And for whatever it's worth. As the B&G I, they made it sound like they were running w/ UPL as the clear starter and Levi getting in all the btb's and some others when travel is an issue. This likely only means Levi (& UPL too have to earn it. Which is a good thing. Internal competition makes everyone better. (Even if it is only Reimer. Still better than Comrie or Tokarski.)
-
IF you expect to be shuffling, you send him down initially so he clears Waivers when there are several 100 other players on Waivers. You then get to have him back up for IIRC OTTOMH 10 games or 30 days w/out having to clear again. Would be mid-November in all likelihood before you have to revisit it. But personally don't expect them to be shuffling. Either Levi clearly beats him out (and possibly UPL too) or he goes back to Ra-cha-cha to tear up the AHL. Assuming Levi goes down, revisit the decision periodically, but if Reimer is winning most of his handful of games they maintain that status quo. If Levi starts out a Sabre; it only gets revisited if he or UPL falter. Doubt they'd jerk Reimer around. But we shall see. (Personally, would prefer that. Getting both UPL & Levi a lot of starts & Levi the games UPL doesn't get. But they didn't ask this kid. And realistically, they can't screw Reimer around.)
-
Of course not. They're tied for 1st right now. 😉
-
Except for possible issues of jet lag after the trip, they are set for a potential fast start. Can't F it up. The out west trip is theoretically where they bond as a team. (Preferably after a good start at home.) No excuses.

Must be an AHL signing. @Brawndo doesn't always lower himself to scoop everyone on those. 😉

So close, not Ruff. Jason Karmanos. The only Q is will the PoHO's he reports to be Adams or Ruff. And if it's Adams then Ruff is a special advisor or some such thing.
-
They need to win in Buffalo. If Levi is clearly better than Reimer he should be in Buffalo WHEN he'll actually be getting games. In that case if they're in a stretch where they expect UPL to be getting all/ nearly all the starts; have Reimer up. If Levi isn't clearly better than Reimer, let him work on his game in Ra-cha-cha. And give Reimer the ones that they don't want to use UPL (definitely btb's and maybe some others. And if Levi beats out UPL (not likely, Ruff has UPL penciled in; but slightly possible) then run w/ him & UPL unless something really hirrific towards the plan happens. Let their play dictate the outcomes. Easy peasy.

One thing to keep in mind on the Girgensons deal is it MIGHT just be a 1 or 2 year deal where he gets his full $s this year and maybe next & them he gets 2/3 of what's left the last year (or 2). Which makes the deal $1.1MM/yr x2 or ~$2MM x1 yr. (That's what they were reportedly trying to do w/ Stamkos - low $/yr x 8 years w/ a buyout after 2 or 3 years.)
-
It very well could. At a minimum, it's somebody Levi has to actually beat out to be a Sabre. And, if it does put Levi in Ra-cha-cha, it MIGHT mean UPL plays better.

Sabres Sign Jason Zucker to a One Year 5 Million AAV Deal
Taro T replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Bolding is your friend. At a minimum, you could have the courtesy to ... what you've removed. So people not reading every post realize there's a very good chance that what you highlighted wasn't necessarily the meat of the quoted post and possibly was even counter to what was actually meant. -
Cool. All that was said on they're website was: By Jourdon LaBarber @jourdonlabarber Sabres.com 8:55 AM The Buffalo Sabres have signed goaltender James Reimer to a one-year contract worth $1 million, the team announced Monday. Reimer, 36, went 11-8-2 with a .904 save percentage and two shutouts in 25 games last season with the Detroit Red Wings. The 14-year veteran has a .910 save percentage in 501 career regular-season games and is tied for 10th among active goaltenders with 215 wins. He has had a save percentage of .900 or higher in all but one seasons. No mention of 1 way or 2 way. The Filly cast-off is definitely on a 2 way deal.

Well, when it often leads to what was said being completely out of context, yes, it is a bad thing. -
You sure it's a 2 way deal? Not showing that way on CF just yet. Especially if it isn't, doubt he'd get claimed getting sent down. Though it's obviously aa possibility.

