This is true and something I do not get. He even says they need to play their game and be fearless. Let them adjust to us. The problem is we are not that good yet and we have boys versus men on some shifts. I am not saying that DG is a perfect tactical coach on game day. He isn't. I am saying it is on the team to come out in the 3rd period and play. There needs to be more internal leadership. If they need pep talks on game number 42 of the season then they will be out of the playoff running by game 52.

What makes you sure of that? We all sit here and say that they need goaltending, better bottom 3 defenders, better bottom 6 forwards, more grit, and more experience. If all of that is true then how are you sure Granato cannot take them further? Yes. Hate to lose. Players that hate to lose do the most they can to not lose.

Not happy with the start of the 3rd period or the finish of the periods either. I am big on not giving up this kinds of goals. I think today was all on the players but it is almost always the coach that gets the blame. The old adage is you can fire the coach easier than 20 players. The players on this team need to step up. They must assume accountability for their performance. We need more players that hate to lose, not better pep talks.

I can agree that DG needs to grow his game, coaches don't know it all, continuous learning is required. Granato will admit to that. He will end up reaching a peak with this team, just like every coach on every team before him. I can't buy into him sending them out flat. That is on the guys in the blue sweaters. Coaches pep talks are the legend of movies. Sure, a coach can inspire and motivate a team, but this is an 82 games season. They know who Florida is, they know what the standings say, they know they are playing a kids matinee and they need to win the fan base back. It is on the players in the locker room to be ready and accountable.

This is a big game, it a shame that they could not get a better effort. Seems like they cared about winning game this for awhile. Giving up a goal to start the period or end the period is no recipe for success. They should be aware of this but unfortunately they can't turn the corner and grasp these little things that matter.
