  1. Stupid Oilers. Having said that, a very good night overall except for their win. We just need to take care of business tomorrow against Colorado.

They close out the month vs. COL, then @BOS, @DET, vs NYI, @ OTT, vs. TBL. Hoping for at least 8 out 12 possible points seems reasonable.

EDM has DAL and ARI at home, then @CGY, LA, CGY. Possible they only pickup 4 points during that stretch. Could see BUF get within 6 points by the end of the year.

  2. DeJeanerret is not even a player.... there should be a non-player contest with coaches, GMs, front officers, Ted Darling, Jim Lorentz, The Earl of Bud, etc...

As a player LaFontaine was one of the top 3 most beloved athletes in history of the franchise. That fact that he's no longer on the list and RJ is, determined this contest is a sham.

  3. They've battled back twice so far.

Grigorekno really benefits from having Varone on his wing.

McCabe throws with Paradis who tries to injure McPherson with a knee.

What's wrong with the Amerks? They sound just like the Sabres.

"The Amerks as a team have scored only 11 goals in the past eight games (one win, seven losses)..... Heading into Friday’s 7:30 p.m. game at Hamilton, just one team in the 30-team AHL has a worse points-earned percentage than Rochester."

  4. I actually don't make too much of Hodgson's benching yesterday. As a coach, you want to hold someone on that shift responsible for the short-handed goal.

The guy that really got caught flat-footed was Ristolainen at point, but Nolan didn't have the bench to sit him. Easy call........bench Hodgson. Everyone gets the message. Tough break Hodgy.....you're in a place were the coach can make a message out of you.

Hodgson tried to dangle through Frolik just inside the blue line and gave the puck away. That's a no-no. The only thing I'll say in Hodgson's defense is that he looked to be skating as hard as he could to catch Frolik after he turned it over.... which just ain't gonna happen. Hodgson doesn't have great speed, while Frolik is one of the faster skaters in the league.

I would've liked to Ristolainen step up and take the body inside the blue-line, instead he backs off and tries to play the puck. He'll learn. Hodgson... well, he's a give-away machine at this point and I don't see that going away.

  5. What is the point of trading him now? Who do you get in return? If I am GMTM, I am happy my team is playing well, but I am not deviating much from my original plan. You are still developing players for the future and seeing what you have in your system. At some point you can trade away prospects for veterans, but I am not sacraficing my potential future based upon a successful 13 game sample size. Unless it is a prospect for prospect trade (which is super unlikely since he is a C and these trades rarely happen) he is not going anywhere.

Apparently Grigorenko will be skating between Stafford and Deslauriers.

TM might not specifically be shopping Grigorenko. There could be a larger deal in the works and some other GM asked to see Grigorenko play some NHL minutes while they're out in Western Canada. Doesn't mean a trade is imminent, this type of thing happens all the time in the NHL.

  6. Showcase for a trade. He's going to Edmonton.

Agreed. Some GM probably wants to see him at the NHL level and Murray feels a trade is likely enough that he called him up.

That said, I expect him to get a regular shift with some top players and power play time.

  7. That's fantastic news! There's no way an interim coach is going to take it laying down. Should put some wind in the Sabres sails, but I think at this moment Darcy is making a Dr Evil laugh down in Mexico.

They promoted their AHL affiliate HC, Todd Nelson, however the GM MacTavish will be behind the bench for a few weeks to help "transition" Todd Nelson into the role. Strange if you ask me... stinks like a rusty old tank.

  8. Sabres have played 30 games. 18 home and 12 away. For the most part they have been pretty injury free. I can't see them maintaining this pace. Road losses will mount and by March 1 we will be right in the thick of it. Edmonton, Carolina, and Arizona will still be there. The others will pull away.

The WORST we pick is 4.

Disagree about Carolina. I expect Edmonton and Arizona to be there at the end (along w/ Buffalo) but Carolina will be well out of the basement. They have the 10th best CorsiFor% in the league, and have just been incredibly unlucky through the first third of the season (3-12 or so in one goal games). Cam Ward is heating up and they'll be getting Jordan Staal back next month. They could make a run for a playoff spot.

  9. I'm 100% pro-tank.

Buffalo is now 9-6 in 1 goal games. All but 2 of all their wins have been by 1 goal.

EDM is 4-12 in 1 goal games, and CAR is 3-12. A bounce here, a bounce there, and Buffalo is atop the CHL. Things will even out as we move along.

That said, I expect a 3-way fight between BUF, EDM, and ARI for the Shart. Both EDM and ARI have more talent and better Corsi%'s but they struggle to score goals. The difference right now is goaltending. If their GM's decide to go all in on the tank, then BUF could be in trouble.

  10. Does anyone really expect Enorth to maintain his .936 SV% (at even strength) for the entire season? Hasek's career SV% is .922.

Anybody watch the end of the Cane's game last night vs TB? They lost 2-1 with TB "scoring" the winning goal in the final 30s. Both TB's goals were handed to them by the hockey gods.... first on a dump in that took a bad hop off the glass, the second an own goal off the d-man's skate.

They outshot TB 30-27 and have now lost 7 of their last 10 games by 1 goal.... amazing. Their CorsiFor% is 10th best in the league. With the way Ward played last night, I expect them to go on a run here soon.

  11. Aren't we going to need a starting goalie that can win games when the rest of the team is ready to make a run? How do we know Enroth is not that guy? Is Neuvirth? I don't know but I certainly don't want to add another hole to this roster that they have to find next year anyway......

Good point. If Enroth can play like he has over the past month for the next 6-7 years, then you have to keep him.... he's putting up Hasek like numbers.... but can he sustain that level of play? As a Sabres fan, I would like to think that, but is it realistic? Watching him play, it just seems like a lot of pucks are just hitting him, perhaps that's a product of being in good position, or luck, or a little of both. I remember in one of the recent games, there were something like 4 or 5 shots that rang off the post/bar against him. Don't get me wrong, he's in the zone right now, but I certainly don't expect him to continue he recent level of play... and I don't think he's the long term solution in net.

  12. Is resigning Enroth now worth the risk of drafting 5th to 8th in June compared to 1st or 2nd? Or do you trade him and let him and his agent know the Sabres would be very interested in resigning him July1st?

Enroth is playing out of his mind, eventually he'll cool off and things will get back to normal. However, if I'm Murray, I'm all over the phones trying to move him (he's a pending UFA) while his stock is high. It looks like an obvious tank move, but in reality he's stated that he likes bigger goalies and he's an UFA at the end of the season, so it makes sense to move him in his contract year while he's hot.

  13. The frustrating thing is Buffalo is playing worse than EDM and CAR, yet those two teams keep finding ways to win... If you look at the stats, Buffalo is far and away the worst (best CHL) team in the league.

    http://www.puckalyti.../teamstats.html

CAR has the 6th best Corsi% in the entire league, EDM 16th. Both teams are, on average, outshooting their opponents. BUF is dead last, 8 percentage points worse than the next worse team. Getting outshot almost 2-1 on a nightly basis.

In games decided by 1 goal, BUF is 8-6, CAR is 3-11, and EDM is 3-10.

Jhonas Enroth is single handedly driving the tank off the road. His stock is as high as it will every be and he's a pending UFA. He needs to go sooner than later.
