If they cant win this game, theres no reason why Housley should keep his job, he has lost the team. (I'm not saying winning this game he should keep his job, but losing it should all but put the last nail in the coffin)

I think they end up winning, possibly something like 5-2 and they act like they just did something big/special. The fans are just as pissed as if they were blown out because now they are costing themselves a slightly better draft pick/chance to win the lottery......

Um ... this game is not the “well Housley should be fired if he doesn’t win” game.

about 3 months ago, it became the “wtf is he doing night in night out? He needs to go”. His in game adjustments are baffling. Most of his line construction is troubling. Who he sits on any given night is obtuse. And the inability to get the team to come out strong and a pain in the a$$ to play against every period is sophomoric .

    nothing has changed ...

He will keep his job until the bitter end this season. There is no benefit to firing him now. But no matter how they look, win or lose.... I predict he’ll be gone before the playoffs begin.

  2. TONIGHT’S GAME
    SABRES at DEVILS

    • This is the third and final meeting between the Sabres and Devils this season.
    • Last meeting: New Jersey defeated Buffalo 4-1 in New Jersey on Feb. 17
    • The Sabres are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games vs. the Devils; 3-4-3 on the road.
    • This is the 157th game all-time between Buffalo and New Jersey; Buffalo has a 76-54-26 series record.
    • The Sabres are 35-27-15 on the road against the Devils all-time.

    THIS DATE IN SABRES HISTORY

    • The Sabres are 8-8-3 all-time on March 25.
    • March 25, 1992: Donald Audette scores twice in 14 seconds as the Sabres improve to 30-16-2 against the Maple Leafs at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium. The team would finish with a 32-16-3 record against Toronto at the Aud.

    THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

    • With a win tonight, the Sabres would clinch their first season-series win over the Devils (2-1-0) since Buffalo went 2-0-1 against New Jersey in 2013-14.
    • Jack Eichel has totaled five points (3+2) in four career visits to New Jersey.
    • Jeff Skinner has recorded six points (4+2) in his last seven meetings with New Jersey, including three points (1+2) in his last three.
    • Brandon Montour has recorded three points (2+1) in his last three games against the Devils.
    • Rasmus Ristolainen has totaled four points (1+3) in his last five games against New Jersey.
    • Conor Sheary has recorded a point in six of his last eight games against the Devils (2+4).
    • Zach Bogosian has tallied an assist in both of Buffalo’s previous matchups with New Jersey this season.
    • Alexander Nylander (2+2) and Rasmus Dahlin (0+3) each enter tonight’s game on three-game point streaks.

  3. Loading the Sabres team with multiple rookies is a great idea.

What could possibly go wrong? haha

Fans tend to forget these kids are playing against AHL talent not NHL.

Asplund definitely needs another full season in Roch. He can come up when injuries hit and play a handful of games. He needs more development for sure.

Olofsson i’d take the risk (if he looks amazing in camp) and give him some preseason and a handful of regular season games to see how he responds. If he looks lost or below average, send him back to Roch with the idea of calling him up often for injuries.

It will be interesting to see if JB starts Tage in Roch next season or not.

Well if you owned a company and were paying millions of dollars for the person most responsible for the quality of your product, wouldn't you want input into the hiring process?

Yes. If I knew about the industry, company, sport, product very very well.

If I knew about fracking and the oil industry very well. But when It came to hockey I was only a fan and not very (sports) business saavy, I would hire people who really really know the sports business well. I would solely rely on their expertise, wisdom, and experience to run my business well. And if they didn’t, I would replace them with people who do/can.

I wouldn’t tell a doctor what instrument to operate with just because I own a medical facility. I would rely on the doctors knowledge to successfully complete operations. I wouldn’t tell my GM who to hire if I didn’t know what it takes to be a successful head coach.

Just my opinion on the Pegulas getting involved in hiring coaches.

That's just not how companies work. Any high profile, high paying position is going to be scrutinized and signed off by upper management or in this case ownership. I'd love for the Pegulas to distance themselves from the process but it likely won't happen. And the second they did that, the fans would be up in arms yelling why they aren't hearing more from the owners.

That’s just not how all companies or in this case, sports franchises work. Some? Sure. Never said a generalizing word like none (or all)  to begin with.

    Agree to disagree...

Our next three games are vs. NJ, OTT & DET, the bottomest of the bottom feeders. I'm curious to see how poorly we perform against them.

We were gifted such an easy end of the schedule, these games could have been shooting fish in a barrel to help propel us into the post-season if the team didn't collapse so hard.

