When the Sabres arrive at Bell Centre for their game on Saturday night, they'll be met by a Montreal Canadiens team that is fighting to keep its grip on the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.

It took two periods for the Sabres to adjust to the speed and intensity of their opponent in a similar situation on Wednesday, when they met a desperate Toronto Maple Leafs team that was motivated by a string of four losses in five games. The result was a 4-2 loss in a game in which Carter Hutton made 42 saves.

"They came out with a strong start," Conor Sheary said. "We expected it, I just don't think we were ready. I think coming into tomorrow night, we should have a good start and hopefully come out with a win."

The Sabres are still looking to establish consistency over these last nine games of the season, which includes matchups with potential playoff teams in Montreal, Nashville and Columbus.

Sheary grew accustomed to playing for the playoffs during his first three NHL seasons in Pittsburgh, which included back-to-back Stanley Cup championships. That said, he reaffirmed his belief in the Sabres' core group after practice at Harborcenter on Friday.

"I think we know we have a good core group of guys in there," he said. "As far as the end of the season, we want to make sure we're building, we're striding in the right direction and building toward the future.

"I think we're a team that's going to be around for a while, not just make a splash. This is a big learning process for us and hopefully we can build off of that."

What is the county’s cut? It’s not only the state with their hands in your pockets.

As for the landlording? Got out of it as soon as I could. They stop paying you(sometimes after years of paying faithfully)and it’s a real bitch to get rid of them.

I mis spoke ... yea it’s a combo of county and state. Vampires.

i have a good friend who owns several properties so we are getting great advice from him regarding protecting ourselves from bad renters and legally iron clad lease agreements.

    Of course nothing is foolproof....

  3. The wife and I just bought our first investment property.

Well, the truth is, the offer was accepted and now we are in the long drawn out process of closing. Its a mix of nervousness and excitement to open this landlord chapter of our lives.

In Cheektowaga. Two units. Upper/lower. Over 1,000 sq. ft.in each. Only thing that sucks is the taxes. My god it’s obscene. NY state govt. just doesn’t get it. Or doesn’t care to.

    Anyone an experienced landlord?

The only Sabres Thing he ever nailed was Darcy getting fired, about a month before it happened

Which wasn’t a groundbreaking prediction  lol.

Everyone, including Darcy saw it coming well before it happened.

Coming out of camp, there was considerable debate on this forum about whether Nylander or Tage was more ready for the NHL.  Based on camp many felt that Nylander would get the nod and were surprised that it was Tage, and even more surprised that Tage was a healthy scratch for the first quarter of the season or so.

As far as development goes, when I see Nylander playing, I see just another NHLer.  When I see Tage I see a baby giraffe who, after almost a full NHL season, struggles to make the right play or properly interact with linemates.

To me, Nylander looks to be closer to NHL-ready than Tage.

Maybe you’re right ... but your assessment would be a lot more convincing if Nylander had 30-40 games under his belt and looked as good as he has in the last 3 games.

I’ll personally take a wait n see approach before doning him NHL ready or better than Tage or other rookies. My prediction is, I think he’ll settle (develop) into a perimeter player who isn’t physical, takes shifts off, drives fans nuts, opportunistic sniper who snags 45-55 points a season.

I’m intrigued and want to see more. Or trade him after the Amerks post season in hopes his value goes up from a solid post season in Roch.

Next season is his coming out party for good or bad. The “bust” factor is looming just as much as the “developing nicely” factor is right now at this moment in time. I hope hope hope he takes another step this summer and training camp. It would be sweet.

  6. I’m not talking about record. I’m talking about personnel.

If you want 2016-2017 Lehner and Nilsson over 2018-2019 Hutton and Ullmark ... that right there is worth a laugh.

If you want 2016-2017 Gorges and Franson over 2018-2019 Montour and Dahlin ... that right there is worth a laugh.

If you want 2016-2017 Cal O’Reilly and Nic Deslauriers over 2018-2019 Mitts and Sheary ... that right there is worth a laugh.

If you want 2016-2017 kulikov and Babtiste over 2018-2019 Scandella and Rodriguez ... that right right there is worth a laugh.

If you want 2016-2017 Ennis over 2018-2019 Skinner ... that right there is worth a laugh.

i can go on, but it’s obvious to me the personnel itself have been upgraded from two years ago and even last year. It’s in a smaller part, a few holes still need to be upgraded. But by and large it’s the coaching staff. It’s just so bad ..

Harrington in his column today ripped Botteril for essentially forcing Housley to play Thompson and Sobotka.  Its time Bots took some blame for this disaster.  I would say it more on Botteril than Housley, after all it was Botteril who hired Housley

You still read Harrington? You find his articles worth your time?

    May I ask why?

We’re all in agreement he’s going to “test the market” at least, right?

I’m not in agreement on that.

i think JB gets it done before he hits free agency. And it will be for an inflated bloated long term contract the majority hates. North of 8 mil/per.

  9. People can complain about the talent all they want ... I’m just not buying that talent is the main major reason why this team is mostly free falling for months now. I’m firmly (for about 4 months now) of the belief that it’s the coaching STAFF (not just Housley) and the system they want to play. It’s not aggressive. It’s not attacking like Winnipeg or SJ.

Of course there are upgrades to a few spots that need to be addressed, but it’s not the primary reason this team overall have looked uninterested, out chanced, out shot, out performed, and sometimes freakin embarrassed in games.

No effective counter punch and in game adjustments from Housley and staff. A flaccid PP. Poor decisions. Terrible motivation. Inconsistent as all hell.

But ok Housley, Blame it every time on “not buying into the system”. Ya pinhead.

Hmmm I’ve posted that exact video on other sites without issue.

See if you or anyone have any luck... it’s the Nike skate die maple leafs commercial. See if anyone can post it successfully and how..

  11. I am 50/50 on him.

On one hand, yes, him developing in Buffalo would be great! And hopefully a fine asset to a line.

On the other hand, I could see him finishing the season strong in Buffalo,  get sent to Roch. and help them win in the playoffs. With his value inflated, JB puts him in a package deal over the summer to help improve the team next season.

Either scenario works for me ... ?‍♂️

  12. First mistake is thinking TSN are level headed reasonable talking heads ...

it took me 1.5 seasons to get there ... but I want Housley gone. And I think he will be before the playoffs begin.

JB will likely have a minimum of one more full season as GM. And if the team looks better next season, he’ll get more than that.

  13. I personally never boo an ex player. I think it’s petty, and lame. I also never boo star players every freaking time they touch the puck. But to each his own ...

In the first minute or two of the game, the Sabres did acknowledge O’Reilly and welcomed him back to Buffalo and there was a warm reception of cheees and claps for him.
