I'm familiar with hyperbole. It's appropriate in some situations. I'm not sure it played here when you're just characterizing some posts about Power's vibe. There were several wedding pictures that I saw - the one above was not among them. They were all in a church and were very, well, as I said, trad(itional). As for my inquiry being "stupid," to each their own. There's no need to be unkind, imo. Having been married in religious settings at 24 and 22 years of age (I think) and leading what I infer are religiously-based lives, Thompson and Power are unusual among their generational cohort generally and, I think, even more unusual among their pro hockey peers. Like I said above: I'm not sure what to make of that. If anything! By way of further context: I'm a religious person. I attend services every weekend (mostly). I'm active in my faith community. If any of my kids in their early 20s were regular church-goers and got married to someone I thought was good for them, I'd be delighted. To varying degrees, that hasn't quite happened yet. Edit: I'm religious as in: I'm a heavily post Vatican II Cafeteria Catholic. I definitely vibed with my share of guitar masses. And the Jesuits -- who skew pretty liberal -- are my preferred religious order of priests.

I don’t mean to cause offence, although I probably should have anticipated that I might. I’m just calling it like I perceive it: Power and Thompson seem somewhat unusual relative to their peers — or at least relative to how I’ve generally perceived pro hockey players. Sociologically speaking, anyway. I haven’t. I’ll keep an eye out for it.

It's an accumulated sense of things. That wedding picture is consistent with it, I suppose. Moreover, getting married nowadays when you're 22 years old is part of it. Dude just comes off super trad. As does Thompson. And like I said: I'm not sure what to make of it. Does it inhibit team bonding? If I'm being cynical and sh1tty about it (haha - which means I'm about to be): It's almost giving Mormon vibes. Then again, Brigham Young fields some competitive ass football teams.

I saw something on Twitter yesterday to the effect that the team's confirmed through unnamed sources that the red helmet isn't returning this season -- that the alternate helmet will be a white helmet with the charging buffalo that's decal'd in that ... multi-tone grey/silver (??) that you see in so much sports merchandise nowadays. I don't give a hoot if the red helmet comes back. But, for the sake of the many Bills fans who want it, I hope they do bring it back at some point. Maybe with the new stadium?

Like I said, this is something that a GM of a fringe major junior hockey team knows. "You can teach a guy to dial it back, but it's much harder to teach a guy to dial it up." I've been hearing variations of that for decades.

It had absolutely had the feel of -- "Jarmo, can you repeat what you just said [to the three guys nearest him] so we can get it for the video the social media team is putting out?" Also, the phrasing has a nice flair to it and Jarmo's a respected figure -- but that quote is the most basic personnel wisdom you'll ever come across.

Halak's retirement does prompt me to have some (renewed) hope for Levi in the NHL. Physically, they're almost carbon copies of each other. And I don't think there's any doubt that Levi is more athletic than Halak ever was. It just becomes a question of whether Levi can become as clever and skilled as Halak was.

As to the “pretty solid” assertion: I’ll agree to the extent that, if Krebs is a fixture on your team’s 3rd line, then your team is most likely an ~82 point squad. Dude’s mid. I pine for the days of players like Roy and Vanek carrying the third line.

As a recovering Krebs supporter: I think people like him more than his game warrants because he looks the part. I mean he really looks the part. Dude presents as an Albertan fu*ked up hockey nose version of a Hollywood leading man. But he is demonstrably a replacement level (or worse) NHL’er. Time to abandon the man crushes.
