Perhaps, but my thing is not necessarily getting the “Best” player in a trade, but rather the “Right” player.  IMHO - this team still needs different types of players (ex. Stay at home defender, tougher forwards who have some offensive skill who will have teammates backs, etc.). These aren’t necessarily “Best” players from a talent standpoint, but could fill important needs and not have NMC’s.

I think this is fair... it may not be that they have more points... etc... but If we trade a top 3 forward with upside  for 1/2 pairing Dman great... a 2/3 pairing Dman then I think you over all decrease your level of talent and hurt the team more than help...  I do agree with you on the needs part..  So if we are saying we are going to trade away a top 3 offensive player scoring 70pts for one that scores 50 - 55 and plays both ends and begins to change the complexion and the culture of the team... I would say we got the best player in the trade for us... I am with you there... Its when you trade the 70 pt guy with upside for an oft injured player that scores 55pts doesnt play in both ends of the rink and get a 2nd rounder in 2026 to make up for it I have the issues.

I think you are right and it is unlikely we get "the best player in the deal". I mean, Byram and Peterka are near the top of pretty much any published "trade board".  There is one player whose name has frequently come up as possibly available, who I would say is better than Peterka or Byram, and that's Jason Robertson.  Some people would put Dobson in there, and I wouldn't strenuously argue against it, but I'm not fully convinced on that one. How can we get the better player in a deal, when we are the team that is apparently trading two potential star players, aged 24 and 23, that 1/2 of the league covets? Peterka and Byram are almost certainly going to be "the better player in the deal".

I recognize that some folks may be sick of rants about how bad of a GM Kevyn Adams is. But, it really is impossible to overstate how ridiculous of a situation the Sabres are in. 14 years out of the playoffs and 4.5 years into a rebuild being run by a 1st time GM. Back to back years of regression during this rebuild with mountains of unused cap space. The GM's stated primary reasons for not using the cap space is that he did not want to pay the high draft/prospect cost of acquisition, and he did not want to create a scenario where he could not extend his up and coming players due to not having sufficient future cap space. And, here we are, with a 24 year old and a 23 year old who much of the rest of the league wants, and who may want out of Buffalo, and whose projected salaries at the higher end would put us right at or possibly over the cap, and we never had the benefit of winning before we had to make tough roster/cap decisions. It's incredible...in the worst way.

I agree, we all know its horrific and the team is unwatchable too many nights... but do we really understand the extent of the damage done that is preventing us from turning this around... I fear that is way worse than the team performance itself...

Rangers have the Pens the 12th pick this year to complete the JY Miller trade meaning they keep their 26 1st round pick. Wondering if they are maneuvering for a JJ offer sheet July 1st.

We'll just match

I mean, highest ceiling no.  Buy I love his tenaciousness.  Changing the culture starts with that for me.

Winning changes the culture. You don't wanna Tyler Boucher this.

'Very tough team to deal with' is so open to interpretation.

'I can't believe anyone would think Peterka is worth that much' or 'It's frustrating because they won't give me Peterka for spare parts'

Sabres became a joke when Terry bought the bills

Sad, embarrassing - we shouldn’t be giving this team the time of day.

alas

It's embarrassing the Sabres are using the best facilities available to them?

Just seems like a weird hill to die on

I can see that for sure.  He seems better than Boucher.

He is, but is he better than Misa or Hagens or Desnoyers?

I like Martin, he's a good hockey player. I'm not convinced he's going to be one of the top 5 from this draft at the end of it.

Fair enough.   No he's not better than Misa, Hagens or Desnoyers.  I just find his engine and his away from puck play to be a glaring hole in what this team has missed outside of a few cases (Benson).

It’s true- but when the team has been completely terrible in all facets for 5 years it really really pushes the bounds of believability to suppose the “difficulty” can be construed in any way as something that facilitates positive results for our club

We find the franchise difficult to deal with, too, no? I sense a fairly overlapped Venn diagram

I’ll keep saying it - there’s a conflict of interest with the fans, the organization doesn’t have the same goals. I’d imagine that would also be a nightmare to deal with for other GMs - we aren’t playing the same game

JUST ANSWER THE ***** QUESTION FOR ONCE.  BE DEFINITIVE.  I loathe Adams.

Typical political answer any I'm would give. If you read between the lines - discussions have and are being had on all fronts
