  1. I don't think talent is the issue. We've seen what some of these guys are capable of. They lack hockey sense/IQ in my opinion. I'm not sure the roster is well constructed. And they've played without any real concept of accountability for years. Can Lindy fix that? I don't know
  2. Yeah, they were decent in the third, but it was a very low bar. Not feeling very optimistic if they trot Markstrom out again. NJ went out and got an elite goalie because theirs sucked. That's what real hockey teams do.
  3. Well that was disappointing. Not unexpected, but disappointing nonetheless. On to the next one.
  4. Malenstyn has thrown 6 hits already. Nice to have one of those guys.
  5. They're gonna get shut out on opening day, aren't they? Peak Sabres.
  6. It absolutely is Pegula. Pegula should not be making any decisions that directly impact the team like hiring a GM. There needs to be a buffer. He needs to hire a President of Hockey Operations (and a good one) to make those calls. He should be 100% hands off. I understand the irony that he would choose the guy that makes those decisions, but what can I say?
  7. Any chance NJ doesn't play Markstrom tomorrow?
  8. Exactly this. I understand taking the "build from within" approach. FA's aren't pounding on the door to play for a franchise that is a total punchline at this point. But with 13 seasons without the playoffs, patience isn't a luxury they have. We are at the point where the dividends need to be paid. I wasn't remotely sold on bringing a retirement-age Lindy back, but I figured give him a chance. I'm not going to write them off after one game, but they do not have a lot of runway this season. We need to see results and if we don't, Adams needs to go, Ruff needs to go, a few pieces of this core need to go, and Pegula needs to get serious about a fast turnaround by bringing in a good hockey mind with experience to oversee reshaping the organization in a way that can win post haste. The longer you're adrift, the harder it is to get the fans back.
  9. L. Hughes and Pesce not being out there and us still being unable to score is making me feel plenty surly.
  10. Looks close, doesn't it? Yet it feels like we've been totally dominated. Realistically, any of us expecting an immediate change in culture/results were bound to be disappointed. Patience is probably needed, but justifiably, that's on short supply. 3rd period these guys need to come out with their hair on fire and actually show some signs of life. Come home 0-2 and it will be the same dead, disinterested 5000 people at KBC. They built a little bit of excitement bringing Lindy back (I wasn't overwhelmed with the move), but if we don't see actual progress, nobody's gonna give a frog's fat ass.
  11. 0/3 on the PP. What's old is new again.
  12. Again, NJ is without 2 of their best defensemen, and these guys still cannot score so far.
  13. We're winning faceoffs 18-10. That's...um...something, I guess? Macro-progress!!!
  14. This really should be a make or break season for Adams. This is the 5th year of his tenure. The roster is constructed in his image. They've barely missed the playoffs the last two years. There are no more excuses. No more talking about a "vision." By year five, the team is as far as you can take it. Playoffs or GTFOH and this isn't a promising start.
