They have two totally different philosophies. Yzerman is much more willing to go out and bring in random bodies to fill out the lineup and pepper them with internal guys they've drafted/developed. Adams seems much more intent on building his roster from within, building chemistry and developing a "culture." It'll likely take another couple of years to see which approach is best. Me personally, I much prefer Adams' approach. I will say this: if the Wings are scrapping to snag a playoff spot in March/April given all the money they've spent the past two summers, there should be real questions about the "Yzerplan." Last summer we heard how much he improved the roster with all those "smart" signings, and after a solid start, they ended up stinking again. Nothing he's done today has wowed me, either. Seems like just throwing money at a problem without regard for fit/team chemistry.

There's no reason to hit the doomsday button yet. The FA market was always going to be a feeding frenzy. If you thought KA was going to get into a bidding war for the few established goalies on the market, you haven't been paying attention. The season is still over 100 days away. Once the dust settles on FA, there is plenty of time, and we have plenty of desirable ammo for a trade. If we're approaching camp with no new bodies, then complain...I'll probably join ya.

Yep. After FA last year, everyone was tripping all over themselves to polish Stevie's wand and it went bust. I think he does draft well. I don't think he necessarily does a very good job of roster building.
-
Yes, injuries are the other issue with him. Another reason to pass. Even when healthy, he was pretty up and down in Columbus. If he could have been had on a 2 year deal, maybe I'd jump on board, but at 5x4, I'm okay with him going to Ottawa. I don't think he necessarily makes them much better than Talbot.

Clifton makes us immediately better. Looking at some of the contracts handed out, I'm okay with KA not getting too aggressive. We still have more prospect capital than almost anyone. Plenty of ammo to upgrade through trades.

Korpisalo is wildly inconsistent. He was not someone I ever wanted here, personally.

Most overrated executive in sports.

7 years for Engvall? Geeze, turn some GMs loose in a weak FA market and...

It makes no sense. Hellebuyck is going to command way too much AAV when you still have a lot of young talent, that you're building around, that is going to need to be taken care of. They clearly have all the confidence in the world in Devon Levi, and he showed why at the end of the year. It just doesn't make sense given the way they're approaching this rebuild. If we were staring down a future with UPL in net, I'd agree with going after Hellebuyck. Maybe. Levi is different.
-
You wish we'd tied up $6.25M over the next 4 years into a decent middle-6 forward who will be 34 when the season starts? Why?
-
Hellebuyck is a pipe dream. 1) He's a UFA after this year 2) He's going to command way to much AAV and Term when all we need is a guy to take some work from Levi as he developes. 3) it flies totally in the face of everything KA has been doing.

This is why I'm not so keen on doing a lot in FA. You get into bidding wars and end up doing dumb ***** like that. Build mostly through the draft and trades.

Dammit. Dammit. Dammit.

In his first official move, Babcock just benched Adam Fantilli and called him "Nancy."

Shouldn't Florida be trying to get better?

Update Jack Quinn has started skating again

VO needs to go. He's fine when he goes on a heater, but he's a dead roster spot when he inevitably disappears for two months. If he ain't scoring goals, he's as useless as ice skates on a basketball court. -
Nicolas Hague would be a nice addition.
-
Absolutely. Not saying I want Bear at all. I'd be very happy with him signing here. Not gonna wow anybody, but does all the little things, particularly the ones we have serious deficiencies in, well. That's the kind of signing that helps a team that's very close break through.

He's slightly above JAG level when healthy. Might not be a bad bottom pairing option for cheap, but I think he's expected to be out until January. He'd be an upgrade over guys like Bryson/Clague/Pilut.

I don't get the consternation with not trading the pick today. We have a plethora of prospects that can be bargaining chips in a trade. Trading the pick tonight, or moving a couple of prospects and/or VO in the next week or two are the same thing. If anything, to me, keeping the pick and grabbing what looks like might be a major steal at 13 was the smart move.

Never been a better hockey name, though.
