I agree, it shouldn’t have been a factor but it often is. It’s rare to leave a series of interviews with a slam dunk candidate and when it’s close, people tend to go with familiarity.
-
Yes I think about that as well. I am quite sure that Boetrill is well spoken, bright and engaging. Very different than Murray. Terry was smitten with landing a Pittsburgh guy, a former Sabre, and I guess he won a bunch of non-NHL Championships that Terry liked to tout. None of this should have been criteria to me but maybe to Terry it was? Zito would have inherited ROR, Eichel, and Reinhart.

Sabres looking for Senior Advisor for Adams and Hockey Department
JohnC replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
The unknown for me is the relationship between the Senior Advisor and the GM. What is the power balance when there is a difference of opinion on players and other issues such as contracts? Whose voice will be more influential if an issue is brought to the owner, whether he wants to stay engaged or not. There certainly could be a lot of upsides for the GM to have a wise sounding board to discuss issues with. Who has the last say? In general, I would think that the GM would be the final authority, but I'm not sure it would be so in this case because our GM has lost some stature due to his performance in office. -

So Pegula was ahead of his time with Harbor Center then? Do teams like Boston, Montreal, Detroit and Toronto have anything even as nice as Harbor Center? Maybe Pegula or Gueli will look at what Florida has and consider a Harbor Center upgrade/expansion since they already have a nice facility downtown and right next to the Arena and they can expand the facilities upward or nearby. I still think showing a real commitment to winning and then actually winning and getting into the tournament is the only way. -
I know people hate what if’s, but that was the biggest turning point of TPEGS tenure. If he picks Zito, who was the other finalist, the legacy is so much different. I’m sure the Pittsburgh connection was the deciding factor.

I mention the bat and it conjures up Eleven (no one fact check the timing; it's 2025 and facts don't matter). I'm tellin' ya, that bat idea will return EVERYTHING Sabres to glory. - Today

I read that as “tax” camps and spent ten minutes of my life wondering why lacrosse players had special insight into tax laws.😔 -

Sounds you'd want Cole Beaudoin and Matias Maccelli. If Adams could pull it off sure but not sure he could. -
Sabres looking for Senior Advisor for Adams and Hockey Department

Rick Dudley is great at what he does but he is notoriously abrasive and difficult to work with. He would be a great addition to the front office but I don’t think he’d bring a lot of people with him. Florida has been the perfect spot for him because he’s out of the spotlight. His joining the Sabres would also be a sign that Terry is willing to back away because Duds isn’t coming here without those assurances. On a personal note, I’d love it. One of my all time favorites, I still remember the day that Punch admitted letting him go to the WHA was his biggest regret as Sabres’ GM. He was that team’s JP Dumont. They underestimated what his toughness and drive meant to the mid-70’s Sabres in the same way Darcy did with Dumont. -

Who are we competing with you say. We have our answer.... -
Who Y'all got today? Roope Hintz injury lingering, and Marchmant kinda gave the "we won't forget" speech to reporters. I think Dallas comes through today for some odd reason.

Smith is interesting. I don't agree he's a type we don't have. Still, you're trading at worst a 35pt top 4 defender for a lesser defender, and a B level prospect. I think Utah would have to add. I also think offers for Byram might be higher. Recent trades make me think he's worth 3 assets. Decent roster player, good prospect, sweetener. -

I agree Byram is better hence looking for a prospect back. I brought up Smith as he one that gives us a type we don't have. -

Kesselring really only had 1 good season and only has about 2 seasons of play. I think Byram is worth more. He's younger, way more experience, way more points. -

Without a doubt, there are rugged defenders than can be puck carriers. However, their acquisition costs are much higher (if available) than a more conservative defender in his zone. In my view, we need maybe two of those more physical defenders to recast the unit. And those type of players should be more attainable than the more valued rugged defender who can carry the puck. For the most part, we're not disagreeing here. The issue is what more doable. We have a good asset in Byram. I like him a lot but we need to remold the blueline to better balance out the unit. When you have an overlapping asset then use it smartly to fill a need. -

JohnC replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
If you believe that the Russian will be contributing in a year or so, I would say no. I would rather trade Bryam for some immediate help on the blueline, a defenseman who has different attributes (rugged) than a puck carrying defenseman. With the assets that this organization has there are no excuses for not adding two defensemen to the unit that change the character of it. And it should be noted, contrary to the group thinking here I would prefer keeping Samuelsson. At least for now. -

They also have Lamoreaux and Lavoie in the pipe who are rhd. There could be a deal there. Idk how to balance it out though. -

Sergachev is their top lefty but they have an aged Ian Cole (36) as their #2 lefty whose contract ends next year. -

Could have had Cossa but Forton. I literally can draft better than the Sabres and I'm some dipshit on a message board. Do they need a lefty? I feel like their right hand situation is good. -

Anyone think we could pry away Michael Kesselring from Utah for Byram? As he's a right hander, good point production as a bottom pair but also gets his nose dirty with PIMs. I think he's more of a top 4 tbh. Might be good complement to Power.
