Certainly appreciate the perspective! I won't get into the "promises" the new gen nukes are making regarding timelines, they even sound silly to me and I am in it - but the goals are to get it down to the gas range you specify above. I know of at least one nuke company that is attempting to address the baseload vs peak load by incorporating energy storage (molten salt) borrowed from the solar industry. Recharge the storage tanks during off-peak, discharge storage during peaks for a load-following effect that may mimic having two types of generation available.
