There definitely was some disaffection following his retirement. I thought maybe some fences were mended when the Pegulas bought the team and Terry delivered his maudlin "where's Perreault ... you're my hero" line at the opening press conference.

I also think -- and this is really just a guess -- that Perreault has a deep, strong preference for the Quebecois culture. Being a regular ambassador for the Sabres was just never going to be a fit for him.

I thought he did reconnect after Pegula bought the team before fading away. He always did prefer staying close to home so maybe that’s all it is. Like I said, I’ve always stayed away from the things that I consider private matters.

  2. FWIW, I still stand by the belief that this is done. They have no reason to announce till all parties want to. I’m surprised it hasn’t been announced yet but I can understand, as well, that there is an optimum time to make the announcement.

I am glad that it has given some of you reason to post. It’s all about the traffic, right Scott?

I don’t see a huge need for a soft as puppy ***** 15 goal scoring veteran.  Rousek could easily get there if given the ice time.  Rousak isn’t a kid.  He’s 24 and put in his time.

I’m not sure if you are calling Tatar “soft as a puppy,” but he’s not. He has a little bit of bite to his game and is sound defensively besides being a pretty good scoring winger.

I like Rousek and see him contributing but Tater is a pretty big upgrade.

I have doubts that Leinonen makes the team as anything other than the 3rd goalie. I would like to add though that for those who continually rank Östlund low or suggest he can easily be traded, Being 1c on the WJC20 for Sweden is no small task. Östlund has a ton of skills that he brings to the table and his only real issue at the moment is strength. Very interested to see what he looks like should he be on team Sweden (which is almost guaranteed)

In case you include me with those who think he can be easily traded, I understand how good he and Rosen could end up being which is why I compared trading them to Dallas sacrificing Iginla in their pursuit of the Cup.

I think that none of Helle, Saros or Hart (and probably not Demko or Markstrom) was coming here without one of those 5 coming back (including this year's #1 as a proxy for Benson in any potential pre-draft trade).

Does either of you think the Sabres could've gotten/could get at present one of those goalies for Rosen or Östlund or a 2024 #1?

Rosen & Östlund. You went from saying two of the top five to one of six and seven.

IMHO it comes down to which top prospect for which goalie.  Are you giving up 2 of Savoie, Benson, Kulich, JJP or Quinn for Hart, Markstrom, Demko, Saros, 1 year of Helle or any of the other goalies that were allegedly available?  I am not, and I think frankly only Saros gets me to part with even 1 of them.

I don’t think Quinn and Benson are even in the discussion and I do not think it would require 2 of the other 3. I’m not sure it would require any of the five.

I believe you have alluded that players have told Kevyn that they feel they are ready and want a move that shows he believes it. If he stands pat do you think that will lead to some frustration in the room?

All you have to do is read countless stories about how players appreciated when their general manager made that move to put them over the top to understand how frustrated players will be if their season goes south because of lack of upgrade. Not one player that worked their ass off to get to the NHL wants to hear about how it’s all for the greater good.

Curious about what the standing ask and offer is for Gibson, or if they’ve even made an offer on Hellebuyck.

I think we just saw in San Jose shows what happens when a big contract is forcing his way out and the team feels the prudent thing to do is comply.

Both those guys have definitely reached the “want out” stage and both come with tickets that have to depress their market and/or price.

I think you can include Demko, Saros and Markstrom as guys they got to the outline of an offer stage.

It really comes down to one question. At what point do you give away more then you want because you need one piece. I understand the hesitancy to part with a top prospect but is it fair to your team and fans for you to hold onto a guy who might not be a significant contributor for three years rather then acquire that last piece. I’m sure Dallas did not want to give up Iginla but do they win the cup without that trade!

Just curious. Why do you say that the organization's assessment of UPL is lower than their public posture? I take the opposite view. If it had a low expectation for UPL, the GM would have been more aggressive in the offseason to address the position. It's still the offseason so there's time to bring in another goalie. I just don't see it happening. My sense is that Levi and UPL are going to be our goalie tandem when the season starts.

