If Power’s Camp wants to go short term I wonder if the better option would be is to let the year play out and see what number they would be looking for long term next summer and see if the gap is closer between the two sides

As a 10.2c RFA He doesn’t have arbitration rights and cannot receive an offer sheet so there is no risk

Hence the reason there is some hope of bridging the gap now. They have some leverage.

  2. This is such a non story but like Chad, I feel the need to explain a little bit about how this works.
These contracts are at least 90% boiler plate and 9% precedent driven. There really is not a lot to negotiate once term and AAV are agreed on. It’s why guys can sign five minutes after free agency begins. So when someone tells me that term and limit are in “non deal breaking territory” the deal is done.

The reason I was misinformed about the Ullmark deal is because Buffalo ultimately met his numbers only for Boston to swoop in after their plan A(Darcy Kuemper) became unavailable. It happens. There is nothing that can blow this deal up short of Rasmus blowing out a knee at an amusement park.

For what it’s worth, I’m hearing Owen is going to be a shorter deal. It really is the smart play for him unless Buffalo goes way high.

I truly hope Buffalo doesn't go this route. Buffalo can easily win a cup without him .

The narrative will always be if we win a cup kane got the cup for Buffalo All the media outlets will spin the ***** to no end

If Kane ends up in Buffalo, it would be in a support role and nobody will be spinning it any differently.
On the other hand, you are nothing if not consistent.

I believe Tampa did this for years. I don’t think it hurt them.

Tampa was able to partially offset this with zero state tax and quality of life but your point is well taken.

I do believe a lot of players will be potentially pissed at their agents when the cap approaches $95M/$100M and they realize they should not have signed such long term deals.

I'll add that if you put Mitts on a wing in the top 6, it gives us a chance to put Krebs as a center on the 3rd line.

    Rousek - Krebs - Greenway

    Zemgus - Jost - Okposo

Olofsson is the extra depending on how he looks in camp (I feel like Olofsson might be good for the first 2 months and then fade as the season rolls on)

I still think they want someone better between Z and Kyle but, yeah, I like your scenario better.

However, it has come up a couple of times that they need Dylan to be better defensively and more aware of the situation. If he doesn’t improve, I could see a move to the wing.

But he does give the perspective of what the rest of the league thinks of the team.

No, he gives perspective of what he thinks of them.
Look, like PA says, he has 300K followers so based on my knowledge of YouTube pay scale, he’s making about $5K per month minus expenses. Obviously people find him entertaining so good for him and for them. He doesn’t pretend to be connected but he’s obviously pretty knowledgeable about the sport.

I've watched a bunch of this guys videos in the past, he's pretty insightful on alot of the teams, obviosuly does his homework and just doesn't talk out of his ass like alot of others do or make stuff up to fit a narrative. He's spot on pretty much where we all are, too many defensemen and could definitely use help at goalie.

I think that pretty much sums it up. He’s just another fan with a bigger platform.

  8. Doing things right and the optics of it all are important. I remember picking up Eichel at the airport when Rasmus signed his first contract after getting drafted. Jack took time from his summer to fly into town just for the signing and he was cool with the whole thing. Even laughed at security who chased us because I drove past their checkpoint.

I think for at least 4 different teams.  I know Florida, TB, Ottawa, and Atlanta.

I feel like we are missing a guy or two.  Should be count Patty's stint as Sabres President?

It’s funny, Dudley was one of my favorite players and I completely forgot he was a GM

Not to mention having the Team President suffer what is unfortunately quite likely a life long debilitating injury as well.  Plus all the weather affected games.  Plus there was the Topps masacre before the season that they got involved with some of the community efforts.  ALL of those things are extremely mentally taxing and they just kept pouring on 1 after the other.

It's actually shocking that the team won 13 games in the regular season and only lost 1 game the entire year by more than a single score.

Even the radio play by play guy had a stroke. After awhile, it’s just draining.

Every organization treats these positions differently. I know Schoeny was an assistant gm and I think for awhile the team had no gm do you have to be careful how open the parameters are.

I don’t know the answer to this question (yet), but how many former Sabre players have served as GM’s in the NHL? And who are they?

    Gerry Meehan

    Mike Grier

    Daniel Briere

    Chris Drury

there are probably more but that’s obviously the easy list

Funny you should mention M*A*S*H; been "watching" that to fall asleep to the past few months.  The 1st 6 seasons were absolutely brilliant.  7 & 8 were still good way more often than not but have just started on season 10 and not sure will make it through to the end of the Alan Aldafication of what had been a brilliant TV series.

Yeah, it probably lasted a little longer then it should have but I don’t remember there being a lot of alternatives back then.

Well thank you.  Now onto the next question:

Just who was Tom Webster?  Your answer should be between 500 and 700 words, written in clear and cogent English, and include a conclusion about how the life of Tom Webster affected your understanding of the Korean conflict.

Coincidentally, Tom’s nickname was “Hawkeye” which leads me to Alan Alda in MASH which may sum up my understanding of the Korean Conflict.

I will work on it, someday.

It's not much of a Buffalo connection.  Here, I'll release the hint early because I'm about to get in the car...

Lindy Ruff flew at the guy and tackled him once.

I think GA had it based on an exchange in my DMs.  Did you?

    Indeed.

That’s why I included “but” in my answer. Lindt’s tackle was precipitated by a butt end just below his eye.
