HOWEVER!!!!!
The term "Concept of Kassian" which multiple posters were trying to drive in.....in direct response to DeLuca, myself, and a handful of other posters saying that trading Kassian, a rugged winger with 30 goal potential, for Hodgson who is just another undersized, soft, Sabre-Type (at the time) player....was a stupid move. Hodgson went hot for the few games he was here after the trade and Kassian didn't do much...so we had everyone on the bandwagon, and making fun of a few of us. We still stood strong in saying it was a poor decision....also pointing out all of hodgson's red flags at Vancouver.
What happens?
The Sabres after less than a half a season, sign Hodgson to a 6 year $25.5 million contract.
Vancouver signs Kassian for 2 years, $3.5 million.
Since Hodgson signed his contract, he has 57 points in 150 games.
Kassian has 45 points in 115 games.
Kassian has outscored Hodgson on a points per game basis since Hodgson signed his big contract....and at 13% the total financial commitment, and 40% the yearly one.
So.....if anyone would like to admit a double F-up.......feel free.
And again, this isn't, "I told you so".
This is a direct response to a false claim (partial), which was levied in the midst of a pile-on of a subject.....which may also warrant an I told you so, but the personal shame the Hodgson lovers feel is obvious enough to let them hit the restart button.
Yeah, it's looking like I was as wrong about Hodgson as I was about Kassian at first. Feel free to give me an "I told you so" about Cody for sure. Trading Kassian was still the right thing to do especially because Foligno was already proving he was way more Kassian than Kassian was on a nightly basis in the A and then when he was called up.
Not sure why you are conflating the Kassian discussions with this one about Zemgus. Do you long for Team Storm Cloud?

I refer you to post #143 in the same thread. We both ascribed a special character trait to Girgensons. The wiser course I chose at the time was to not burden him with the same kind of unrealistic expectations we were too quick to lay on Kassian. That's not how I remember it!!!
Feel free to scroll down the rest of the page......

Start at post #115 on page 3 and read on through page 4......I guess because it's locked it sends you to the first post.
Sorry, Ghost. You'll have to save your "I told you so" for someone else as we were in agreement about his character from the get go.
I am still impressed by your sustained sense of optimism, though. It continues to refresh.

After listening to both Eichel interviews from today, my opinion is that any irritation he may have about his remark getting out barely registers. He himself said the remark is not a bad thing at all; it's a good thing. If he's miffed at anything, I think it's the incessant media that tends to make bigger deals out of things. He pointed to another example of that when he was asked about his earlier remarks about not wanting to play in a place he doesn't want to be next year. The media implied it was about being selected by a team he didn't want to play for, when it really was about where his heart might be at, either in the NHL or back in college.
I agree with Hamilton's take and that is that both he and McDavid are simply weary from having had to answer the same kinds of questions over and over and over again.
I also agree with Hamilton's impression that Eichel is more mature than McDavid when it comes to dealing with the media. Perhaps a better word to use would be savvy, instead. Eichel projects more of an air of confidence in his answers than McDavid at this stage. It's another thing I like about him, too.

My apologies if this was already mentioned elsewhere, but did anyone hear Jeremy White's story yesterday about Girgensons interview when he attended the 2012 Combine?
When asked by a team, "What is the one thing that could stand in the way of achieving your NHL dream?", Zemgus replied, "Death."
White said it is the all time best answer to that question, ever. And I couldn't agree more. How can anyone not love everything about this kid's commitment to the game?
Been saying it since learning he was blocking shots in the third period of a game his team was losing by 11 goals, you can't teach what this kid has.

I follow zach bogosian too.
I guess it's just my preconceived opinion I had of him and Cane's posts only fed to that. From what I've read about him, he seems to care more about himself then he does team or anyone else for that matter. You can see the different styles of posting from Evander and Zack and I realize they are different people but you can also take from it he is more obsessed with himself then with family or friends. To me that is a red flag but I hope I am wrong. You are right my opinion is probably baseless but it is my opinion none the less.
That looks a lot more like the contrast between a married guy vs. a single guy more than anything.
I read a couple articles in the Vancouver Sun a while back and, from the way he describes his devotion to his parents and sisters, he seems to care very much about family.

I'm a poet.
I don't even know it.
But my dick does show it.
It's a Longfellow.
And all this time I thought it was an homage to Perreault.

Guessing this means Kane and Toews. From my understanding, Kane and Toews play on separate lines. Can anyone verify that?
Coach Q had them together in game 7 and what a great strategy it was, too. Toews, Kane, and Saad took the opening faceoff vs. the Kessler line and stayed on the ice for all of 4 seconds before Q pulled them off and waited to match them up against Getzlaf's line. The Ducks had no answer as Getzlaf had his worst game of the series being forced to play defense and he just couldn't.
But yeah, Kane and Toews usually don't play on the same line, but Q puts them together when he targets something specific in the to other team. Can't wait to see what he does against Tampa.

