In a way, I'm a little glad Botterill didn't move right away to add a second liner. It may have been hasty in retrospect without first knowing what this team is. I still can't put my finger on what this team is and what the appropriate upgrade should be. Not like scoring is a stand-out issue right now, or goaltending, or defense. However, it's clear this team needs an upgrade somewhere.

The only thing I would say about what I saw is that the PP needs more work. The counter to the Sabres' PP is clearly to pressure the players, and that has been working lately. The Sabres need to work on moving the puck quicker (someone here was on that train all last season). He's been on and off the Sabrespace trade block since this summer.

Especially since he can actually play defense.

I think it was Vesey who didn't return. Maybe they're going with 7 D? Or Dahlin is in the press box? I wouldn't mind them trying 7 D, though. Shorter shifts, option for Borgen to go out and lay the heavy. Dahlin out there when they need extra offense. That's the kind of freaky coaching strategies I would love to see attempted - and succeed.

I couldn't believe my eyes. They seem, I say seem, to have cut down on those, because the no-look passes were killing them last year and they turnover possession that way more often than not. But, there we go, Eichel passes right to their guy right in the middle of the ice. Dahlin's flopping around is almost insignificant compared to that play.
