If he's ever going to be our goalie, this needs to be the moment where he claims the job.
Agreed. They should absolutely start him against the Leafs

This is an obvious example of why advanced stats can't always be relied upon. Anyone who watches the game can tell that defense is the problem. Granted, goaltending could be better but it's not the main issue. I like the UPL callup. He should be hungry and maybe even a bit ticked off that they brought in Comrie
Playing fast and loose and "not afraid to make mistakes" is exciting but not if all you do is make mistakes. I hope Granato is leaning into defensive awareness heavily over the past couple days. Practices should be tougher than they've ever dealt with, that starts with coaching. Practice makes perfect. Practice defense until no one scores a goal on you until no odd man rushes happen.
Now go kick the shyt out of the leafs and start up a WINNING streak

He thought he was gonna light someone up, and he did, right on top of Comrie.
Maybe he did it on purpose because he thinks Comrie stinks

Vanek may have been 6’2 200 lbs but no one was ever intimidated by him.
Didn't matter. We didn't need that from him. He was a pure goal scorer

I like it. Thought he played decently for us when called upon considering the circumstances.
Cool nickname too

TBWe can beat all of them
We always have Torontos number, they'll probably be taking us lighter than they usually do. Beat Toronto, in their house, and set the stage mentally to continue the streak. All it takes is one win to start up again

Ruff had long worn out his welcome but his team's were at the very least competitive all those years, never bottom of the barrel type. I wouldn't anoint him yet, though.
He failed with Dallas while Seguin and Benn were still very much in their primes. All it takes is one losing streak for the wheels to fall off. It's still very early in the season and most teams are still figuring it all out, even the veteran so called good teams from years past.
Losing 7 games in a row stinks, heck even losing 3 in a row stinks, but all it would take is a 5 game winning streak and bang the Sabres are 12-10. We'd all feel great about that, and it is possible.
Start changing your November ways now and win the remaining games in November. Then we'll have a chance again

7 game win streak incoming

Tim Murray could at least make this crap exciting

Because its always the same even though the names change
Hire a cheap Coach/GM with little to no experience in the position and let them play the slow development game to build a 'Dynasty'......
The last coach with a nhl head coaching resume was Bylsma, and he built his off a team that was carried on the backs of Crosby, Malkin and a bunch of other big stars.
Oddly enough Bylsma got us the best record over the past 12 years

Those black Senator jerseys are nice if they weren't a div rival I'd get one or two

Did not seem like a full 60 minute effort. That's 3 times in only 16 games and twice in 4 games. Both are unacceptable.
And can understand to large degree Granato's not railing on guys for mistakes. But would be perfectly fine with him ripping them new one's for lack of effort. And, he really needs to start bringing that on occassion. Honestly, him throwing a tantrum and bag skating them for good cause (or making them all hit the bikes before hopping on their charter last night - a bag skate is a bad idea on the morning of a btb) likely would get a better reaction than a Tortorella doing the same. Everybody expects Torts to go psycho every so often. But the nice science teacher losing his #### could get a reaction.
I can agree with this. As long as he doesn't do it all the time because then the players will start to ignore it or resent him
I think the best thing about Granato is that he keeps his cool and generally understands his players and the lack of experience. He seems to have a deeper knowledge than past coaches and I can always appreciate how articulate he is
Someone like Tortorella would fry this team and it wouldn't work. Tortorella does have a great track record and I agree he is a good coach but those antics don't work on every player and I'm not surprised it doesn't
This losing streak sucks hard but I do feel Granato is a smart coach who will figure it out and I do still think the Sabres will turn around. 39 wins was my prediction before the season started I'm sticking with it

Probably the guy who breaks his hand on said piece of plastic.
That's not gonna happen. Maybe if the visor was made out of brick

I think players don’t want to throw haymakers and hit a helmet visor with a bare hand.
It's a piece of plastic who cares

Sabres win 7-5
Tkachuk decides mid game he wants to be traded for Jacob Bryson and the rest of his cherry pop tarts
-
Good post. The Sabres do lack a certain physicality/take no shyt approach. Couple that with defensive responsibility, and the wins will pile up. Provided the offense stays the course.
Trade for a power forward please

You're reading that wrong. Lack of effort is unacceptable in Philly under Torts.
I never feel that that is the case here in Buffalo.
They DEFINITELY lack effort on many occasions and at some point of most games.
I see.
I'm not so sure it's a lack of effort rather than not being taught proper defense. It seriously feels like none of them were taught how to play defense, they just stand around in our zone, not sure what to do.
You can give a full effort but still be terrible at something

He can't fix Philly's lack of talent, but lack of effort is unacceptable there and I never feel that with Buffalo. It's always just learning and they never learn.
imo they are learning to lose AGAIN. The leadership is lacking, the effort is lacking, and thus the results are also lacking.
So which is it? The Sabres lack effort, or they don't?

I am told that DG had them playing a freewheeling and open style to “help development “ of their skills.
It is time to instill a system to help keep goals out of our net. The team is better than what we are seeing.
Agreed.
To be clear I'm not saying Granato should be fired, I meant an assistant coach who excels at defensive philosophies. Because whatever they're doing now is beyond subpar

I dont understand why it's impossible for them to play solid defense and throw some checks.
How many Quinns, Peterkas, Mittlestatds do you need? They all do the same exact thing. They're all finesse guys.
There's not enough ice time for all these guys that do the same thing. Stop drafting 5'10 guys with no physicality or defensive awareness
Thompson broke out because they FINALLY gave him the ice time REQUIRED to break out. Why do they keep drafting the same exact type of players?
I'd call the Senators RIGHT NOW and say you can have any of these guys for your best physical D man and Brady Tkachuk:
Olofsson
Mittlestadt
Peterka
Quinn
Krebs
And you can have our 1st round pick next year too because we would pick CASEY MITTLESTADT again anyway

On either the 4th or 5th goal while killing a penalty, Bryson and Pilut allowed a player to skate in home free from the blueline and score. These guys should barely be on the ice, let alone on the PK. They both suck.
You almost got the score correct. Good call.
Agreed on Pilut and Bryson big time. Pilut needs to go back Sweden and become a car detailer this hockey thing ain't working for him. Bryson should be traded for a pop tart they're equally soft

They have been emphasising not being afraid to make mistakes. They also have been emphasising pushing the game up ice. They do not seem to emphasise defencive structure.
Why even have defenseman? Just have a team of forwards. Who cares about the Goalie he will save everything.
Whoever is in charge of defense should canned immediately
