More clarification: Waiver exemption applies to the club that has the player on their OWN reserve list. So if Avs signed him he wouldn't need to clear waivers because he's on their reserve list. If Calgary signed him (which they did by offer sheet) he would need to clear because he's not on their reserve list. Insert caveat: The Avs could have moved O'Reilly to Calgary's reserve list (for future considerations or something, wink wink) and he wouldn't need to clear waivers for Calgary to get him. I am so done with this soap opera today.
