  1. as arbitrary as this sort of thing is (or maybe not, if you have data, i guess), i feel like consistently average NHL goaltending would have yielded this team a bit more than 12 points - maybe closer to 20?
  2. I feel like you misspelled "played with energy and largely dominated the run of play."
  3. Inspiring. The outcome was a bummer, but that team was *flying*, and I loved watching them. What a game 37 had.
  4. Ha - what? It is widely accepted that he is a grade 1 pr1ck and arsehole. Just the other day (in response to someone likening Tuch to Drury), I resurrected my standard cracks about him shutting off Brian Campbell’s boom box in the locker room, dragging players into the weight room after a loss, and mandating super bland pre-game meals. The guy is probably an all time best seller at the jerk store. But for those 2005-2007 Sabres, his leadership was instrumental in building a Cup calibre team. There’s more than one way to skin a cat.
  5. Holy spit - that is incredible. When I looked at his hockeydb, his stats were curious. He absolutely tore it up in years 1 and 2, got shipped to EDM in the Gretzky deal, tore it up there for a year … and then soon thereafter got shipped to DET (maybe too hard to be in EDM as part of that trade?) … and things started to fade. He even wound his way back to LA at one point for a while. Fascinating.
  6. I mean, LOOK at this mofo. is he about to sell me some homeowners insurance? or be the 1st US player to score 50+50 in a season?
  7. If I needed more proof that my hockey fandom was sort of spotty in the late 80s, here it is. I can barely recall who this dude is/was.
  8. As to the first question: Yes. As to the second question: No. And I would not be concerned about the tail wagging the dog in terms of stadium and field design and layout. This is primarily a(n American) football stadium. Absolutely. And, as others have posited, there can be a roll-away feature for the first several rows, if needed. Hockey arenas (including the Sabres' KeyBank) have this design element to accommodate concerts when they come into town. I think this is all exactly right.
  9. He did - and I hope that's the solution. I don't think that's a risk. IMO, making international soccer part of the facility's available uses is an excellent development.
  10. Nine wins in March. Let's effing go, Buffalo. Musky Wails. And to anyone suggesting that a 'Peg* win would be more tolerable because of the effect on Las Vegas's playoff chances, I say: GET BEHIND ME, SATAN. We done been there, taking solace from or (*gag*) even cheering for a Sabres' loss. Never again. Never more! *hat tip to @inkman for the tune
  11. Don’t start nothing won’t be nothing.
  12. I know those bordering areas quite well - really well, in fact (it's actually a surprisingly small shared border!). Are houses somewhere in there really going for $100K? That would shock me. Upvote that town, if only for the quality of their local taquerias.
  13. Worth a watch - RJ's audio doesn't come in until about midway through the footage (for me, anyway).
  14. The local paper has a write-up about how last night's game was the 4th (?) biggest comeback in franchise history. And the piece clarified that the comeback I had in mind was in 1983, at home against the Bruins. That was a 7-6 victory after trailing by five. Mal Davis with the winner!
  15. I just listened to that presser. I should listen to all of them, really. His outlook on hockey - and on life, I infer - is just so good. I mean - that one Cozens' goal? Hilariously ugly. Push the play. Get it to the net!* *I do note that, in contrast to the low-risk shots that a guy like Evander Kane would push (and push and push) from non-threatening areas of the ice, that Cozens' shot, while apparently harmless (a mild wrister), was taken from a high-danger area ... and he had to do the work to get there.
  16. Watching the highlights: What a hound’s breakfast the Sabres’ goals were.
  17. Thought I remembered this one independently - but I am pretty sure I am thinking of a huge comeback against the Bruins in the mid-80s - the Bowman years. Also, this result is *so* encouraging.
  18. Glad to hear they’re bringing back “Rick” Bates — I credit him for helping solidify the o-line in the latter part of the season.
  19. Hochul’s announcement today included a statement that the Pegulas would bear the risk of cost overruns — a term that she characterized as significant, IIRC.
  20. the future experience of live sports spectating is unknown, probably unknowable -- but it almost certainly is going to be weird by current standards.
  21. And live-betting lounges. Tons of live-betting lounges.
  22. The stadiums appear to be the "essentially the same" insofar as they are intended to serve the function of hosting NFL football games and perhaps some other major stadium tours. The details on design are limited so far, but it seems clear that the 2 facilities will not be the same in any meaningful ways. The new stadium will be substantially covered by roofing elements that will protect most fans from rain. The field will be grass. The footprint will be an additional 600K sf larger (?) than the existing stadium. There's a party deck for GA that brings capacity to closer to 70K. This is also a settled trend in modern stadiums -- fewer seats, higher margins on the seats (suites, etc.) that you sell.
