Martin fetches a first-round pick Buffalo uses to select Tom Barrasso in 1983. Luce, sadly, brings only a sixth-rounder and cash. March 10, 2000 The Sabres trade Michal Grosek to Chicago for Doug Gilmour and J.P. Dumont. They also send Wayne Primeau, Brian Holzinger, Cory Sarich and a third-round pick in the upcoming draft for Chris Gratton and a second-round pick in 2001. March 10, 2002 The Sabres bomb former teammate Dominik Hasek from the nets as they defeat the Red Wings at sold-out HSBC Arena, 5-1. I was at that Hasek game...sat 5 rows behind his net...one of the best games at the HSBC ever...that Gratton goal was priceless That Grosek trade still baffles me... But Darcy did fix the "Gratton Problem," didn't he? Yep, you kind of pine for the days when Darcy would regularly fleece his counterparts. What happened? Did word get out? Do the addition of Gratton + 4th round pick for Briere + 3rd pick, you get: Wayne Primeau + Holzinger + Sarich + 3rd rd pick + 4th rd pick = 2nd rd pick + Briere + 3rd rd pick This equation reduces to: Primeau + Holzinger +Sarich + 4th = Briere + 2nd Figure Sarich + Holzinger might be enough to cover talented Briere, and you still get a 2nd rd pick for mere Primeau and a 4th rd pick. Net gain for Sabres. Hey, do the hasek equation... that seemed to work out fairly well for the team that the blackhawks traded with. Same with the mogilny deal.
