He'd be a steal at $5M/yr Don't be silly. He turns the puck over sometimes and occasionally botches a defensive assignment. Therefore, he sucks. The fact that every other defenseman who eats minutes does the same is irrelevant. Also, he's European, so he inherently cares less and is lazier than others. Can't forget that! But the Hoff is a legit top-pairng defence man, who will look a hell of a lot better when we get forwards who can think the game at his level. St. Louis is the best team in the league and the kid was playing top pair minutes at age 19 against the Blues' top (scoring) line players.
