  1. But still a lot of new pieces being forced into their lineup. Personally would rather have the lineup that's coming back intact than the one that looks improved on paper. (But sure as #### would really like to see a better goalie to pair with Levi. (Gee, really? Nobody around here EVER says that. 😄)
  2. When the Sabres went from Presidents Trophy to losing their 2 best (arguably 3 best) C's to FA they fell ~23 points in the standings. The Bruins losing their 2 best C's and a solid D-man to a division rival could very well lose 24-30 points. That will still have them in the playoffs. They have to lose more like 20 more games than last year to miss the dance. Might happen, but absolutely wouldn't have money on it. (Not arguing with you. Just your post seemed like a good spot to put this response into the thread.)
  3. Regier should've offered Roy for him when he had the chance. 😄
  4. And it's part of why keeping UPL up all year and rarely looking at what they had in Comrie was so frustrating. They now STILL don't know if either of them can adequately address the backup role. If they KNEW Comrie was nothing more than he appeared last year, it's far easier for them to convince themselves that the 3 headed monster MIGHT work. If they KNEW Comrie could handle a 2 games every 5 workload adequately, then we the fans wouldn't be going AS nuts about nothing happening in net except the emergency goalie swapping from the backup anthem singer to a guy that's been adequate in the emergency goalie role in the past.
  5. There probably is. But who cares? Keep posting the way you see things and if somebody disagrees either engage or ignore. (Or better, engage and then ignore. 😉 )
  6. Big whoop. No Rags fan would've traded Lafreniere for Eichel straight up. Fans tend to overvalue their own. (Or make them into whipping boys.) And not saying that Quinn won't be better than Lafreniere when all is said and done. Actually expect him to be significantly better. But as IIRC @dudacek said, it's not exactly coming out of left field to view Lafreniere as the better player at this point. (It isn't correct IMHO but it can be supported.)
  7. No doubt. Script writers, marketers, and politicians SHOULD all go the way of the buggy whip makers.
  8. Teams have been doing this for at least the last 2 seasons. As long as the league and PA both agree to look the other way, this will be SOP. It's OK though, certainly the league will change its stance about the time the Sabres are in a position to need to do it themselves. 🤬
  9. Wouldn't be shocked if the B's miss the playoffs, but would definitely be surprised. Yes, they're F's are a mess right now (minus Pastarnak and the 70 or so yo Rat Faced Git) but the D and G are still solid to very good.
  10. Won't be common moving forward but having the writers guild and the screen actors guild out on strike will further delay things for the near term.
  11. Doesn't change the fact that Gare, Schoenny, & even Sauve to a degree were loved by the fans and it hurt a lot to see them leave. Fortunately, Foligno became as beloved by the fanbase. He was fun.
  12. FTFY. If the house of cards wasn't so close to collapsing, Peca might not have become an Aisle. But if he did have to move on because bridges had been torched, he could have turned into Jerome Iginla. Either being in house gets the Sabres a Stanley Cup Championship.
  13. They have 48 hours after whatever is the last potential arbitration settlement they could walk away from gets awarded (or finalized, it's possible they could come to an agreement before actually getting to arbitration with that last one. So, if Samsonov is the only Loaf heading to arbitration or there are no more Loafs heading to arbitration that the Loafs could potentially walk away from that later arbitration award, then yes, they need to have made a decision by now. But if somebody else is player elected arbitration eligible and there is a possibility of the contract award being big enough then they still have time to make a decision.
  14. Have met a bunch through the years but the 1st time meeting any happened a LONG time ago when Don Luce and Craig Ramsay came out to our new town park to hang out with our Cub Scout troop. Believe they were only expected to stay 20 minutes or so, but stayed a good hour or 2. Most everybody got to speak to them and everybody got their autographs. (No friggin' clue where those 2 slips of paper ended up, sadly.) Really great guys and will remember that day forever. The other particularly cool one wasn't meeting a Sabre, but rather THE Voice of the Sabres. In Middle School there was a career day the one year and somebody managed to get Mr. Darling to show up and talk about his job and tell some really cool stories about it. That was another particularly fun one.
