Damn, 3-3 now. Amerks to the PP.

Not sure what the deal is with FloHockey, but the score read 3-3 a few minutes ago and now it’s back to 3-2. Perhaps they disallowed the goal? Tough keeping track of both games.

Bridgeport scores the game winner with 36 seconds to go in the 3rd to win it 5-4. I totally jinxed Leinonen after the first period with the Amerks leading 3-0.

I've seen enough of Leinonen. This is not a good goalie. Certainly not a goalie ready for the AHL. He was abysmal tonight and single handedly cost the Amerks 2 points. Ratzlaff needs to come up. He's a big body with seemingly no actual goaltending skills. He reminds me of a less talented UPL.

I thought he looked good in his game against Cleveland, but I have to agree with your overall assessment.

What? No, it can't be!

I still hope to be wrong about him.

Leinonen was decent in Hartford last week. But tonight was abysmal.  But you’re right, I don’t think he’s ready for the AHL yet.

And yet he’s still better than Georgiev.

A 21 year old goalie who has played 6 games in North America. Perhaps it’s a bit too early for that write off?

A quick look at his numbers in Europe show a pretty definitive view of a goalie who is never good at any level. His save percentages are usually below .900 even in European leagues where those numbers are often inflated. Sometimes sports isn't overly complicated. He's done a poor job stopping the puck pretty much anywhere he goes.

Meanwhile Ratzlaff has been great in Jacksonville, and he deserves a chance.

If you look at his Elite Prospects page, pre-draft year he posted good numbers as a younger goalie. This, plus his size, are likely what had him as a higher rated goalie prospect in his draft year. He was ok last year in the Swedish 2nd league. The Sabres are moving heaven and earth to make sure Levi doesn’t get a sniff of the NHL this season. Leinonen is two full years (plus a month) younger than Levi, which means he is likely 2-3 full seasons away from being thought of for the NHL. Clearly there are reasons to be skeptical of his NHL potential, but there is still lots of runway. He should probably be in Europe or the ECHL this year though.

Ratzlaff is clearly more polished and is the more appropriate goalie to have in the AHL right now. Playing Leinonen once a week is doing him or the Amerks no favors. This is simply poor management by a GM who should've been fired a while ago.

I don't understand why they didn't leave Leinonen where he was in Finland.
