The big difference is that the team originally trading the player can't sign the player. It was laways understood that the team trading for the player couldn't resign him. What they are stopping is say Tampa trading Vinny to Buffalo so that Buffalo can buy him out and then Tampa can resigning him.

It's really another example of how fluid the new CBA is. It's no wonder teams are confused as they seem to make it up as they go

Yes, but they would have traded him to a team that would have made him their third string goalie if they got a better offer. There is a difference between Boston giving Bourque a chance at a Cup and LA going out of their way to accommodate a well paid back up still earning his stripes in the league. I don't know about the offer sheet part, but this makes the most sense. Some respected analyst aren't even sure how much of an upgrade it is.

Flyers were one of worst teams in league year prior to him signing there and Montreal just missed playoffs. He didn't want the pressure or the taxes of playing in Montreal at the time. Now that he is older, maybe but I doubt it

I'm all for free enterprise and healthy competition but no matter what the business, it's never considered a good idea to rail against the competition, especially not the leader in the field. Build your own site and make it work on its own merit. Just my personal opinion.

Where do you get that stat? I hate him personally but 66 points in 68 playoff games with 26 goals including the Cup winning goals and a shorthanded goal in their first run that staved off elimination puts him in pretty elite "clutch playoff" peformer category

Buffalo was 19th in hits and 11th in blocked shots. Since they averaged over 25 hits per game I think that means only 4 games to get to the 104. LA averaged around 35 hits per game to finish 2nd to Toronto. The 6 remaining teams finished 2, 9, 10, 22, 29 and 30th in hits. In blocked shots, the 2nd most over hyped stat the remaining 6 teams finished 2, 10, 21, 22, 28 and 30th(LA)

As long as they are allowed to use an amnesty buy out for a player acquired, the there is no cap hit, just cash pay out.
