  1. Are you arguing that they were worse than Dunleavy and Ray?
  2. Go to WCMF. WGR play app has a bug.
  3. I think he's referring to the style of hockey the Leafs play.
  4. The same way that Al Smith "saluted" the Knoxes and Imlach when he was passed over for Don Edwards?
  5. If memory serves, that is the original uniform of the team which became the Toronto Maple Leafs.
  6. Welcome to the board.
  7. As we get close to the draft, could we have a break down of the players' strengths and weaknesses? How sound are they in the defencive zone? How are they at clearing the crease? How good are their zone exits? How well do they read an oncoming rush? When they jump into a rush, how risky is that manoeuver?
  8. I hope you still have your red stapler.
  9. If anything, we all underestimate our myopia on this topic.
  10. There are assets we could move -- for instance, how many young LHD do we have? What I want is an Alex Tuch at RHD. I will pay a premium for that kind of player. I could stand getting a couple of Bill Hajt types on defence.
  11. To be fair, the reputation of Buffalo fans around the league is very positive. We may or may not be the best, but I would bet, for an American city, we'd be way up there.
  12. NOTE: through one of my former students, I met Tim Murray when his father was coach of the Baltimore Skipjacks and his late uncle was coach of the Washington Capitals. I used to go to weekend practises when either team was at home. The Murrays would explain the drills they ran and why. I learnt a LOT from that family. Is anything positive said about the Sabres or negative against anti-Sabres takes propaganda? I personally take all the stories from around the league with a pinch of salt unless I have independent corroborating evidence. Here are some pieces I have. I know two people who had witnessed the influence of Kane and Bogosian from the start. During that time, I had heard about Brian Gionta's and Ryan O'Reilly's frustration at cliques in the team. That was why I hated the ROR trade and the lack of movement from XGMJB during the slide after the 10 game winning streak. So I already knew about what has come out recently. It is not propaganda. It might have some hyperbole if what I was told was representative of people's behaviour at the time. My evaluation is that Gionta and ROR wanted the youth to focus on the boring things that work on the ice while Kane and Bogosian were focused on the fun off-ice. Which do you think two teenage jocks would choose?
  13. I am very afraid of an escalation of weapons.
  14. For those who are wondering about how shaky Las Vegas's hold on a playoff spot is, here are the Western Conference standings with all teams either in the playoffs or within range of the playoffs. "Within range of the playoffs" is defined to be "the largest point deficit ever made up with 20 games left since ties were outlawed" (Buffalo Sabres 2010-1 -- 6 points). Colorado (C1): 59 -- 41-13-5 -- 87 Calgary (P1): 57 -- 35-15-7 -- 77 St. Louis (C2): 57 -- 33-17-7 -- 73 Los Angeles (P2): 59 -- 32-19-8 -- 72 Minnesota (C3): 56 -- 34-19-3 -- 71 Nashville (C4, WC1): 57 -- 33-20-4 -- 70 Las Vegas (P3): 59 -- 32-23-4 -- 68 Dallas (C5, WC2): 56 -- 32-21-3 -- 67 Edmonton (P4): 58 -- 31-23-4 -- 66 Vancouver (P5): 58 -- 29-23-6 -- 64 Anaheim (P6): 60 -- 27-24-9 -- 63 Winnipeg (C6): 58 -- 26-22-10 -- 62
  15. I understand that he's bitter about Jack basically saying, "I think you all stink" when he requested the trade, but I don't think much of getting on someone with a potential life-altering injury.
  16. This reinforces what I think Robin Lehner asked about why some of his younger teammates were not listening to Gionta. Gionta was a definite contributor to a Cup winner, yet he was not being followed. It looks like he was clearly pointing the finger at Reinhart and Eichel -- and probably Bogosian and Kane. As I look back at this dreadful decade, I wonder if I underrate how bad the Winnipeg trade was for us.
  17. These guys need to learn where the line is for "revealing too much." Even implying that is, IMHO, going too far
  18. I am saying that the vacant captaincy was just one in a colossal list of organisational gaffes. Murray gets trying to lose for 2 seasons, hiring Bylsma, not getting Eichel an NHL-quality defence, bringing in Kane and Bogosian, and overpaying in every trade for acquisition. Bylsma gets his handling of the team, the system he played, and not naming O'Reilly captain either. Botterill and Housley get what you said -- and Botterill also gets failing to ice an NHL-quality bottom 6, mind-numbing inertia when the team had positive vibes, trading O'Reilly, and hiring Ralph Krueger. The Pegulas get it for hiring all these guys. If you are arguing that trading O'Reilly and not making him Captain instead was where the relationship was irreparably harmed, then I will agree with you.
  19. As a partial defence, I ran into Jack a few times outside. One time, he was visiting kids in the hospital when my niece and nephew were there. He seemed to care about their plights and was glad that he could help brighten their lives. He might be like that about hockey, but outside of hockey, he seemed really nice.
  20. Thank you for this comparison. IMHO, this is the proper perspective on his time here.
  21. Bolded: that's my attitude. I don't have the time and energy to waste on booing for other reasons. YMMV.
  22. You forgot Murray, Bylsma, and Pegula. A distal cause is the belief that the biggest talent on the team is automatically captain material.
  23. This reminded me: I remember games decades ago where their names were in Cyrillic on their jerseys. Is this a reflection of the ubiquity of English and the other languages which use our alphabet?
  24. Isn't it 3 weeks too early for an April Fool's joke on your fanbase?