Not positive about that. But the position is likely closer to being adequately filled. Thus having written: (Not completely analogous because Byram, Clifton, Samuelsson, or Johnson could be.) in the post you partially (as is typical for you) quoted. -
Cool. He's nothing special, but at least the kids aren't being handed jobs and if either falters, he should be at least servicable.
-
Well, actually they're just under that, but IF it isn't so much age as NHL experience that's the key to guys hitting their primes, well these 2 should be hitting it this year. (Giving Quinn credit for being in the NHL through osmosis most of last year. 😉 )
-
They very likely are short 1 player - the middle 6C that has a 2 way game and isn't a black hole offensively. And still hope they find that guy this off-season. But am not particularly hopeful. If they don't, by mid-season, either Krebs may be finally putting it together, or more likely one of Savoie, Kulich, or Östlund, or less likely Helenius or a midseason trade could fill that role long enough for a trade deadline add to upgrade it. Am only expecting 40 goals from the 3rd line. Competence at C there would go a long way towards achieving that.
-
Only anticipating 2 guys hitting/breaking 30. Also, not particularly including any goals from fill ins in that total. Not even anticipating 20 out of Benson. A Ra-cha-cha callup can make up a reasonable portion of the lost production from MOST of them. Provided Thompson, Quinn, & Dahlin aren't among the serious injuries, they should be fine in the goal scoring regard. The PP won't be hot garbage. That's worth a fair amount of goals too.
-
Maybe 40 is more likely that originally thought? Still would only bank on 35.
-
And wouldn't be surprised, should they stay healthy, that they're back up to 260 GF over the full year. 270 if the 3C can contribute more than Krebs is possible too. Knocking even just 6 GA off over the full year and that's +20 - +30 goal differential. Can't have a step back from either goalie, but that's not out of the question either.
-
A healthy Quinn gets at least 20 more goals, maybe 26 more. But wouldn't bank on more than 35 from Thompson which would only be 6 more from him. Would be great if he got to 45 or so again, but unless they're really clicking on the PP personally am not counting on it.

Sabres Sign Defensemen Dennis Gilbert and Jacob Bryson
Taro T replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
There are, but how is signing another guy for the Amerks or to be the 8 should Henri go away one of them? Not EVERYBODY associated w/ the Pegulas nor Sabres suck at their jobs. -
You should also like his liking TO's moves then. 😉

Am really wondering just how much of a playoffs or else those year Adams actually has. It's been said by some of our very tied in posters that it is there, but watching the events of this past week, really am not certain that's the case. Do expect they WANT to make the playoffs (absolutely do believe it's a goal) but not nearly convinced it's THE goal. Rather, after watching the events of this past week am noticing how many similarities there are to Regier's "there will be suffering" teardown & rebuild as there are to THIS rebuild. In that one, the team was torn down to the studs to get Reinhart & McDavid & rebuild from there with a crazily stupid # of pucks, They didn't luck into McDavid & after the debacle that was Ron Rolston Regier had to be punted. (Personally felt as soon as he promised suffering heshould've been gone, but that's neither here nor there.) But really believe the plan was to use all the picks and keep moat all the prospects & grow into a perennial contender about 4 years afterEichel & all the other kids showed up. When Regier went away they switched gears to the accelerated rebuild. But that wasn't the plan ownership originally bought into. They bought into (or maybe they or their Pittsburgh cronies came up w/ it ; and it being the brainchild of the Pittsburgh crew makes sense, especially the way Regier was thrown underthe bus early in that '13-'14 season) the suffering plan. Watching this all play out now, can't help but believe Adams convinced Terry that the plan would've succeeded with some tweaks. And it seems the target date to be perennial contenders was on Dahlin's timeline (& that slid a year or 2 when Ullmark walked). Stink out of the gate, but generally improve every year & by year 4 or 5 (counting Eichel trade as day 0) be legit playoff contenders & legit SC contenders by the year or 2 after that. THAT seems to be the plan Pegula bought into. Hate that that seems to be the plan, and maybe it isn't, but it sure seems to be the case. Because, so far the only clear difference is that Adams was smart enough to never utter the word suffering nor fail to remain upbeat about where they are. Please tell me Östlund & Rosen, Krebs & a protected 1st are going out the door for SOMETHING GOOD later this month & will believe we aren't watching them try to prove Regier right that this can work. But short of that, or them missing the playoffs sitting at 97 points & Adams getting punted, will believe we're 60% of the way through "Suffering Pt2".

In the fans eyes, it'll be scorching. No data on whether it will be in ownerships eyes. Depends on how big the stumble is.
