I’ve only worked for 2 companies the last 25 years.  Both were very clear about not citing age at all ever during any interview process.  I can’t believe that many companies were that transparent about your age.  As someone who interviews a lot of people, I may take note of someone age but it’s almost always older=better based on my experiences. (And theirs!!) It would seem all those companies have opened themselves up to age discrimination lawsuits from the get go.  Weird.

This pretty much sums up my feelings.

I like Lance well enough, but it’s difficult to take him seriously when he writes this in response to a question about how the Sabres will compensate for Quinn’s injury.

Brett Murray, for one, has absolutely zero bearing on how the Sabres will fill the void left by Quinn’s injury.

Like you I find Lance very good but he has always exaggerated the value of marginal AHL players.

  3. A) Hockey Ops is generally on vacation after free agency

    B) There are “good” times to announce these things

    C) There is no impending deadline

When it makes sense to all parties relative to timing, travel, public relations, it will be announced.

Of course, it’s always possible Rasmus’ agent said, WTF, you said you were going to get a real goalie😉

Pretty hard to debate private numbers or any conclusions being drawn from them. (Not doubting your sources exist). Conventional stats disagree.

And I’m not debating whether or not UPL needs to be upgraded. In my opinion, he should be.

I understand but there have been public articles written that refer to some of these numbers. There is a reason you won’t find a single article from the last few years that list him as an NHL prospect. People that debate these things for a living do not have a high opinion of him. He has largely been a Buffalo thing.

It would be great to be proven wrong but I just don’t see it.

UPL has been very mediocre and inconsistent, but “very worst” is hyperbole.

In 21/22 he put up a .917 sv% in the NHL.

Over the past 2 years he’s 21/17/6 in the AHL and 19/16/6 in the NHL.

Last year in the AHL his sv% barely cracked the top 50, but it wasn’t far behind well-rated peers like Akira Schmid and Piotr Kotchekov. And there were 25 guys who played at least 15 games and had worse, in some cases significantly worse.

Im not arguing your main point, his numbers aren’t promising.

I just don’t want the bold to become gospel around here, because it’s not true.

I’m sorry, the people I trust and the numbers they use to evaluate goaltenders say different.

Also, this is a league were five goals can be the difference between playoffs and lottery pick. Any statistical difference can be significant.

I wonder how many pizza joints today buy frozen dough from Sysco instead of making their own?

Last I knew, Picasso’s, Santoro’s,  Just Pizza, Imperial, Bocce, One Pie, and most other premium places made their own dough. I know La Nova was contemplating using dough made to their recipe by Latinas and they probably went that route.
With a he struggle finding labor, the cost of a mixer and the eccentricities of dough making, I’d bet it’s costs smart for most little guys to use Al Cohen’s dough distributed by local vendors.

That Transit Rd Store (presume you're referring to the one between Clinton and French) has been there since at least the early 80's and likely even longer.

I believe he is talking about the one near the old Eastern Hills Mall. Forgot what it was before but it’s a huge place

Espn’s rating on the Sabres off-season to date.  https://www.espn.com/nhl/insider/insider/story/_/id/37989724/nhl-team-grades-free-agency-draft-trades-report-cards

Why do these writers keep saying we need additional forward depth?  Fairburn of the Athletic wrote the same thing.  How much more depth are we supposed to have?

Maybe because Adams acknowledged that they came close to acquiring a forward during free agency before price got out of their range.

  9. I feel like I’m beating a dead horse but just because I guy was drafted high and at one time was “maybe” considered a prospect doesn’t mean Magic Don can fix him.

By all acceptable goaltending metrics UPL has had one “less then half season” in the ECHL were he wasn’t considered one of the leagues worst goalies. How long can we blame hip surgery and defensive systems?

If Buffalo was going into this season with two “top end prospects” I wouldn’t be happy but I’d understand. To be going into this season hoping that Levi defies history and UPL suddenly becomes average is management malpractice, especially when there is a solution that only cost money, a draft choice and the team’s fifth best prospect.

I think that must be the same outfit that kills it at the Erie Co. Fair, is a solid pre show meal at Artpark. They’re a food truck operator now afaik. Maybe they still have a store? Not “Buffalo pizza,” but still an excellent product.

They actually started as strictly a food truck but have had their brick and mortar store for awhile

Buffalo Bros in Fort Worth was opened by a local restaurateur at the suggestion of one of his chefs who is from Kenmore.  The restaurateur has several restaurants under different names and themes, but he has two locations of Buffalo Bros.  The chef, Ed, is now part owner and partner.  They've talked about expanding to Dallas but haven't gotten there yet.

Maybe someday Florida, who knows?  I think part of the issue would be scalability; right now they do runs to Buffalo for Salen's, loganberry syrup, Bison Brand French Onion Dip, etc.  You can do that for a couple restaurants but if you get too many you really need commercial supply (especially if the restaurants are not geographically close).  For other things he sources them locally, like he gets the kimmelweck buns baked locally to his spec.

Everybody is always talking about someone can make a killing elsewhere but it’s not typically as easy as bringing recipes to another part of the country. Weather and water, for example, play an enormous part in dough quality which obviously affects pizza and beef on weck. There are ways around it but they aren’t cheap. Also, people like what they like and what one part of country thinks is to die for, the other part has to be convinced. A lot of other factors involved as well but just my two cents.

If Power’s Camp wants to go short term I wonder if the better option would be is to let the year play out and see what number they would be looking for long term next summer and see if the gap is closer between the two sides

As a 10.2c RFA He doesn’t have arbitration rights and cannot receive an offer sheet so there is no risk

Hence the reason there is some hope of bridging the gap now. They have some leverage.

  13. This is such a non story but like Chad, I feel the need to explain a little bit about how this works.
These contracts are at least 90% boiler plate and 9% precedent driven. There really is not a lot to negotiate once term and AAV are agreed on. It’s why guys can sign five minutes after free agency begins. So when someone tells me that term and limit are in “non deal breaking territory” the deal is done.

The reason I was misinformed about the Ullmark deal is because Buffalo ultimately met his numbers only for Boston to swoop in after their plan A(Darcy Kuemper) became unavailable. It happens. There is nothing that can blow this deal up short of Rasmus blowing out a knee at an amusement park.

For what it’s worth, I’m hearing Owen is going to be a shorter deal. It really is the smart play for him unless Buffalo goes way high.

I truly hope Buffalo doesn't go this route. Buffalo can easily win a cup without him .

The narrative will always be if we win a cup kane got the cup for Buffalo All the media outlets will spin the ***** to no end

If Kane ends up in Buffalo, it would be in a support role and nobody will be spinning it any differently.
On the other hand, you are nothing if not consistent.
