Owen Power blowing his knee out in the prospects challenge and missing the Sabres season would go over REALLY WELL. I think JJ and Quinn not playing tells that the Sabres think they will be on the team this season.

Looks like a lot of talent up front, dicey on the backend and scary in net. They will have to run and gun to be successful. It will be great to get our fist looks at Savoie and Kisakov.

I agree. One person I hope the Sabres keep and eventually move up is Peca. He is a guy that gets it and seems to have a good rapport with the young kids coming into the organization. I have a feeling that in a few years when this team starts doing damage that Peca will be behind the Sabres bench in some capacity.

You will like him. Plays a Rhett Warrener type of game. He is exactly the type of dman this group needed. He won’t be sexy like the other dman but he will be solid.

The improvement Allen has made from his rookie year is simply astounding. My biggest takeaway is how good he is with the deep ball now. That was a big issue early on for him, part accuracy part receivers most likely. And wow Jordan Phillips looks like he could be just as impactful a pickup as Von. I hated to see him go and love that he is back. The spin move sack was tremendous for the big man.

What a surprise that the 6th round pick Benford won the starting CB job. That is great news for the Bills depth. I saw one analyst after the game say the Billls have to cut out these self inflicted wounds because tonight should have been about 60-0. If they can clean that up and stay healthy it should be a hell of a ride this season.

If they can send pasta and chicken wings over to Sweden to bulk him up I think the Sabres have a really intriguing player on their hands. Lekkermaki has the sniper’s shot but I think Östlund brings a much more complete game and being a natural centre is a big bonus too. I think he has the highest upside of the Ohgren Östlund Lekkermaki line.

No I didn’t mean you should have read it before I just meant that we noticed it too when it was announced and were trying to wrap our heads around it. I am curious to see the type of players that make up their squad.

We talked about this a bit before. The Pens have not drafted well or had the picks to draft well in a long time. They might not be able to form a prospects team. Their team might be made up of a lot of free agents that they want to bring in for a game to see what they look like. It is all I can think of.

People love the Savoie pick. People love the Kulich pick. Östlund gets somewhat overlooked but I think in a couple years he might be a hell of a player. At the U18s Ohgren Östlund And Lekkermaki were dynamite for Sweden Sweden took Ohgren and Lekkermaki to the summer U20s but not Östlund. The two looked lost without their pivot. Laine and Pulj got all the love on that Finnish line but it was Aho that was the glue. Fingers crossed that we have found an Aho. Encouraged by the goal scoring in the pro games as he is known for his playmaking.

With the style he plays that contract will age like milk.

Everyone is agreeing their is risk in the deal. Your argument though seems to be that if he puts up 40 goals this season that they could sign him to the same deal next offseason. No way. With the cap going up and coming off of 2 seasons of 38 and 40 goals you would be looking at 8x $10 type of numbers. That is a big difference and hence why you take that risk now.

At some point you have to start investing in your players and locking up your young core. If you keep putting everyone off then you never know what your salary structure will be. Dahlin will probably be the next big chip.

If he puts up 40+ goals this season you don’t think the contract would change? That is delusional.

We have a core building block. Now imagine 2 years ago telling this board that the Sabres would be signing Tage to a 7 year $50 million deal and that most people would give it a thumbs up.😛

I know some think Tage was a one year wonder but that shot and release doesn’t disappear. He will be a top player for a while here. I would like to see him locked up. You have to build a core foundation and he wants to be here and puts in the work to get better each season.

I love that they are working in harmony. Analytics is great when used hand in hand with old school scouting. Checks and Balances both ways. Time will tell but I think the past couple drafts have produced a very promising group of prospects that hopefully develop.