To those decrying the Sansa rape scene as gratuitous or otherwise lacking, I urge you to consider that scene in light of Sansa's earlier declarations to Ramsey's stable girl (I forget her name) who tried to intimidate Sansa while bathing her. When viewed in that context, the rape scene is very much about Sansa and makes perfect literary sense. Viewed through that prism, I would argue that rape, because of the sheer horror of it, was a powerful vehicle to illustrate her conflict and set the stage for her future resolution.

In looking at some results from that 2012 Combine, it appears Jake McCabe has some good hops, comparatively. First in the long jump and fourth in the vertical. Helluva good grip strength, too.

Evander Kane wants to have a word with you :P
Perhaps. But in looking at his results from the 2009 combine, he wasn't doing what Eichel is doing at that age. I don't know if Kane can now clean as much or do as many pull-ups at 198 pounds, but there is no doubt he's a far better boxer. All I know is they are both explosive and fast as hell on their skates. Throw in Ennis and we finally have a line that is actually difficult to defend.

Eichel being selected second with a 300lb chip on his shoulder. Good for the Sabres!
I think that chip is up to 350lbs now.

I am intrigued by this nugget:
Finally on Bylsma: what else did he work on during his season off the bench?
“I wanted to take a look at different teams and coaches, the cadence of their line shifts, patterns, tell signs, implementation of personnel. Do they match forwards and defence, or just defence? Zone starts. It was kind of an out-of-body experience, not looking at anything the way I watched it before,” he said.
With more time to watch, he looked pretty deep. Will be interesting to see if it changes any of his own habits.
Somehow, I just don't think Ted Nolan paid too much attention to things like that
And he is already working on how to best utilize the weapon that is Evander Kane
When the Sabres traded for Evander Kane, a couple of scouts/executives wondered if he would be a match for an Eichel or a Connor McDavid because Kane likes to carry the puck, and the centre would need that responsibility. Bylsma sees that could be an issue. But, noting Eichel and Kane’s speed, he added, “If that can work, imagine it coming at you.” Bylsma sat down with Kane for three hours after taking the job and spoke to former Jets coach Claude Noel, too.
What did Noel say?
“There is probably not a guy who is more competitive than Evander Kane,” Bylsma replied. He was not going to reveal anything else.
I don't think Bylsma's tactics are going to start and stop at "skate hard and compete"
Love reading this.
Regarding the Eichel/Kane line pairing, I don't necessarily see Kane's preference to carry the puck as being at odds with Eichel. There may be times when that's actually desirable, depending on matchups. Anyway, it's a nice problem to have.
From the same article:
“From what we know, (Eichel’s) power numbers are extremely good. His vertical, again from what we know, would be the second-best among the Sabres…so there’s a powerful base. He still needs to work on strength and to get bigger, but what he generates is an enormous amount of power. The way he can accelerate, you don’t see someone do that every day.”
Power numbers like vertical, etc. are a measure of explosiveness. I've said it before, the minute Eichel steps into that locker room, he is already among the strongest buys on the team, and THE strongest among the forwards.
At 18.
Can't wait.

PA where is the memoir available? I'm a huge fan of military history and love reading first person accounts, particularly about WWII.
A few years ago I had a patient who I had to tell there was nothing unless we could do for his metastatic cancer. I knew he was a WWII Vet, but I did not know the details. I said I'm sorry about the news I had just delivered, he smiled at me and said
"Doc, I was on the first Higgins Boat that landed in Easy Green Sector Omaha Beach, June 6, 1944. Out of the first ten guys to leave the boat I was the only one who made it out of the surf. I survived that day and was able to marry the girl of my dreams, be the father to five great kids, grandfather to twelve and great grandfather to seven and counting. I got to live a full life, feel sorry for my brothers who didn't. Thanks for everything you have done for me"
I mumbled something along the lines of your welcome and left the room and headed to the nearest stairwell. Once there it took me fifteen minutes to regain my composure. I had read the book the greatest generation, but did not truly appreciate it until that moment.
Speechless.

There have been countless reports by many people close to the situation that Eichel, as an incoming 17 year old at BU, really amazed them by how he was able to gain the confidence of the upper classmen on the team so quickly. My theory is that while his skill contributed to that most of all, his numbers in their strength testing last September did a lot, too. When you rip off 350lb cleans and 25 pullups, it tends to get the attention of your teammates. I think he may downright intimidate some attendees next week.

Enjoyed the presser. Something about his countenance appeals to me; like he's ready to tell a joke or that he knows something but he's just not gonna let you in on it just yet. Anyway, nice first impression.

Wait... you mean trade a budding superstar for one who's already plateaued and a fired coach? How would that make sense for the Sabres? I mean Bylsma might turn out to be a fine coach, but I'd be shocked if the Sabres gave up more than a 3rd round pick (what they would have given up for the best coach available in Babcock) to get Bylsma. No team needs to take Bylsma off the Penguins' hands; there are other fish in the sea.
So that would be a "no."

Yes, if only the great hockey mind of Ted Nolan had Mark Pysyk in his lineup, everything would have been different.
