  1. the who now?
  2. It's a fair concern. However, I think that the repeated sub-concussive whacks that (American) football delivers to its players are of a different (and more harmful) variety than the headers that are seen in soccer. Soccer players have been heading the crap out of the ball for centuries (and much less so now as they learn the game (coaching guidelines prohibit teaching the technique until the kids are older (U12, maybe))). And even as life expectancy grew in the 19th and 20th centuries, we never heard about how former professional soccer players were, as a group, suffering from a disproportionate number of cognitive impairments or injuries as they aged. I think this is mostly an issue for football.
  3. This is a real risk nowadays. There are SO many -- it's easier to encounter bad ones.
  4. Like I said, there’s a reason the style became so popular.
  5. I think football is uniquely imperiled by this sort of research. Contact sports in general, not really.
  6. One of the funniest things I ever read on the 'webs. I found that piece the day after I was handed a Gose during a pub crawl. That was the closest I've ever come to doing a spit take.
  7. Not Gose. those beers.
  8. I don't think d4rk is trashing anyone for what they drink -- he's ventilating about IPAs being a sh1t style that's overrated and over-produced. Of course, he's dead effing wrong on most of what he's saying. There's a REASON the IPA has become so popular. It's a frickin' delicious style, with a lot of variations available and provided. It probably is right that it's over-produced -- in fact, I know it's right. I really prefer to get a flagship brown ale. CBW's Whale is my go-to.
  9. I think that's right. Maybe a 4 or 5 game stretch where they took points.
  10. I saw a news blurb about how the Sabres are looking for their first 2-game win streak since October. :death:
  11. Holy sh1t - you session the Heady Topper, and you will be effing bombed. The concept of "session", as others have noted, just refers to a drinkable beer that's probably in/around the 4% ABV range. Guinness is one of the great sessions. Those amber lagers (?) I had in those huge ass mugs in Austria were sessionable af.
  12. Okposo ~ chicken finger sub?
  13. ^ Agreed. Cripes. The term of that deal already looks brutal. I am encouraged to hear (and see) that he's rounding back into form.
  14. white bread? ketchup? that's a sandwich that would play on my team any day.
  15. I hear you. I hear you. And I agree on the hot weather/IPA mix. If I'm day drinking at the park, or the beach, or whatever, I'll often get loose with a citra'd imperial IPA of some sort, and then switch to a macro for maintenance (Miller Lite is my go-to). As for the corn - that's interesting on how they're going to introduce it.
  16. I mean this with respect: If you can't get down with a good regional can of fizzy corn water (or 3 or 4) when the situation warrants, you may be guilty of sniffing your own farts, as they say. I do wonder how CBW is going to introduce the cereal grain into their brewing of Iroquois. From what I understand, craft brew set-ups aren't generally equipped to process those grains.
  17. Excellent. Well put. Ha. Obviously, we gotta give love to Bobby Orr. (I mean, right?) Also, in the earliest days of cable, we got a local Boston channel here in WNY -- was it WSBK? I watched a *lot* of Bruins games (with those terrific homer announcers) as a result. So, I have some love for Middleton, Cashman, and Kasper. Terrific players, all.
  18. I didn’t mean to imply greatest show on turf. Just that he’s a mid/late career guy who might suddenly be good enough to start. For sure on the other point.
  19. Glad for that. I wasn’t sure if we’d taken this in an unintended direction. BLTs, Reubens — those are sandwiches qua sandwiches.
  20. @Eleven: Were subs contemplated as within the original scope here?
  21. He looks a bit more like, say, Kurt Warner of late.
  22. That’s all well and good. I lived out in the Pac NW in the early days — Red Hook, Full Sail. I effing love craft styles. And I also love Rolling Rock and PBR. And Genny. And, sheeyit, Miller Lite.
  23. C’mon. Iron City. Rainier. Lionshead. Old Style. Natty Boh. I love me some regional macros.
  24. There is that - a brewpub venture. On 7th Street in Buffalo, they’re building a big ass brewery. Not far from their original site. It was Buffalo’s Genesee in its day.