  15. Not a license, a boater safety certificate. Sit through a full day course and then take a test. You are then good forever. (There is currently no plan for the certification to expire.) And it won't just be for motorized watercraft; sailors will need to have the certification as well. (Believe about the only exceptions are rowboats and paddle boards. Essentially if the watercraft doesn't need to be registered in NYS and doesn't tow anything/anyone, you don't need to have the certification to operate it. Don't have a copy of the booklet that came with the course handy or could've said exactly what craft don't require it. And there are some carveouts on the other end of the spectrum as well. Most commercial operators don't need the certification because they're registered under Federal regulations and a couple others classes don't either because of the licensing / training those operators have to go through is significantly more rigorous than the new NYS Parks and Recreation (and Historical Preservation) certification program is.) Many people have already been required to do this as minors looking to operate a non-commercial watercraft have had that requirement for several years. Believe there will still be a carveout for people renting boats / jet skis provided the shop renting the equipment out makes the operator sit through a much shorter spiel. And provided it is for a "short term" rental.
  16. Yes, but by preceding AAV with the word actual, his "short-hand" is actually 3 characters (counting blank spaces) longer than simply writing "cap hit."
  17. Hart and DeBrusk would be 2 very good adds that should work with what Adams is doing currently. And agree those moves on top of the additions on D should have the Sabres battling for 3rd and well above the WC fray. But still believe this team, as constructed (hopefully even with Quinn out ~3 months), should be a 98 point team which should be good enough. But personally hate the idea of having no margin for error.
  18. Why would somebody quote the "AAV" aka the Average Annual Value of a 1 year bonus-ineligible contract? When you divide the sum of any single number by 1 it ends up the same. Would've been more fun had he provided the "median" or even the mean or the mode. (Hint: they all have a face value of $1,670,000.) (Not directed at you @Brawndo, but Mr. Seravalli.) Especially when he uses the term "actual" before AAV. Will bet nearly any amount of money that DeAngelo doesn't ACTUALLY end up with $1,670,000 after everything is prorated to 50% of HRR.
  19. Apparenlty Hines injury occurred while he was sitting on a jet ski and another jet skier crashed into his jet ski. Yikes!
  20. Looks like the Bills will be going with plan B at KO/P returner. Bummer.
  21. Why, because there are always late adds to the or-gan-eye-zay-shun, when camps are ready to open and then as teams shuffle around to set their lineups. Am not expecting a lot (1-3 is the expectation) but there will still be some more. And as stated in the OP, no idea if they'll be moves for the Sabres, the Amerks, or both. E.g., should Adams find that 4C faceoff/PK specialist that would be a very nice piece to add that would improve both rosters as either Rousek or Jost would find himself starting the year in Ra-cha-cha.
  22. Expecting, though don't know for certain, that the league is allowing the players that ended the season on BF-LTIR to still be considered to be on BF-LTIR so they aren't being included in a calculation of the Loafs current cap hit. If they were included, they Loafs would be more than $11MM over the cap when they're only allowed to be ~$8.4MM over the cap. Though that is in direct contradiction to how the CBA is written, it does seem to be the way the league is handling injured players. As long as the NHLPA is buying off on it (and they seem to be), then expect that is how the league will continue to handle this moving forward.
  23. They did miss by 1 point last year. But am hoping and expecting that they know they need to be 7-8 points better to be a playoff team. (1 point better MIGHT be good enough. But would be willing to make a small wager that 92 points won't be good enough again.)
  24. That may be the view some here have, but am quite certain that Adams doesn't agree with that. Playoffs this year are a goal of his. (Note, said they are A goal, not THE goal.) And completely agree that Adams knows that nobody will find an 86 point season acceptable. Am nearly certain that there will still be more moves this summer. Just have no good feel whatsoever whether they're moves that'll help Ra-cha-cha, Buffalo, or both.
  25. Oldest would likely be Gionta. For a long time, Schoenfeld was the youngest. Not sure if Eichel tops him. Would guess that Jack has him by a few days but don't honestly know. Audette was the captain for 1 game in B&G but then was captain again a few times in his second stint w/ the Sabres.
