Today is the day.. they can establish a new lowest point in franchise history. It's important to have goals, in this case the good news is that the Sabres can achieve them without having to actually score goals.

There is no reason to keep 3 goalies. UPL has not been good. Ellis has not been good. Pick one and move on. Also start Lyon, the season went to hell when Ruff or Adams or whomever decided that UPL and Ellis needed 9 out of every 10 starts.

I'll have to hammer the Oilers ML tonight. Not great odds but still it's nearly an automatic win for the Oil. The Sabres suck and they're not sweeping Edmonton this season.

For those of you clamoring for Don Granato or another Sabres coach... lets examine what the league thinks of them Granato - not employed in the NHL, nor as a coach anywhere he does part time analysis on Sirius XM Housley - Not in the NHL or in coaching Kreuger - nothing listed for current employment Bottom line, not one recent coach even has a job in the NHL anymore... Granato and Kruger didnt even get a look, Housley was fired twice as an assistant in a few years and is out of the league... Ruff is clearly not all that and I believe when he is fired the inevitable will be he is out of the NHL as well... this is not a referendum on these men... but it is an observation that NHL execs certainly are not clamoring to give these guys a job... like any job... Ruff in his day was very good... but he is out of touch I believe and just looks plain old tired... like I cant fix this... please fire me soon... Bottom line Adams coaching hires (or Pegula's I am not sure) are uninspired, lack competence and are clearly not in demand for literally any job in this league... Is Muckler still alive? I know Scottie lives in Williamsville still on the transit Valley golf course... maybe he can coach via zoom call like we do our scouting...

The Sabres have lost 13 games by giving up 4 or more goals. They only have 2 games where they scored 6 or more so that's not really inflating their totals much. You are arguing that without a player like Peterka we simply are not scoring enough. We are scoring enough, but we cannot and have not for years been able to stop other teams. We needed a 20% reduction in goals against to make the playoffs, right now we are on pace for 291 goals against, 2 more than the 29th worst Buffalo Sabres were last year. TBF I ran the numbers the other way as well, we are running at a 249goal pace which is 20g less than last year. So Buffalo is actually worse at allowing goals (because the goaltending is ATROCIOUS) and they aren't scoring as much as last year. Half of the Eastern Conf playoff teams last year were close to 249goals (252, 242, 245, 243) but 0 of them were anywhere near 289ga. The closest was Montreal at 265ga and no other playoff team in the East was over 234ga.

My give a crp meter is also low but I’ll watch them all and hope the cavalry is coming to save this franchise.

Seriously, does anyone even care at this point? Injuries don't matter anymore. Every single solitary aspect of this organization is beyond terrible. Face it, there is no fixing this team. I would LOVE to know out of the now 15 years they have missed the playoffs, how many times were they 8 points or more out of 8th before January even started. Sadly, at that point, the Sabres can bring up some of Ra-cha-cha's ECHL callups because it just won't matter in Buffalo at that point. But it might matter in Ra-cha-cha. Also, don't know if a player on an emergency callup isn't considered to still be on the AHL roster for purposes of the AHL playoff roster deadline. It's possible (unlikely, but possible) that they'd still be included on the AHL roster because though they'd be in the NHL they aren't quite fully in the NHL (even if they're playing).

Considering how horrible this team is at entries with an outmanned situation, it couldn't be any worse than what they've been doing. Personally, would still pull the goalie, but not until they have control of the puck in the other team's zone. And would have to figure out just what the logistics of it would be, but might get the goalie back in the net when the other team dumps the puck down the ice and repull him after they have control in the other end again. Would work it a bit like a lax line change, obviously you don't want the goalie being the one trying to retrieve the puck from coming off the bench, but have the 2nd or 3rd guy back into the zone go to the bench instead up near the F's door and as soon as he's off the ice have the goalie race out from the other door. Let him come up ice towards the bench as the puck goes back up ice, but he doesn't actually go to the bench until they have control. So, it'd be a hybrid goalie pull. They'd still give up a fair # of ENGs, but not as many; and maybe the extra mechanics would add to the sense of urgency of the guys on the ice. At this point am willing to watch them try almost anything provided Appert isn't drawing it up.

I am preparing myself for a Thompson trade in the off season. I want to be wrong as I fear we will trade a potential future HoF player (see Eichel, Reinhart, ...) His interview last night made me think he is just denying the depth of the problems to get through another miserable season. He cannot really believe they played good enough to win and just needed better breaks. It was a desperate effort by him to try to find a positive when there was none. His line has been really bad for several games in a row and he is fighting himself out there. I am going to suggest he play wing with McLeod at center, adding a more responsible defensive player to his line. Take Greenway off that line.

The NHL has that "to his team" language for the Hart Memorial Trophy. It definitely muddies the waters.

The Sabres have always done a good job of shutting McDavid down, so there's very little reason to watch. At this point I'm hoping they get swept on this trip with the hope it'll result in the entire front office being canned, but that's wishful thinking.

If Östlund is called back up, he will have flown from Winnipeg to Toronto, taken a car service to Rochester. Then taken a bus ride from Rochester to Belleville for tomorrow’s game. Then fly from Ottawa to Vancouver to meet the team on Thursday.

True, but I have a feeling that decent goalies would be less decent playing behind this team. They are careless with the puck in their zone and the don't fight hard enough to win loose puck battles. Breakouts are much too casual. Turnovers are becoming more frequent. Henrik Lunqvist explained it as politely as it can be said. Playing team defense is hard and they don't seem to want to do it.

Appreciate the efforts on the possible scenarios. Lots of permutations with 4 weeks remaining. I’ve seen some scenarios if the Bills go 3-1, regardless of winning the East, they are 5 seed and play at Pittsburgh. Only downside is playing Denver if they were to win. Currently, if season ended today, it would a road game againt Jacksonville as a #6 seed, with the winner playing NE or HOU. Talk about a tough home game for New Englands glorious return to the playoffs. Delicious. Either way, three road games as a wildcard and not seeing KC would be the road not taken. As mentioned above - best case to win the East lies with the Bills staying hot, winning all 4 and the Pats falling to Miami.
