  1. Top three answers on the board. Here’s the question ...

How has this team completely reverted back to the worst team in the NHL again???

    1. Housley

    2. System

    3. No in season trades to stop the decline in December/January. JB’s fault.

IF Housley was better, IF his system was effective, IF JB did 2 or 3 in season trades in December/January, this team would be 20 points better. Minimum.

And next year, as Tage’s Body continues it’s growth from boy strength to man strength I’m sure we will hear all about it was his time in Rochester they made such a difference.

There are a lot of reasons that the league is getting younger, part of it being that teams are starting to realize that the AHL isn’t as important as they thought. Maybe I’ll spend time seeing how much minor league time the NHL’s top 100 scorers put in.

Re: top 100 scorers in the past decade....

Only if you take out all top 10 draft picks since most top 10 draft picks are talented enough to go top 10, and therefore see little if any junior or AHL time.

As you know, that really wouldn’t make your point of players not needing the AHL and it not being a developmental league, if you selected someone like Crosby or Malkin and said “SEE ZOMG! They didn’t need AHL TIME!” ???

Why in the world would he sign here?  He'll get $$ and term anywhere.  Why not try  to win too?

Kim has no business acumen of any kind, and why should she?

Good thing she's running the show now.

    LOL

No matter what reason I give, you’ll disagree with because your mind is made up.

I’m not saying he definitely will or definitely will not sign with the Sabres BTW.

i just commented about what Skinner (or any player) says in media scrums after losses as an indicator as to his intentions after the season ends.

I’m not saying you’re doing this ... but Ive always found fans who try so hard to read between the lines, read into things, make more out of something that isn’t there, and create agendas based on nothing concrete, eat up anything negative and are usually overly dramatic. Yawn...

If AV comes here, does he try to bring Lindy Ruff in as an assistant?  AV brought him to the Rangers a few years ago. I can see Pegula loving the AV hire if he can get Lindy to come back. In Pegulas mind that will be instant excitement for Sabres fans and great PR.

Good PR would be the worst reason to bring Ruff back.

But with Pegulas mind ... who knows what “wise” thing he decides.

Kid's got an elite shot.  Would have liked to see on the big club sooner.

I understand that mindset. I do.

The reason why he’s hasn’t looked lost is because he’s been developing nicely in Roch. gaining confidence. If he has a nice post season and looks great in training camp, he’ll make the team. If not, he goes back to Roch to work on his game some more.

hopefully Tage gets some serious development time in Roch. too.

We’re in!!!! Amerks win 6-4 and out shoot Bing 47-20 to clinch a playoff spot. It’s unfortunate that Wedgewood only saved 16 shots but Taylor stuck with him and they won. Tage with another goal and our old pal Nathan Paetsch got the empty netter. There is still a very good chance at reclaiming first place before the season ends.

    Very nice!

Wedgewood needs to get his head on straight. Or they are not long for the playoffs.

I know,  the likelihood of us getting that 80 point player right away is slim along with our chances of getting good soon.

As to the bolded, I could not disagree with you more.

Plenty of Developing young players ... it’s true.

Plenty of (potentially) great developing young players ... never typed that.

    agree to disagree

I'll say this about this season.  If not for this board, I may have found a better use of my time that watching every game.  But mystery loves company and there are a lot of real funny f**kers that post here.  I'll be here, watching the boys play, through thick and thin.

    And misery ...

I think the point your making is also the same reason some of us are worried.  15 mil will need to be spent on 2 players (assuming Skinner gets around 9) - I don't think you get 3.  We are a lot more than 2-3 players away from being good.  I think it's more like 8-9, if I'm being optimistic and if some unknowns work out.

We need this years draft pick to be an 80 point player - then we'll have a chance.

And that 18 year old most likely will need more than a year or two to reach that level of production. Just because a player gets picked top 10 doesn’t automatically mean he comes in to an NHL team and starts pouring in goals.

We have more than enough developing young players.

If you want established developed players, be prepared to get rid of all draft picks, most prospects, and a few roster players you’ll hate to lose.

It must be a perfect mix of developing young players, developed younger players, solid vets, solid goaltending, and a very good coach and system.

i know everyone wants to be good now, right now, but that’s just not gonna happen.

Im not saying JB has been perfect, but he has, since being the GM turned this roster over a lot in both off seasons. His major fault is not dealing in season. Not his only fault.

Amerks in Binghamton tonight. Devils up 3-1 at the end of the first.

    Amerks 21 sog

    Bing 9 sog

Wedgewood let in 3 on 9 shots. It’s like he suddenly got the yips. I’m very worried about this guy in the playoffs.

Are the defense leaving him out to dry? Is he getting any support?

The Sabres tried that approach with Tage Thompson this season when he should have been in Rochand it failed both the player and the team.

No! Tage did benefit from being in the NHL all season. Financially.

Tage needed the AHL like Nylander needed it. And Nylander needs, yes needs to experience the playoffs in the AHL now. He’ll be better for it next season. Same with Olofsson, Pulit, and Thompson.

Even If some want to cross their arms and refuse to believe it.

    Not really.

I stand corrected. I was trying you give you more credit. I thought you knew 18, 19, 20, 21 year old kids are very far away from being a developed product.

Thompson, Mitts, Eichel, Reinhart, Dahlin, Rodriguez, even Pilut are far from being a finished product.

  13. Shedding Pominville, Bogo and Moulsons contract along with Berglands would be a franchise changing move. To have over 15 mil to go out and grab 2 or 3 significant vet pieces to inject great leadership would be an incredible thing this team so desperately needs.

True but I would do them except maybe Tavares

So, it’s really not a “the moon” type payment at all

a team paying “the moon” for Eichel would have to really really hurt.

something more than even swap material would be something like Eichel and Hutton for Mark Scheifele,  Hellebuyck, 2020 1st round pick not top 10 protected, and their top D prospect.

that ... is “the moon”. It’s basically something Jets would never do.