Their internal numbers show that Comrie was actually better. They also confirm that UPL has been in the bottom tier of goaltenders in whatever league he’s been in for most of his career.

I understand that some are skeptical and I can’t provide any substantive proof.

It also doesn’t mean he can’t beat the odds and prove me wrong.

This isn’t an exact science which is one of the main reasons sports can be fun. It’s also one of the worst parts of the internet. When I was wrong before, the only proof was a bunch of drunk and/or high friends and strangers in bars. Now my mistakes are saved for eternity.

And yes, it’s exactly why I’m disappointed they haven’t been more aggressive. My concern with Adams is two fold. He seems to be too enamored with his prospects and he did so well waiting out Vegas he thinks he will have the same success acquiring a goaltender.

Like most things in life, things are rarely black and white.

I like Adams. I think he’s done terrific things and I’m more optimistic about the Sabres then I’ve been in a long time.

I’m also very disappointed in his failure to address the goaltending situation and I believe a veteran center to play between KO and Z is called for.

I also believe he still may do  something and that there are people he relies on who believe the same thing. I am 100% sure that their private assessment of UPL is considerably lower then their public posture and that gives me hope that something will happen before camp,

I also believe he failed to weaponize cap space when he had the opportunity and he misread the Ullmark situation.

Ultimately though, the good far outweigh the bad, at least in my opinion.

He has improved the D, which needed to be done.  G is a question that will be answered as the season progresses.  F is pretty well set.

I still don’t like Jost being a top 12. He was great considering he was free last year but I would be more comfortable if he was just depth and insurance in case Krebs doesn’t develop.

With so many young players the majority of the improvement should be expected to come from them gaining experience and improving...sort of like what happened with Tage and Cozens and Dahlin...can expect that next season with Power and Peterka and I would have said Quinn but unsure how the injury will impact him this year...Peterka was named the best forward at the World's this year..that is no small feat.

Filling in around them is what he should be doing not looking to bring big ticket players in unless there is a major need that he doesn't have covered

There is one major need(goalie) and a couple of important (in my mind) pieces.

We just watched Murray try this and fall flat on his face which led to needing another rebuild since all the prospects were gone and he had nothing left in the cupboards...

Fair enough and he has the talent coming up where he doesn't feel the need to.

There is a large gap between repricating what Murray did and doing what Adams appears to be content with doing.

I don't necessarily agree with this. I think he stands pat because years of empirical data show that most free agent signings are not good value for the money and the teams would probably have been better drafting and developing and signing lower priced FAs to fill roles.

When you just promoted 6-7 very highly rated prospects to your NHL roster and you STILL have the #1 rated prospect pool in the NHL why wouldn't you stick to what you are doing?

Most people agree that signing expensive, older free agents isn’t the way to go. What I’m advocating is trading some of these prospects to fill holes to speed up the process. To be clear, I’m talking about two or three piece’s depending on how some of the players develop. Their cap space advantage will go away after this year as the cap corrects itself. This off-season was the time to be aggressive.

I don’t really see a meaningful distinction between the two, in this case. Valuations includes his analysis of his prospects

But valuations aren’t an exact science. The Rangers valuation of prospects has proven wrong. Players they felt were untouchable during the Eichel negotiations may not even sniff the NHL. Even if Adams is right about the quality of his prospects, is refusing to upgrade the roster by trading guys who may never impact the NHL roster prudent? Only time will tell.

Semantics. Not wanting them enough is functionally the same as not wanting them. Of COURSE he’s in on things, are you speaking to the board at large, or me? I’ve said countless times it’s not that he’s not interested, or doesn’t try, it’s that he doesn’t break on his valuations. That’s kinda what YOU are saying, no?

It’s still a choice. If that unfolds, he couldn’t make anything happen *by choice*, because he wouldn’t break his terms.

    His chosen terms.

History shows that it’s more likely that he’s overvaluing his prospects then he’s judiciously sticking to his valuations.

And I’m not speaking just to you, but the board at large.