I've never liked Phil, but after being convinced Disco Dan was the problem and that a coaching change would help push us over the edge. When things started going south under Phil I was hesitant to say "it's all on the coach" as we'd just been threw that, but man, he comes off as such a turd. Maybe it's that we hired the wrong guy, twice.

I think (in part) it’s also a case of the owner(s) making coach hiring decisions instead of leaving it entirely up to GM’s.

I love the Pegulas, but they need to stay the F away from coach hiring decisions.

They are too involved on that aspect.

This is bonkers.  He just got up to the NHL and is crushing it, so you want an "upgrade" from that?  Wait, no, you want to see him with 40 NHL games under his belt?  That makes sense.  Woah, what now?  You mean his performance the last few games isn't worth the praise and earning him some more NHL time?  I'm so confused.

Are you reading words I didn’t type?

    Shame shame...

Maybe that’s the source of your confusion.

  8. A FRESH START

    • Through his first 11 games with the Sabres, Brandon Montour has recorded six points (2+4), trailing only Conor Sheary (4+3) for most points during that stretch. Five of his six points as a Sabre (2+3) have come at even strength.
    • According to NaturalStatTrick.com, Montour’s CF%, FF% and SCF% during 5-on-5 play through 11 games with the Sabres top his full-season rates in each of those categories from both of his first two NHL seasons, as well as his rates through 62 games with Anaheim this season.
    • In these 11 games, Montour has also seen a drastic uptick in scoring rates in goals (.60), assists (.30) and points (1.21) per 60 minutes played at 5-on-5 compared to his rates from the last two seasons.

    DAH-LEAN ON ME

    • Entering play Friday, Rasmus Dahlin led rookie defensemen and ranked third among all NHL rookies in points (39). His 31 assists ranked second among all rookies.
    • With 39 points (8+31) through 73 games, Dahlin is scoring at a higher rate than he did in the Swedish Hockey League last season, when he totaled 20 points (7+13) in 41 games for Frölunda.
    • With his assist on Wednesday vs. Toronto, Dahlin passed Bobby Orr (38 points in 1966-67) for the second-most points ever recorded by an NHL defenseman before his 19th birthday, trailing only Phil Housley (57 points in 1982-83).
    • With seven multi-point games so far this season, Dahlin has recorded more multi-point games as an 18-year-old than all but two defensemen in NHL history: Housley(13) and Orr (8).
    • Dahlin’s three game-winning goals this season are the most ever recorded by a Sabres rookie defenseman. His total also ties for ninth-most by any Sabres rookie and eighth-most in a season by any defenseman in franchise history.

    JACK ATTACK

    • Jack Eichel has totaled 73 points this season, setting a new career-high mark and also tying his previous high with 25 goals. He has joined Rick Martin and Thomas Vanek as the third player in franchise history to record at least 20 goals in each of his first four NHL seasons.
    • With 48 assists so far this season, Eichel is the first Sabres player to record at least 45 assists in a season since Tim Connolly recorded 48 in 2009-10. The last Sabre to record at least 50 assists was Jason Pominville (53) in 2007-08.

    THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

    • Carter Hutton has appeared in seven career games against Montreal, posting a 4-0-2 record with a .935 save percentage and a 1.69 goals-against average.
    • Conor Sheary has recorded a point in each of his last four games against the Canadiens (2+2).
    • Casey Mittelstadt has posted a point in each of his first three career meetings with Montreal (1+2).

    • Jack Eichel has recorded two assists in each of his last two games against Montreal.

    SEASON SERIES

    • The Sabres have won all three of their previous matchups with the Canadiens this season and are seeking their first four-game winning streak against Montreal since they won six straight from Jan. 18, 2011 to Jan. 31, 2012.
    • Each of Buffalo’s wins against Montreal this season came after trailing in the third period, including two overtime wins.
    • A win tonight would give the Sabres their second-ever season sweep against the Canadiens, and their first since 1983-84 (8-0-0).
    • Buffalo also went undefeated against Montreal in the 1974-75 (4-0-1), 1994-95 (2-0-2) and 1996-97 (3-0-2) season series.

    MAKE IT 30

    • If he scores a goal tonight, Jack Eichel will have scored against each of Buffalo’s 30 opponents.
    • By doing so, Eichel would become the second-youngest player (22 years, 146 days) ever to score against 30 different NHL teams, trailing only Aleksander Barkov, who did so at 22 years, 139 days with his goal against the Vegas Golden Knights on Jan. 19, 2018.
    • Artemi Panarin (247 games) is the only player who has scored against 30 NHL opponents in fewer games than Eichel’s278 if he scores tonight.
