified the type of players they are drafting but unfortunately we are stuck with the results of drafts from 5 years ago. Soft skill players. It’s changing but players like Power and Quinn shouldn’t be a part of the solution. They are the opposite of what they should roster.

No idea who this guy is (Jonathan Willis), but this was a very interesting (and fairly quick) read regarding how Florida's gone about putting together the best team in the league.
https://corsiknight.substack.com/p/stop-wasting-money-on-depth-guys
Here's his conclusion:
The upshot of all this discipline is that the Panthers are able to fill the bottom eight slots on their roster for just $7.725 million. With most teams running a 22-man roster these days, that gives the Panthers a total of $87.775 million for their other 14 players, an average of $6.27 million per player.
It’s how Florida affords 11 players making more than $5 million/season, with six of them north of $7 million/season. The Panthers have simply shaved every penny they can at the positions that don’t really move the needle, so that they have dollars to give to the guys who do.
Low taxes and sunshine are great, but every team has to come up with a roster under $95.5 million. It’s a much, much easier task when the general manager is willing to be ruthless with the depth guys.
+++
This leads me infer that maybe all that bargain bin shopping yesterday by the Sabres was an effort to emulate Florida?
I’m more inclined to believe they are trimming the budget per Terry’s direction.

Am I the only one who doesn’t see Ryan Johnson as an NHL player?
No he’s barely shown anything to date. Maybe he plays out like Mark Pysyk. Nothing flashy but does what the job requires.

Hope Nikita Novikov really works on his foot speed all offseason. We'll probably need him at some point.
Are Ryan Johnson & Zac Jones ahead of him on the depth chart? It seems that way.

That being said, if the Sabres would just bring in a couple of these guys to police the ice, the fans would melt. This franchise abandoned what the blue collar folks of WNY love. Old fashion grit. Hit, fight, stick up for teammates. It’s not difficult to please the masses of WNY. Bring the violence that western Canadian teams have in droves. Also the Stanley Cup champs.

I have gone to tons of Silver Knights game and trust me this guy will never be in the NHL. He will drop the gloves but he’s nothing more then an AHL player!
13 minutes ago, ponokasabre said:Every year we add the right kind of players…..for Roch!
why have never added this player to our nhl roster?!
To be fair, the AHL is still a little more old school with aging young vets trying to do anything they can to make an NHL roster and win games. They tear through the skill guys like tissue paper. Now they have Joshua and Geertsen. Syracuse and Laval can ***** the ***** off.

Doan and Zucker are going to wind up in the top six. Along with a occasional appearance by Greenway, when he's not injured.
I’ve been thinking the same thing. As their styles, which are extremely ordinary in the NHL, are somewhat foreign to our group of snipers and danglers, will stand out amongst the passengers. They are engaged, intense and willing to do what is necessary to win.

This is a Lindy signing, little doubt.
I mean they finally have a bottom six homegrown player who fills a role they need. I doubt any coach would have a problem with Kozak in their lineup. I wish he was a tad bigger but he’s no midget.

It looks like the only thing Sabres fans have left is hoping this materializes into something worth getting excited about.

You do realize this happens every off season. They NEED to sign guys for the AHL. And every off season, the same people act like complete rubes when it happens.

They CANNOT trade Bryam. Their offense is going to take a step back and they have to rely on defense to try and win games.
The thinking is the return fo Bo would be that perceived void of offense.

I haven’t seen much to get me terribly excited about RyJo’s game. I guess he’s a cheap depth defender. Doesn’t bring size, toughness or an appreciable amount of offense. Definitely not in the mold of the D acquired last week.

It's somewhat amazing he became a billionaire. Those types are typically ruthless, calculating and very smart (at least in a business sense) Pegula is the exact opposite, he got lucky, got rich and is a timid (but still arrogant) passive dweeb.
I suppose when you're worth billions, you can do and say what you want, but his whole schitck has run dry. Get up in front of the microphone and just own it man, you're still a billionaire irregardless. At least Golisano owned it, I don't have any respect for sir Terrance.
The sabres broadcast does still seem like it's on old school Adelphia, not sure how to make it better... Maybe subliminal messages of "we want fans that want to be here" maybe that'll work.
I try to remind people as often as I can, you don’t need to be smart to become rich. Usually you have to be a ruthless conniving evil SOB, Terry just seemed to be the beneficiary of owning land that had natural resources and leveraged that into $$$. Not because he was shrewd but because the industry was just handing out millions to people.

Terry Pegula has always been the same guy. Remember when he met with the Buffalo News editorial team in February 2011?
One of the principal points he wanted to make to them: You're too critical of the hockey team. Be nicer, be more positive, and they'll play better.
He advised the newspaper to encourage the Sabres' success (in pro hockey) in the same way that the Pegulas encourage the success of their daughter Jessica (in pro tennis).
Bizarre.
Yeah. This is embarrassing and shines a light on what Terry is really concerned about. Perception. Not reality.

I hope not! He played well for us last season! He is definitely a solid and serviceable 4-6 dman we just wasted assets to get last year!!
Paul Hamilton just confirmed the 2nd round pick wasn’t traded exclusively for JBD. Dennis Gilbert was the piece included for JBD. Take it for what it’s worth.

Power, 6'6"
Kesselring, 6'5"
Samuelsson, 6'4"
Dahlin, 6'3"
Timmins, 6'2"
That's the defense right now with JBD not signed and Byram a big ???
Yeah I’ve been thinking about this. Is JBD too small for Kevyn's narrow minded view on hockey players. He’s shifted from all offense to all giants. I mean whatever. My biggest problem is that most of the D aren’t overly physical. Did he forget that part of the equation?

Trade : Conor Timmins and Isaac Belliveau from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Connor Clifton and the 39th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

If Samuelsson gets top 4 minutes, just fold the franchise. Clifton was better FFS. JBD was better. Kale freaking Clague may have been better. Everyone who has played D for the Sabres since Samuelsson’s arrival has been better minus Jacob Bryson.
