Here's the story from the Columbus paper after the incident:

At 5:21 of the second period, with the Blue Jackets leading the Stars 1-0, Peca was tripped up by Dallas forward Brenden Morrow, who swung his left leg -- and possibly his stick -- under Peca's right leg and sent him sailing.

Moments later, as Peca was getting up off the ice. Morrow redirected a Mike Rebeiro shot to score a power-play goal

Peca immediately skated behind the goal to plead his case with Kimmerly, who began skating in the other direction.

"The only contact was me grabbing his arm to slow him down," Peca said, "because he was skating away and I wanted to plead my case.

"They've claiming I hit (a) linesman with my stick after I hit the glass with it, which is completely false."

The man with the mullet knows, "that's a no no".

 Wow that's an oldy but goody

At about the 1:15 mark. It looks like Peca grabbed the pussified ref's arm so he could get in front of him to plead his case. That's it.

Yeah about 10 games according to Danny boys reading of the rules there.

Been awhile since they had a chance and good time for the league to make a point to all the players that's a big NO, NO.

hey of we could get Conolly to suit up for a shift and had him tackle an official and he got the 20 game suspension does that give us 20 game salary relief  , just thinking of some creative way to make some cap for another FO specialist ;)

The verdict is in. Five games for the artist formerly known as Captain Crunch:

NEW YORK -- Columbus Blue Jackets forward Michael Peca's suspension without pay will last for five regular-season games for having violated Rule 41, Physical Abuse of Officials, in NHL Game 15 against the Dallas Stars on October 10. The suspension was finalized after a hearing on appeal and a review of the incident by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

--------------

"Michael Peca crossed the line by making physical contact with referee Kimmerly. His conduct -- regardless of the type or nature of precipitating events -- was inexcusable and showed a lack of respect for our on-ice officials, and for the game itself," Commissioner Bettman said. "The National Hockey League remains committed to ensuring that officials are not subjected to any physical contact or abuse by NHL players."

Mr. Peca has already served two games of the suspension. He will be eligible to return on Friday, October 24, for Columbus' game against the New York Rangers. Based on the annual average value of his contract and under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Peca will forfeit $35,349.46. The withheld salary is contributed to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Oh come on. Simply say that you can't accept any physical contact with the referees because it's too slippery a slope to risk. Saying that Peca, after getting hosed (allegedly) on a game-ending play, grabbing the arm of an official skating away so that he can argue his point in any way shows a lack of respect for the officials or the game is just silly.
