  1. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Eastern/Atlantic/Buffalo.html

...the "What If" table at the bottom is somewhat interesting. Basically, if Buffalo plays about .500 hockey the rest of the way out, there is still a greater probability they finish first in the CHL than second. I could see them at best winning maybe another 20 games or so, which would put them clearly in first. We're quickly approaching the point were we can actually start cheering for them to lose.

  2. Eichel who just turned 18 is playing against mostly 20-23 year olds. McDavid is playing against 17-20 year olds.

As a true freshman, Eichel is leading the entire country in scoring at almost 2 points a game.

What Eichel is doing is just as impressive as the numbers McDavid is putting up against teenagers.

  3.

I think it's really strange what's going on down there. I haven't been paying them much attention, but they seem like one of those rare teams to go from basement to playoffs in 1 season.

their problem is defense. Giving up bad goals and soft goaltending. Varlamov was incredible last season, singlehandedly keeping them in games. They'll get better.

  4.

Mhm. But Leino did similarly terrible things. Turned it over in open ice on multiple occasions. He wasn't in a position where his defensive mistakes are as apparent, but his mistakes all over the ice were just as bad if not worse.

Leino was a waste but Mezaros as a defenseman is often the oppositions best forward. He's on pace to finish -70.

  5. Mike Weber is a terrible NHL defenseman. He will not be in the NHL next year, guaranteed. I like him tho, he's a straight up guy, works hard, etc... but the NHL is just too fast for him. He late on his reads, late picking up sticks and getting in passing lanes. God bless him, but he's not NHL caliber. HE WAS A -29 last year people!

  6. So much pessimism here. If they finish DFL, they have the best chance of getting McDavid than any other team in the league. Or they finish 2nd from last and they could still win the lottery, or even 3rd or 4th last and still get McDavid. Also, Eichel or McDavid are not gonna turn this franchise around on their own... it's more about the supporting cast. For all we know Reinhart might have a better career than both of them. Bottom line is the Sabres are bad and they will be bad for a few more seasons no matter who they draft. What's important is they draft wisely and develop them the right way.

The collective "woe is me" attitude of "just because we're Buffalo" is an embarrassment to the city and those of us who grew up there.

  7. Losses tonight by Winnipeg, Carolina, Florida.

Looking at Buffalo, I don't think they need the help however.

Indeed. Buffalo is in full control of their destiny.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the locker room after games or when Nolan and Murray have their daily chat. What can you possibly say to a team that is simply out classed no matter how hard they play? and what does Nolan and Murray talk about?

This is history in the making folks. Buffalo is on pace to score <90 goals this season. That's 40 goals less than the all time record! Their top scorer might get 40 points. On pace to be shutout 35 times breaking the record of 16 by 19 games.

  8. Juniors is perfect for an 18-19 year old. The AHL is for grown men, if they start adding these undersized kids to the AHL, you're going to see the number of injuries go up. It's a very physical league played by strong men, not kids. Once the kid starts to get some man strength at 20-21, they yeah, send him to the AHL.

  9. was looking at Carolina's schedule..... They've played their previous 5 games on the road. 6 of their first 8 games have been on the road. They finish the season with 15 games in March, 11 of them at home.... could see them plummet down the CHL standings late in the year. To compare, BUF will play 13 games in March only 4 of those at home.

  10. Skinner has been back, Eric Staal has played one game. Looking at their analytics they are bound to have more losses.

And St. Louis Blues Forwards David Backes and TJ Oshie have both been diagnosed with concussions, possibly placing them in competition for the CHL Championship.

With Staal back in the lineup they outshot VAN 30-25 a couple nights ago, but still won.

Their shots for/against pct ranks 18th in the NHL... http://stats.hockeya...CT&sortdir=DESC

CAR is primed to rack up some loses here as Buffalo runs away with the CHL.
